The lyric "All the flowers that you planted momma,in the backyard. All died when you went away" is essentially about her own mum
She cried in the last verse, her mother just died and it made her more emotional
You must hear her do this live, even better than the music video.
When she starts crying, I can not hold a dry eye myself, I just want to go and give her a hug
She said that when she went to the doctors and guess what he told me, he said girl you better have fun what ever you do, cus HE'S A FOOL! What a voice
Her son just committed suicide 3 weeks ago. She suffered a lot in her life. Church, show business, boycotted, being poor, having a horrible mother, Her song rejected by prince family to be used in a documentary because she accused prince of violence when she stayed over 1 night. Etc She is a Sufi Muslim now, hope she will find peace

This Irish angel suffered and she brings an ordinary song wrote my a legend, Prince was and still is a legend . And now she is . I belive Prince would have been proud today. We will never know , however , one thing I do know , if anyone voice can open the Heavens and pure natural beauty , its Sinead . She was right then and truth hurts on the topic she brought to light and shes a damn legend , beyond her time back then . We love you Sinead ❤❤❤❤👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤❤❤❤👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The lyrics tell the story clearly, "since you took your love away", " where did I go wrong," and "I know that living with me baby was sometimes hard, but I'm willing to give it another try." As far as her experience, I am not sure she had experienced anything like this, but an empathetic person can cry over even perceived pain.
she lost her mum when she was 18 yrs old and always said she thought of her mum when she sang this song ..she also had a breakup same year
Her first name is pronounced Shin-ade, it’s an Irish name and you should also react to her song “The Foggy Dew” about the Irish 1916 Easter Rising against the English which is famously Conor McGregor’s walkout music

Prince actually wrote this song!! She lost her son to suicide from depression, and she has been going through this a very long time with her depression!

Oh, Sinead, amazing voice, so unique. Check out Troy but do the one off the album The Lion and The Cobra, not the live versions. Great vid btw, as always!! 😘💕🕊
Her mother died a year before she made this song that's why she threw in that little sentence about her mom do you know her mom was abusive in every way she still had love for her mom and for you my brother you have a loving and compassionate soul thank you for your empathy and humanity God bless you 🙏😇
Prince wrote the song, probably about a woman, but when Sinead sang it, she was singing it about her mom who was abusive and had passed away... The conflicted feeling of loving and losing her mom, and going through that difficult childhood...

I mean she definitely pulled emotions from that but the lyrics are clearly about a lover.

"I can put my arms around every boy I see" is about her mother?!? Think you're way off!

@@pamelajohnson6199 she said herself that she sang it thinking of her mom. It's not my opinion, it's her saying it in an interview back then. She didn't write the song, so not all the lyrics would fit, but watch her when she sings "all the flowers that you planted, mama, in the back yard, all died when you went away"

@@Rosiepooh75 And I read those words were from Prince singing about his housekeeper or nanny. She did say she had an abusive mother but I find no record of her saying she was referring to her mother. It would be quite strange to sing about lost love and loss of mother in the same song. I'll find my references as I read extensively yesterday on the matter. Also found out Prince and Delores disliked each other intensely and came to blows at Paisley Park and he threw her out in the middle of the night.

@@pamelajohnson6199 again, never said she wrote a single lyric on this song. I said that she said in an interview that she was singing it with her own mom in mind, even though not all the lyrics apply. I also said look at her face in the video when she signs that part - you can see the emotion. I saw that interview in the 90s so no idea if it's available online or not And this is Sinead, not Delores...
The mom lyric was just in the song.... Prince wrote it.. She cried because her mom died in a crash before this song was sung by her.
Hey doc thanks for covering such a great and unique song and artist. She really is something else. She recently lost her son to suicide last month and then she tried to commit suicide herself about 10 days later. She's in a pretty dark space right now the same way she was in the song so she could definitely use us sending her some positive energy and some healing love.
While she is an exceptional writer in her own right, this song was written by Prince. As the story goes, the first time he heard her voice he was like, that’s the singer I wrote this song for. That’s the voice. Believe me, to have Prince approach someone to record one of his songs was a big freakin’ deal!
No other artist can bring a song like this one.
Its a lost love song. Sinead is a very passionate person and performer and has been through a lot. At the time this was released she was making a name for herself but was beginning to be controversial. She's much older now, as I am and really struggles with serious mental illness issues. It's very sad.

She wasn’t controversial. The Catholic Church was. The world owes her an apology. RIP Sinead. 🕊💔✊🏽

@77Creation omg! Indeed. I saw a post yesterday saying RIP I was shocked, hadn't heard anything about it. At the time, they hadn't released any info. I'm not sure if they have by now. And The Catholic Church is gross -ex-catholic

Man this was my jam in 9th grade after I got my heart broke by my first crush. You know how in high school and Junior high it seems like it's the end of the world even though we now know it was not. Lol
If i remember rightly, she was remembering her mom that died in a car crash.
Loving these reviews. Timeless classic.
I say Troy by Sinead O'Connor next ❤
the loss of your mother is life changing. trying to replace a mothers love. with the love of a partner is impossible.

Nothing compares to a mother’s love. Nothing. 💔
This is a Prince song. Prince wrote it. But her cover is hauntingly beautiful. When she recorded this her mother had recently passed. She said she was thinking of her mother to convey the emotion
this is one of the greatest heart break songs ever
You should check out Zhavia's version. Obviously Sinead O'connor is the OG when it comes to this song but Zhavia is a very close 2nd! Both versions give me the chills!
Okay educate elevate.. this is straight fire family 🔥🔥💪🍸😎
Flippen stunning
Prince wrote this son and it’s said to possibly be about his beloved house keeper leaving to take care of a family member. Sinead Killed it and felt it!
Please react to her Nlack Boys on Mopeds, Jackie, Fire on Babylon, Troy, Mandinka, Drink Before the war and My Special Child. She wrote a lot of beautiful songs that were rarely heard of. Also if you may, please check out on her more recent songs like Reason with Me, Take Me To Church and 4th & Vine
I don't know if she is a personal connection that was close to the story of the song... But the song was written by Prince a little known musician from Minneapolis Minnesota
I love this song 😁
Mandika by Sinead
She's crying for her momma. The mama she should have had, sadly her mother was a very abusive, cruel woman Sínéad deserved so much better.
That "Mama" has thrown off a few, but I believe it is less about her mother and more a Johnny Bravo "mama"!
Song written by Prince he does a version. Obviously he made a great choice with her haunting voice. She threw the verse in about her mom just died. Keep em coming. Peace

misinformation. These are the original lyrics as you hear them sung by Prince. Mama is an affectionate term for his lover.

It says on google it was for his housekeeper who left for her family.
Appreciate you reacting to this Doc!
Prince wrote. Sinéad took it to another level. Thanks for covering (or trying to ha)
No she wasn't talking about her mom. She was talking about the flowers in her mom's garden dying when her boyfriend left.
Shin aid Is how you prouncounce the name sinead is a common Irish name
Yeah apparently you and I Are one of the few people who see both tears most people only see a single tear so props to you for seeing it I don’t know what that means about us or other people but I just had to point that out.
her name is pronounced shanade, such a sad song about breaking up with someone, such a lovely voice, i used to play this all the time when i was younger and broke up with my first love
This song was written by Prince.
Please do her Troubles of the world video ❤❤❤👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I've always wondered about the part about her mother's flowers dying and withering away. Almost this her depression was so deep she neglected caring for them...
Thanks Doc, great reaction, I personally prefer when the video is NOT paused, it's great to hear your responce while it's actually playing however please never pause the song/dance while it's playing as it ruins the flow, so I detest when it's paused, thank you again, love from Ireland

She just lost her son to suicide. 😞
she lost her mom who had been abusive shortly berfore this song
The "mama" lyric may have to do with the fact that this is actually a Prince song. He may have used it as a term of affection for a woman, and Sinead simply chose not to alter it. I love her version, but you should also check out Chris Cornell for another powerful take on the song. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6mJprSOaZCugs4.html
I just recently heard that her son committed suicide and that was a terrible blow to her. I would imagine she was pregnant with him not too far around this time
Prince wrote it, Sinead made it huge, and Chris Cornell made it stunningly beautiful (RIP, Chris).
Great reaction🔥 please react to nasty c stalling🔥🔥🔥(recently dropped)
