Honestly, every Queen song is a favorite Queen song at some point in your life. Queen had a way of writing and performing music that would stay relevent your whole life. Some songs or performances just hit differently at different points in your life. It's one of the reasons Queen fans are so long-lasting and loyal.

This song, this song, it ranks so high, for sure my top 5 Queen songs. Brian on the piano, Freddie walking over to start the song with him, Brian moving to the guitar, Freddie realizing his piano part is coming up, moving quickly to the piano and not missing a note and Freddie’s vocals here are outstanding along with the bands. It is a very special song. It always brings tears, every time. ❤️

Queen were so popular everywhere in the world, but not so much in the US back then. Not that much airtime given to them. Queen just didn't fit neatly into one little peg of "ROCK". They are actually amazing and their body of work is timeless. Freddie's voice is beyond beauty. Brian's guitar work is superb. Roger's drums are solid. John carries it with the bass. Still sounds fresh today.

Actually no one missed the cue there, except you amateur Queen fans did... 🙄 Brian was/is a beginner piano player, the part hes playing was rehearsed and memorized. HE CANT Improvise... and Freddie is teasing him by delaying the start. Brian turns to Freddie as to tell him... "thats all I can play" and Freddie knew...😁 Same thing happened multiple time while touring, including at Wembley when Brian is playin the rehearsed keyboard part for WWTLForever.

There are several Queen songs that when I heard them I thought Freddie must have written them because they have so much angst. I thought that came from all that Freddie had been through and he sang them with such emotion, but no, Brian wrote them. Brian went through a lot too. :-)

  • @lizj7028

This is what made Freddie so amazing. He sold the song like it was his own whether he wrote it or not. Brian revealed that in the band's beginnings, he and Roger were quite possessive of the songs they wrote and if they couldn't sing it themselves (despite having good voices; people wanted Freddie) then they wanted to dictate how it should be sung. However, as they toured more and preferred to deviate from studio version of songs, they became more in awe of what Freddie could do with his voice and "their" songs... and pretty much gave him free reign because of his magical voice... not just range but knowing just how to sing each word, each note. "Save Me" may not be as complicated as some of their other songs but this version is one of my all time favorites. So beautiful in it's simplicity. Also, showcases how cohesive the band was with the piano transition. Brian had to have his guitar strapped to him to quickly switch as Freddie hurried back over while singing! Always surprising/impressive that Freddie didn't write this song, nor did Brian write it about his own failed relationship, yet you believed they were singing/writing from their own heartache.

@@lizj7028 I had heard that although Roger and Brian wanted to sing their songs or call the shots at first they later preferred for Freddie to sing them. How could they not, Freddie was such a great singer in every way. I agree Roger and Brian did well with singing, but no one else is a Freddie Mercury. It must have been great for John to write a song and see how Freddie brought it to life and made it a hit. That makes me think of how Freddie felt to sing with Montserrat Caballé; it was so gratifying for him.

  • @3ScotsInk

@@lizj7028 It was also a brilliant way for Freddie & the band to make it difficult for at least part of their fan base to perceive Freddie as gay, singing as he did, so convincingly love (and sexy) songs about being with a woman. Because God knows, from day one, Freddie himself didn't really hide it at all. So much brilliance of all sorts in these 4 men-- it's otherworldly. That's why they are all legends.

If you listen to the studio/lyric version of You Take my Breath Away you may change your mind again. I love both versions. Live, it's Freddie and his piano managing an intimate performance in front of a huge audience. In the lyric version, Freddie has layered the harmonies like he did in the intro to Bohemian Rhapsody and it's like listening to a completely different song. If you haven't done March of the Black Queen yet, that will knock your socks off for several different reasons. I so much enjoy your understated reactions. Listen to the album The Game, Queen were at their absolute peak around 1980. This song was so close to the album version. Freddie's voice is so sharp.

As Freddie said this is off the Game album, which the video is from the Game tour, in last it was the last song on the album. I had the pleasure pf seeing them live in Madison Square Garden in September 1980. That album had a few hits on it, but for me this was my favorite tune.

Thanks, Rad! - as usual, others have beaten me to the coolest stuff - Brian wrote the song, and while he was playing keys, he had his guitar in his lap(!) so the transition was smoothest ever when he just "shows up" playing lead and Freddie just tosses the mic and sits down at the piano -- I love that! - look forward to more from you...

2:09 Brian was/is a beginner piano player, the part hes playing was rehearsed and memorized.

Not true about him dying a few days later. The Show Must Go On was recorded in 1990. Freddie passed at the end of 1991. But he was ill and his vocal on the song is incredible :)

The Show Must Go On" is a song by the British rock band Queen, featured as the twelfth and final track on their 1991 album Innuendo. It is credited to Queen, but written mainly by Brian May.[3] The song chronicles the effort of frontman Freddie Mercury continuing to perform despite approaching the end of his life, although his diagnosis with HIV/AIDS had not yet been made public in spite of ongoing media speculation claiming that he was seriously ill.[4] When the band recorded the song in 1990 Mercury's condition had deteriorated to the point that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. May recalls; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling'-vodka down-and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal" I had heard somewhere that he had passed shortly after recording the vocals so that information was incorrect but the part about him being extremely deteriorated from his illness was not. That's what makes this Song so brilliant and absolutely amazing and makes me cry to this day every time I hear it knowing it was one of Freddie's last songs he would ever sing. RIP Freddie 🙏
