FIRST TIME HEARING 'Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond' (PARTS I-V) | GENUINE REACTION

Ойын-сауық

Another great track from Pink Floyd. I honestly think this one may be my favourite so far. One thing we always know with Pink Floyd is that all of their music tells as story, even if it doesn't have that many words. Here's my first time hearing Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

I’m 50 and my father bought this album on its release as I was just a toddler. As soon as I was reliable enough to play it on my own, I played it over and over, and I must have heard it hundreds if not thousands of times, knowing it by heart, every note of every instrument, even every scratch on the LP. My father has passed since, decades ago. The original LP was lost or stolen at my mother‘s, but I’ve had digital versions of it. And still, each time I listen to it (maybe once a week, maybe more), goosebumps and tears.

David Gilmore doesn't just play guitar, he somehow manages to put his very heart and sould and lifes blood into his performance. This whole album was a tribute to their early bandmate Syd Barret who succombed to the pressures of stardom and drugs to become completely detached from reality. Strangly enough he showed up in studio while they were recording and none of his bandmates recognized him for a while until he started asking where his guitar was.

This song was written for Syd Barrett, one of original band members that they had to leave behind due to drug problems and mental problems. They never forgot him and this shows that. Not only were these guys musical geniuses but their lyrics are always pretty deep. Longtime PF fan here and glad to see you enjoy and grow in great music. Great review, always like seeing the faces of the younger generations when they hear this band and especially this masterpiece of a song! Looking forward to next review!

@@keiththompson8922I'm not sure it was this particular song, the way I heard it Syd came to the studio when they were recording and guys didn't recognize him at first, he was basically a shell of the man he used to be, his eyes were hollow as black holes which shocked them the most among other changes. They were shocked and wrote this song dedicated to him.

@@user-pm3wk6lw6mthat’s the story I heard on an interview with David Gilmour. “You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon Shine on you crazy diamond Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light Shine on you crazy diamond” …the lyrics pretty much summed up Syd’s state of mind when he left the band, and didn’t improve after he left. He took to painting apparently

Never apologize for getting lost in the vibe and taken away by Pink Floyd. That is exactly what us Floyd fans come for and hope to see. You are discovering that time loses all meaning when listening to Pink Floyd. Whether 10, 15, or 20 minutes, Floyd will take you on a musical journey and leave you a little disoriented but oh so satisfied at the end. Suggest "Dogs" from their 'Animals' album next. All 17+ minutes of it. Good job!! 👍👍

This song was written years after the song’s subject, their original singer, lost his mind due to Schizophrenia and lots of LSD. He went home and lived with his parents, significantly disabled, for many decades to come until he died. The craziest thing is, he randomly turned up at the studio, years after anyone had seen him, confused, weird and almost unrecognisable - literally while they were recording this song about him…. Talk about a mindfuck

Great that the younger generation are getting into this type of classical rock music, where artist were given time by the music industry execs to express themselves. Much better than the dross of today, where music has to deliver the hook in less than a minute and the song lasting no more than three. Pink Floyd are fantastic, but only one of a multitude of amazing band from the sixties and seventies.

I feel so luck to have grown up with this music. If you do more research, you find that this song is about their founding band mate Syd Barrett that did too many drugs and had a mental break. Check out "See Emily Play" and "Arnold Layne" as very early songs.

The founder, Syd Barrett was ahead of his time. Unfortunately, he had some issues with psychedelics. That’s another story. But Syd passed away of pancreatic cancer in 2006. He left the band back in the late 1960’s. The band mates were haunted by his having to leave the band. But if you research Roger Syd Barrett, you’ll find out what happened to him.. so sad. Keep up with your reactions.. I love when you look directly into the camera! I feel you and what you’ve heard. Magnificent! Love from USA!

Pink Floyd were the first band I got into at the age of 10 bck when Dark Side was released (1973) It gives me great pleasure to see someone like you getting into the same music and having a broad enough mind to embrace old but brilliant music such as this. Nice one

When I listen to this song... so do my neighbors... without complaint. Songs like this made them my top favorite band .... since I was a child in 1968. I'm 60 now and still consider them my band

It may sound like hyperbole but I consider the music on this album the greatest music of the 20th century.

I really like when you do the Floyd reactions.....as their lyrics are very philosophical, so are the titles of their songs. This song has no long introduction.....it has 5 parts.....you'll hear the changes for each one....keep on going you're doing great.

You need to head down the Electric Light Orchestra better known as ELO, try Tightrope, Evil women, Roll Over Beethoven, strange magic, mr. Blue sky and many many more. You will love them and so do we all, runs a close second to pink floyd, of course that's my personal opinion.

Thanks so much for reacting to this one. Just want to say before I watch that there is a second part to this: "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI - IX)" You definitely would want to listen to that one if you like this one.

This song was written about Syd Barrett, their original guitarist and song writer, bit of a sad story. To see you being moved by the music is so gratifying to share in. If you're in the mood for more Pink Floyd goosebumps I'd recommend The Great Gig In The Sky

I just found your channel and your reaction to my favorite Pink Floyd song ever was so satisfying. Watching you take the journey with the song was like hearing it for the first time all over again. Who needs lyrics with that guitar? And when the lyrics do begin, oh my. What a wonderful tribute to Syd.

every band has a creative force that drives the music. for the Beatles it was Lennon & McCartney, for Floyd it was Syd. he was incandescent, his lyrics were beyond any of the rest of them, his chord progressions were unlike anything they had heard before. & then he was gone. it left a hole behind. Roger stepped in to fill the hole with words, mostly about Syd, & David joined the band & filled it with his guitar.

Pink Floyd creates a kind of mythos through their music. A different dimension to explore. You can geek out on it the same way as something like Lord of the Rings. In my school band we used to hang out after classes, and come up with whole sax versions of this song, and of course Money as well.

Feel so lucky to have grown up when Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Genesis, Deep Purple etc were making new music and I was able to take it onboard. Always taking on new stuff eg The Police, Dire straits, Sex Pistols, as each decade progresses. Pearl Jam, INXS .... you can see the pattern. Never let the good stuff go, so by now I have a HUGE musical collection, but I think the music of my teens as a special place

Been listening to Floyd since I could make my own choices which was when The Wall was new. You won't find anything else that compares until TooL comes along. And once Roger leaves, they aren't the same. They were the best at what they did.
