Randy Rhoads was a solid guitarist, but not the legend people make him out to be. His fame and legend status happened because of his untimely death. Had he lived, he'd likely make the top hundred list, but definitely not the top fifty.

Easily in the top 50 hard rock/heavy metal guitarists of all time. Rolling Stone has him at #36. I do agree his untimely death had contributed to his fame, the legendary status was inevitable. Besides his earlier work with Quiet Riot, people need to understand what he accomplished in only 2 albums.

@@montymcclellen1918 - He was definitely in the top 50 of his generation, but certainly not of all time. Again, he was immensely talented, and it would have been interesting to see where he went (had he lived). Ozzy has indicated that Randy was thinking of leaving the rock world to pursue classical or some such thing. Not sure of that, but it would have put a damper on his rock god status. Many of his rock riffs were basically classical riffs that he "borrowed" from various works. And hey... no need to get all butt hurt over this. Everyone has an opinion, and I've said (repeatedly) that he was great. But I simply don't think he'd be labeled with the "guitar god" status if he'd survived. - PS - You really trust the 'Rolling Stone list? That was a popularity contest... nothing more. Hell, they put Keith Richards at number 4, when MOST of the guys on that list could play circles around him. Probably a full third of the names on that list have ZERO business being there (The Edge?!? Really??).

Ozzy's lyrics were much deeper than people realize. You guys should check out Diary of A Madman. Ozzy talking about mental health long before anyone was. My first love of rock in the early 80's.

Pretty sure Bob Daisley wrote the majority of the lyrics. I remember reading about the song diary of a madman and how daisley and Rhodes brought the song to ozzy and he was clueless as to how to sing it because of the odd time signatures. I think Ozzy is credited as a writer but I think it was 99% Daisley.

Remember this was released in 1980. That’s 41 years ago and the message is more relevant now than ever, as we watch our troops head to Europe. Most just think of Ozzy as the guy who bit the head off a bat but he really had a lot to say and being a Brit gave it a different spin. The guitar solo was the incredible Randy Rhoads. Horribly killed in a plane crash in 1982 at age 25. RIP Randy. BTW…. Randy also played by some tapping technique like Eddie Van Halen started in the 70s. Please try Dreamer by Ozzy. He wrote and released it one month after the 9/11 attack on USA. By then Ozzy was also an American, having achieved dual citizenship. It’s a song I would equate to John Lennon’s IMAGINE. Use the official video. His band was a collection of superstars.

They expected satanic worship because that is …. The Prince of Darkness. I think he’s been through hell and survived on sheer determination. But he can step back and know there’s a better way. Dreamer is a perfect example.

@@Mainecoonlady. Most folks I come across Either no nothing about him other than the name Ozzy Osborne, or they know a little about his career but metal or hard rock isn't there thing. Or they remember a bit of the TV show he had but are unaware of stuff like biting heads of bats. But I get what your saying. I just talking about those I have come across. Either way Ozzy Rules. Blizzard of ozz is a great album, although I alos really enjoy Bark at the moon

Ozzy is talented, smart and wildly crazy. That scares some but delights those of us who take the time to listen.

Randy Rhoads is the guitarist's name. Sadly passed away in an accident in 1982. Many guitar players who listen to the era love him just as much as Eddie Van Halen. Ozzy's guitarists are all very well known. Sounds like you will be checking out more of him, so i won't spoil it all!

..there is a great youtube vid of Randy, Eddie and George Lynch playing the same clubs in L.A. Back in the mid late 70s, you could see VH, R.R and George Lynch in the same club in a weekend, before they became legends....glad we still have George

Being in high school in the 80s was awesome. The music, movies, video games, cars, etc etc

This song was a rebirth for Ozzy Osbourne as a solo artist after 10 years w/ Black Sabbath... he could have easily been left for dead, but he proved that he was a viable, popular singer in hard rock/ heavy metal. Black Sabbath had been plagued by mismanagement in the 70's, and they spent later part of the decade struggling financially and creatively. With the last Sabbath record 'Never say die' a commercial failure and a new record going nowhere in 1979, Ozzy Osbourne was fired. He sank into depression, alcohol and drug abuse for months until Sharon Arden, daughter of Sabbath's manager Don Arden, saw potential in Ozzy and offered to manage him. She and Ozzy would marry in 1982. Black Sabbath hired vocalist Ronnie James Dio and saw their popularity surge again in 1980. In 1980, Ozzy was tasked to put a band together... Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, who had never heard of Black Sabbath, auditioned and got the job; he was young (early 20's) and a talented guitarist, who also taught guitar to make a living. Uriah Heep drummer (the late) Lee Kerslake and Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley joined the solo band w/ Rainbow keyboardist Don Airey coming in. 'Crazy train' was a stellar single from the first Ozzy Osbourne record 'Blizzard of Ozz' in 1980, which Randy Rhoads crafted musically and Daisley wrote the lyrics for. The album was recorded cheaply, financed by Sharon, but no record company would sign Ozzy until Epic Records gave him a contract... At a company meeting, Ozzy was to introduce himself by releasing two doves in the air... he did so, but Ozzy also ended up biting a dove's head off - photos of the incident got him huge publicity in the press and 'Blizzard of Ozz' was a hit, selling more copies than the last 2 Black Sabbath records combined! However, Ozzy was still broke cos his royalties from sales were all being collected by Sabbath's manager Don Arden. As tour plans unfolded for Ozzy, he recorded a 2nd album 'Diary of a madman' in 1980 w/ Randy Rhoads on guitar, w/ a better budget & production... In 1981, both 'Blizzard of Ozz' and 'Diary of a madman' sold platinum, and Ozzy was a celebrity overnight; his outrageous antics always made the news that year. However, Ozzy was still broke, cos his royalties from record sales went to Sabbath's manager Don Arden. Sharon split w/ her father's business and took Ozzy out of the Sabbath camp. By 1982, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake had left, and Rudy Sarzo (bass) & Tommy Aldridge (drums) joined Ozzy's band. While on tour, tragedy struck when a small engine plane flying w/ Randy Rhoads on board crashed in the spring of 1982, killing the guitarist at age 24. Despite being devasted by Rhoads' death, Ozzy was urged to carry on by Sharon... Night Ranger guitarist Brad Gillis finished the tour. A live album was recorded w/ Randy Rhoads on guitar, but Ozzy refused to release it after Randy's death... A live Ozzy album 'Speak of the devil' was released in 1982 w/ Brad Gillis on guitar. Ozzy finally gave the OK to release the live album 'Randy Rhoads Tribute' in 1987, and that record sold 2 million copies in the US. Ozzy Osbourne carried on w/ guitarist Jake E. Lee in 1983

Randy is my all time favorite guitarist! He killed everything he touched! This song is everywhere, video games football games they use it everywhere, lil John had a song he used this as the back track to where Travis barker played the drums on it, it wasn’t bad either

OZZY'S song DIARY OF A MADMAN Is an absolute masterpiece. It really is head and shoulders above most hard rock songs in terms of song structure and chord progression, time signatures and not getting into Prog... just a banger of a song. Really a must listen.

@@diedregerick1438 I wore out the cassette and had to buy a new one. I still own the record I bought the day it was released. I enjoy this whole record still to this day. When this came out, as a teen boy it was the perfect record.

Rarely gets reviewed but S.A.T.O. is easily one of Ozzy's best Rhoads era songs, one of Randy's best studio guitar solos, it's magnificent

Imagine being a 13 yr old long hair stoner during this time (early 1980s) . There was SOOOOOOOO much good music back then and life was just fun and easy. I feel bad for kids these days that will never know that kind of life. Watch any documentary on 80s Metal and you'll like totally get it like for sure! LOL. Btw... Randy Rhoads was Ozzy's guitarist on the first three albums after he left Black Sabbath. Randy was in a band before called Quiet Riot. There is a cool video called Randy Rhoads Solos. His speed and accuracy is matched by no one!! Randy stood about 5 foot nothin' but was an absolute beast on guitar. He had a custom built polka-dot V shaped guitar that was iconic, then and now. Very popular or famous guitars get copied by every manufacturer out there. No one has ever made a copy of the "Randy Rhoads Polka Dot Flying V". Randy is a legend who has earned respect in the guitar and music world. He died in a plane crash at age 25. Ozzy's bus driver was also a pilot. Randy went for a ride along with the bands hair stylist. The bus driver/pilot was showing off by buzzing the bus Ozzy was sleeping in. He went to low and crashed. Everyone in the plane was killed instantly.

Ozzy was so broken and traumatized not only by the death of his friend (Randy was definitely not just his guitarist), but that it happened right there in front of him; pieces from the plane hit the bus Ozzy was sleeping in. He was so despondent afterward for quite some time he just wanted to lie down and give up, but Sharon practiced tough love and helped him push through it to be able to perform again.

...I was also a 13 year old stoner in 1980. I sort of cut my teeth on "Paranoid" and" Iron Man"( 8 track). I was stoked when Blizzard of OZ came out....I never seem to tire of Blizzard an Diary, still is what defines metal to me. Today's metal is not what I call Metal...Peace Victor

"Black Sabbath" got me into metal...40 plus years ago

Randy Rhodes, the classically trained guitar player, and undoubtedly one of the best rock & roll guitarists, died tragically after this album was made. He was in an airplane that was going to buzz Ozzy's tour bus, and got too close and clipped the bus and crashed.

This was basically fully sampled for the track by Trick Daddy feat. Lil Jon & Twista - Let's Go. It brought additional attention to the song and Ozzy Osbourne (and Black Sabbath as well) by people who were more knowledgeable in the rap/hip-hop genre and less in the rock/metal genre. Another reason why reaction channels are so fun. I think a lot of good musicians of all genres will grow/expand from learning about music history thru videos like yours.

"Maybe it's not too late to learn how to love and forget how to hate" -Ozzy Osbourne, who was billed as the Prince of Darkness Musically, I am so glad to have been born in the late '70s. I got to live through the glory days if '80s rock and late '80s - early '90s rap.

Personal favorite? "Shot in the Dark" That said, the man has countless hits. "Mr. Crowley" should probably be your next pick. I'd also recommend "Bark at the Moon" and, if you're looking for something darker "No More Tears." If you haven't already, you'll probably also want to go back and check out classic Black Sabbath tracks like "Paranoid" and "Iron Man."

The Ultimate Sin is a great album with like you said Shot in the Dark, Lightning Strikes, Fool Like You, The Ultimate Sin and my fav off the album - Killer of Giants.

People thought and still think Ozzy/Sabbath were evil. Never the case. Just freaky. And talented. The guitarist here, RR, was a devout Christian and abstained from alcohol

Master Randy Rhoads on guitar 🎸 he passed away at the age of 25 ,but he he is considered the Master you need to watch the videos and see him .the the first 2 Ozzy solo career. Randy died in a plane crash at the age of 25 March 19th 1982 saving lives.

In high school my best friend and I put this song anytime we got together. He loved taping down the button on the CB radio (like truckers use) and laying the microphone down on the speaker and "broadcasting" this song to anyone on that channel. Sadly my friend died a couple years after graduation from high school.

This is from Ozzy Osbournes first solo album in 1981 called "Blizzard of Oz" (after he was fired from Black Sabbath in 1978). Both that album and the follow up, "Diary of a Madman", are some of Ozzy's BEST work and ESPECIALLY because of the then unknown musical genius guitarist named Randy Rhodes who studied Classical guitar, he was OFF the CHAIN!!! Unfortunately he died shortly after recording the 2nd album in a plane/bus accident. To ME he IS in the top 10 guitarists of ALL Rock/Metal history!!! Please more Ozzy Osbourne!!! Whether from Black Sabbath (1968-1978) or his Solo career (1981-currently)

Randy Rhodes was no doubt one of the most talented guitarist of all time. This is, in my opinion, the greatest guitar solo ever written. God rest Randy’s soul🙏🏻

Welcome to Ozzie post Black Sabbath. There is a lot of Sabbath that should be required listening for rock :-) But I also pretty much anything Ozzie on his own. . Mr Crowley is probably my absolute favorite. It reflects Ozzie's fascination with Aleister Crowley, a well known occultist. Not my cup of tea, but he is an interesting guy. The song is excellent.

This brings back such memories, My Mother thought Ozzy was devil worshiping music. back in the day we had albums and usually the lyrics were inside the album cover. It took weeks to explain and show Mom Ozzy Music was positive NOT devil worsting!! After she read Sucicde solution lyrics i got my albums back. she was surprised How the media sold it and SHE lived the roll. LOL some things sadly never change.

Randy was the greatest guitarist who ever picked up a guitar. God only knows what more he could have given us. He just turned 25 when he was killed. Check out any Randy Rhoads, I especially recommend his 'Live After Hours videos' with Ozzy. Mr Crowley is unreal

All fantastic guitarists. Eddie and Randy widely regarded as two of the best guitarists ever. And Randy died at 25 years old

Second generation Ozzy fan. My dad was a fan. Now I am passing on the music to my son's. You can't go wrong with any of his music. A career spanning over 50 years. He joined Black Sabbath at 18 and has a brand new album set to drop this year. Like earlier comments it's best to start with early work. Blizzard i Of Oz and Diary of a Madman. Over the Mountain is one of my all time faves that not alot of other guys are reacting to.

My favorite Ozzy Osbourne songs are "Over The Mountain" and "Diary of a Madman" off the Diary of a Madman album. "Revelation Mother Earth" from "Blizzard Of Ozz" is also amazing.

Metal is the most relevant music out of every genre, because all the greatest songs are written to speak, not to sell.

You guys really need to react to some more Ozzy but specifically you guys should check out Ozzy’s two legendary solo records blizzard of Oz and diary of a madman both featuring one of the greatest guitarist in heavy-metal history Randy Rhoads. I think the next song you guys should check out is believer by Ozzy.

He left his band Black Sabbath and reinvented himself into this new sound. No one sounded like his band the Blizzard of Oz was the name of his band! Great guitarist too who died in a plane crash but is still regarded as one of the best !

Yep!!... my son would play this song ( and other head banging music)... before his wrestling matches in high school. ... and the songs must have helped!!.... because he went totally undefeated his senior year, and won state championship in Madison WI 😍😍🤣🤣

I know a lot of people say this about a lot of guitarist and most of the guitarist out there are really great but Randy was something else being only 22-25 and writing masterpieces nowadays it’s unheard of. Every lick within the song has so much feel and meaning and the solo has even more feel. I personally love Diary of a Madman. It really show cases Randy’s raw talent going from a weird scale to a weird time signature and can’t forget about the classical guitar. Most people just hear the great guitar riffs and the heavy metal beat, but Ozzy either wrote, or helped write all of his music🎶🎸 He was always very socially aware of what was going on around him and often included those issues in his lyrics🎶 Another really great song you should check out is "No More Tears"!!🎸🎶🎸💙

I saw Ozzy in Hampton VA during his Bark at the moon tour. Unfortunately Randy Rhoades had passed a year or two earlier. Accept opened for Ozzy,they were in the middle of their bows at the end of their set,everyone in the coliseum started chanting for Ozzy.great show. Was pretty much deaf for about 4 hours after.

i'm so glad to see more people recognize that metal isn't really as bad as you would think. it has meaning to it just like all music and it holds a special place to some people and for me this song is always a favorite ..especially for basketball games at my school, i play the drumset in pep band and every time i play it i go all out with it

I'm 55 years old generation X. Sounds like they cleaned up the original master recordings. The bass really is solid and Randy's guitar is so much cleaner than the original recording.

This is the infamous 2002(?) version where Lee Kerslake's and Bob Daisley's original drum and bass parts were removed and re-recorded with drum and bass parts by Mike Bordin and Robert Trujillo. This was done because of a royalties dispute between Kerslake/Daisley and Ozzy/Sharon on the Blizzard of Ozz & Diary of a Madman albums.

Great song and album buy ozzy!! Saw him in concert when this album came out with def Leppard as the warm up band!!

Easily the best cover ever made of this song and it's not even close haha they nailed it beginning to end. And the lead singer (Melody) is a girl, but once you hear her voice in this song you'll understand why it's so great haha

Killer of Giants, Waiting for Darkness, Dreamer. Just a few of Ozzy´s best ones in my mind. I grew up listening to his music before I was a teen. The lyrics hit differently these days, they feel more real.
