Sadly, the drummer, Neil Peart, passed away in 2020. The band had announced they would no longer continue back in 2018, but the drummer’s death was the final straw to ensure they were finished. They were amazing! So much music from 3 guys! I saw them live multiple times and they were always amazing. RIP Neil.

The saddest part is that they decided to have one final tour after Neil’s cancer diagnosis so they could “go out” on their terms. It was more a precursor to Neil’s passing as opposed to being the final straw, which almost hurts more as a fan that was never able to see them live.
Just came across this reaction...you've just been introduced to one of the greatest bands, in history. While you are deciphering the lyrics and reveling in the music...remember, that there are only 3 band-members creating all of this wonderful 👏. Take a trip down the Rush rabbit-hole and you'll come across 40 years of incredible music. Do yourself a favor and continue with this album, Moving Pictures. It was their most successful album (commercially)...but not always considered their best album. Check them out...see what you think.

His book is amazing!
Rush is probably the greatest band of all time (as well as the most underrated). Geddy Lee is the lead singer and plays bass and keyboard (sometimes doing all three at the same time in concert!) Then you have Alex Lifeson on guitar, an amazing musician in his own right who is often overshadowed by the popularity of his other two bandmates, and as a result his skill on the guitar is very often overlooked and underrated in the rock community. Last but definitely not least is Neil Peart (pronounced like "ear") on drums and percussion. He was known as "The Professor" or "your favorite drummer's favorite drummer". We lost Neil back in January of 2020 after a quiet battle with brain cancer. RIP. Rush's work spans 4 decades from 1974 with the release of their first album to their final concert on August 1, 2015 in Los Angeles. Their sound has evolved over the years which makes them one of the most versatile and timeless bands ever. If you want to continue your Rush discovery experience, I highly suggest the following: Working Man (from their debut album. Listen to the studio version first, then the live version) Spirit of Radio Xanadu (from the Exit Stage Left concert) YYZ Live in Rio Neil Peart's drum solo live in Frankfurt Fly By Night La Villa Strangiato Subdivisions There are so many others, but this is a good starting point. Enjoy!
Geddy Lee is the piano man, the bassist, and lead vocalist. You're going to like Rush.

This is what happens when you put the greatest drummer of all time (who also wrote almost all their songs), a top-5 all-time rock bassist who also sings and plays the keyboards with his feet in concert, and a chronically underrated but extremely well-respected guitarist together. If you really want your mind blown, watch the video for YYZ live in Rio. It's three masters of their craft in front of an amazingly enthusiastic audience, creating music that would make you think there's eight or nine guys in the band.

Geddy Lee - the lead singer - is also Rush's monster bassist and the keyboardist; Alex Lifeson is the guitarist; and the drummer is Neil Peart (RIP), very likely your favorite drummer's favorite drummer. Neil also writes most of their lyrics.
It is criminal how long it too for the R&R Hall of Fame to induct these geniuses.

All that sound from 3 members. One of the top 5 drummers ever.

Rush had one of the best guitarist and drummers of all time, they were great
The Professors most difficult song to play according to him. He always claimed that he got better at playing it over time - lots of practice! He also said its the one song he never got tired of playing because of the challenge & he would be super thrilled when he nailed it.
@DeaconBlues117

According to the interviews with other musicians for their documentary, that was the challenge song for drummers. "So, you can play 'YYZ'? Now let's hear you do 'Tom Sawyer"."
"Oh, 'dey in - if y'all didn't know, by the way. 'Dey in." 😹
Took whole family to R40! So glad my kids (now 18 and 23) still consider Rush their favorite band! So glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's!
They were together right up until the drummer passed. Over 40 years check the three of them out doing this song at their induction to the rock and roll hall of fame.
Neil Peart on the sticks - LEGENDARY!
Geddy Lee vocals, bass and keyboards Alex Liefson guitar Neil Peart (RIP) drums and lyrics Neil joined the band in 1974 after the original drummer left, and they stayed together for 40+ years until Neil recently passed
What you're hearing is artistry, innovation, craftsmanship, commitment and sweat. Geddy Lee (vocals) is also bass and keyboard, often playing the bass with foot pedals; he juggles these live in concert, too. Alex Lifeson (guitar) is among the best to ever do it, and also plays multi-neck guitars. Neil Peart (drums) (RIP 2020) is the favorite drummer of some of the best rock drummers in the world. He also wrote most of the band's lyrics.
@DeaconBlues117

Apparently all of the lyrics after "2112". Neither Geddy nor Alex ever really enjoyed writing the lyrics, but Neil lived for his poetry, so they stuck him with the job (at which he excelled). (Also, Neil's tracks were the only ones from that album that really got radio play. 🙂)
Arguably the best drummer to ever live!! RIP Professor!!!
You caught that Gaddy Lee was on keys as well as lead vocal, I thout you'd then catch he's also on the bass guitar. Only 3 members. We lost the drummer Neil Peart a few years back to brain cancer. His drum solo Live in Frankfurt is absolutely phenominal...

Yes❗ That DRUM SOLO was crazy wonderful.
There's a reason I saw Rush 18 times. I recommend the song Natural Science from the Snakes and Arrows concert.
You just witnessed one of the best drummers who ever lived! RIP Neil Peart!! Rush is legendary!
As others have said, Geddy Lee sings and plays bass and keyboards and all three of them multitask like crazy. If you want to hear him singing really high with power but then also sometimes really sweet and tender, you've got to check out their breakout album from 1976, Rush 2112. Record company didn't think they were making stuff that enough people liked although they had quite the following, and this was their do-or-die effort or they were done. So they flipped the bird to the record company and took the whole first sight of that album and did this incredible epic composition and story and it showcases everything they could do at the time. I have definitely seen many people react to it even though it's long. It comes in six or seven Musical and thematic chapters of sorts some of which kind of refer back to the earlier stuff like a symphony almost, and those usually make good places to break, but you should always rewind because the transitions are just mind-blowing. But you will hear everything you need to know about why Rush was so fantastic if you check that out. And all the shorter radio playable songs on side B are fantastic as well. Something for nothing is the one that the end album with on side B and it's a total banger but with a really positive message.

Stereo and Quadraphonic sound has been around since the 60s but not everyone could master it like some others. BTW, the lead singer is also the keyboardist and bass player. The drummer (considered the GOAT in rock) is the lyricist. That stayed together and toured up until a few short years ago but no longer perform or record since the passing of Neil (drummer) in 2020.
The lead singer is Geddy Lee. He plays bass, keys, and synth pedals in addition to lead vocals. Drummer is Neil Peart, aka The Professor. In my humble opinion, the best drummer of all time. He passed in 2020. The guitar player is Alex Lifeson. Many times overshadowed by Geddy and Neil, he is a powerhouse guitar player. I recommend continuing down the Rush rabbit hole. 2112 The Trees The Garden Spirit.of Radio Time Stand Still Limelight Closer.to the Heart Red Barchetta Xanadu (live version) Fly by night Cygnus X-1 YYZ So many more. Just keep listening to their greatness

First time hearing Tom Sawyer is lifetime moment for me. I was working at an ice cream/burger joint across the street from our local rock radio station, and many nights we would personally deliver food after closing and the DJ would let us hang out in the booth with them. They received a promo copy of Moving Pictures about 2 weeks before it's release and were teasing all day that would be playing the first track from it sometime after 10PM. As was our tradition, we called them up, offered to bring some food in exchange for playing a request, which of course was the Rush song. DJ said we could be there when they all heard it for the first time also. So me and a friend were with 2 DJs and the PD the first time Tom Sawyer was aired, and the first time any of us had heard it. It's amazing to see people 40 years later blown away by the song as much as everyone in that booth was that night.
No, all of their music is not this (this is probably their biggest hit IMHO), but they have a pretty darn good catalogue. They were way ahead of their time, and I still have this vinyl. Peace, Love!!
I attended six Rush concerts back in the day. RIP Neil Peart!!! ✌🏻❤👍🏻

The lead singer is the keyboardist and bassist. They were a 3 piece band. Neil Peart on drums and songwriter, often referred to as "the professor" and "your favorite drummer's favorite drummer", Alex Lifeson on lead guitar, and Geddy Lee on vocals, keys, and bass. Neil passed away in 2020 and fittingly the band died with him. Check out "Spirit of Radio" next and keep exposing yourself to good music, the journey has been fun to watch.

I like to sit back at the beginning when you say "All I need is one hit" and knowing that what you are about to hear will be instantly in the hall of fame haha
Ha! Piano man= bass player= lead singer!! A talented guy !
Rush is an incredible band!
Each of them is considered one of the greatest musicians in the world for his own instrument. Very much RIP Neil Peart. I also grew up with Rush in high school, and Limelight is probably my favorite. Such fantastic writing.
The lead singer also plays the bass, keyboards and Moog foot pedals. Neil Peart is the drummer. He was their second drummer (John Rutsey was the drummer on their first album) and is a legend. He passed away in 2020. Let's not forget Alex Lifeson on guitar. The 3 of them were together for around 40 years and were the very definition of prog rock.
The singer is the piano and the bass player , his main instrument is Bass
We lost 2 of the proverbial rock legends the year Peart passed, later in the year October Eddie Van Halen passed from cancer as well.
What most people don't realize is that the base player who also sings is also playing all of the keyboards! Also when the singer is playing the keyboards the guitar player is playing the base notes on pedals at his feet while playing the guitar! And the drummer is amazing! The 3 man band
As a Rush fan, I like to call this The Rabbit Hole effect. You just don't realize just how far you're going to fall down listening to their music. If I may suggest some of their other hits: Spirit of the Radio - technical and playful, this song gives a glimpse into how one feels towards music versus joining the music business Xanadu - the live version demonstrates how they created intricate soundscapes with only three members YYZ - the live version from Rio is an amazing performance; this instrumental is another great example of their technical and creative prowess Subdivisions - thoughtful and a wonderful introduction to their 80s music The Garden - the last song from their last studio album; it is a beautiful send-off to their lyricist, drummer, and friend In truth, I could easily rattle off 30 more songs. But if you're looking to see where to go to next, these are my suggestions. P.S. Drum solos . . . if you're gonna dive in, you can't forget Neil's drum solos. Lol
Keep in mind boss RUSH is only 3 dudes

The singer is indeed the piano dude and also just about the most universally respected bass player of all time.
"Moving Pictures" came out in 1981... No other band even came close that year. Rest In Power, Professor😞
Awesome reaction. More Rush please.
Yep, that song dates back over 40 years ago. They actually date back to the late 1960's. Back when rock was rock, blues was blues, disco was pretty much fading when this released and progressive rock was coming of ages. Although I still like to think of it as sophisticated rock and roll. For them anyway, it wasn't as 'prog' as many others because there was no bubble gum pop with it, just flat out theme oriented smash mouth rock with amazing precision.
Lead singer is the Bassist, Keyboards and Bongos. Drummer is always considered top 5 of all times. Lead guitarist is a master as well. Drummer was the primary song writer. Band stopped touring when the drummer died a couple of years ago, mainly out of love and respect for Neil Peart.
The phenomenon that is Rush and their glorious wall of sound.
Keep listening to Rush!, they played for decades and are one of the best ROCK bands to ever play!
How did Geddy Lee get singing so high, same as Smokey Robinson and a host of other singers. Talent and the right vocal cords.
Tom Sawyer is one of those songs that gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Amazing talent!
