This is our dark angel and gothic metal queen Tarja 🎉 The original NW singer. I love her. Her voice is my favorite and her combo with Marko is unbeatable. Years later, she reconciled with him as the only origin member of Nightwish, after he apologized to her, and they even sang together at a Christmas concert a few years ago. She has her own solo carrier now. She is long term friend with Floor. Yeah, there's that one period that imo we'd most likely all want to forget the AT (after Tarja) and BF (before Floor) period, but things eventually worked out. Still a major fan of OG NW

I love Nightwish !! And Tarja as a special place in my heart, feels so nostalgic. I recomand you *Phantom of the Opera -Live -End of an era* , both tarja and marko vocal performance is legendary!

Im one of the younger guys who started listening to Nightwish only after Tarja left the band. After that, I never had the opportunity to see them live. And when Marco announced in 2021 that he´s leaving the band, I thought that this is basically over for Nightwish. However, then in early June 2024 (a week before writing this), I had the opportunity to see Tarja and her band at the Pilsen´s Metalfest. And to my surprise, after a few songs, she brought Marco from the tent and dragged him to the stage, and they started singing the "Wish I had an angel" like in the old times of Nightwish. The crowd was absolutely drenched after 2 days of open air Metalfest under constant thunderstorms, yet I´ve never seen the crowd go as crazy as then. The amphitheatre was soon surrounded by other onlookers, and even people in the nearby highrise buildings soon swarmed the terraces. One of the most epic moments I´ve ever seen.

You should check more of the Tarja era songs. Tarja and Floor are both amazing in their own way❣️

Floor is the 3rd and current vocalist, and, at this point she has the longest tenure. The other vocalists are awesome in their own right and it's worth checking out their older material too. Tarja is awesome.

Longest is sightly arguable considering how far back Tarja and Tuomas go and how inactive Nightwish has been the last decade, but she isn't even close to Tarja in albums and songs. Also, while Annette was without doubt the weakest member in Nightwish, Tuomas was on fire during her time! Sadly she made mockery of those masterpieces (apart from Amaranth, she owned that one), that Floor elevated to their masterpiece level (particularly Storytime, Annette vs Floor performing it is like Nightmare vs Nigthwish) Which is why it is so amazing that (unlike Annette) Floor can perform almost all of Tarja's and Annette's songs live and in most cases better than them (particularly starting from Once)

Tarja! 😍 She was Tuomas' classmate and he asked her after they finished school if she wanted to sing on his demo, which became their first album! She's incredible, so talented and just kinda iconic with her dark, smooth voice and gothic vibe. She was in the band for 9 years and there's lots of great live performances that are worth to check out! *Wishmaster (End of an Era)* and *Slaying the Dreamer (End of an Era)* or *Dead Boy's Poem (From Wishes to Eternity)* are a few I really like!

Tarja played for Nightwish from 1997 to 2005. Floor Jansen is amazing, but Tarja's voice it's another level of emotions. She's probably one of the best female heavy metal singers all of time. I'm 37 years old and I turned 18 when this song was released.

We all love Marko's voice❤️😁 So now you have heard Tarja Turunen. She was their first singer and one of the founding members of Nightwish. This was almost 10 years before Floor joined Nightwish. There was also another singer, Anette Olzon, between Tarja and Floor. As you heard, Tarja has an amazing voice too. I have to warn you though, some of the Nightwish fans are at war against each other, which is the better singer, Floor or Tarja. Just don't get into that. It is just a waste of your time and there is no solution, except the one that they all are exceptional. When it comes to music videos, I have to say that their best one is for the song called Nemo (My opinion of course). That is with Tarja, too. Nemo is from the same album as this song. The album is called Once. It came out in 2004, and it was the last album with Tarja. Wish I Had an Angel was the song that got them some attention in America. You will come to notice that a lot of the songs and many of their hit songs were written for Tarja when she was still in the band. The obvious reason being that she made 5 albums with them. I agree, Tarja's stuff is amazing to me. when I was getting into the band her albums were the old songs so I had to listen to that while awaiting Dark Passion Play. Annette's Albums are superb albums but her live performances lacked the same magic that Tarja has. Floor is amazing live (seen them twice). Floor's renditions of Tarja's songs are great, but I feel that Tarja portrays an emotion in some of the songs that Floor just can't do.

That’s Tarja - their first singer. Tarja has also a lot of great songs with Nightwish - all a little bit older but also great ❤. And Marco is also a fantastic singer. Try „The Islander“ (live from Tampere) or „While your lips are still red“ (live from Wembley) - both with Floor as background singer… 🏆👍‼️

This was my first introduction to Nightwish and it has a lot of strong, amazing memories. So glad you got to this one.

@@vanessalore9942 You mean Beauty of the Beast? No, the only time I heard it performed live was during their 2002 tour. You can find a live version of it, recorded in Amsterdam in 2002 on YT. You could say it's the GLS of Century Child... but even better.

That is original lead singer Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen. She is the most operatic of the 3 female lead singers. Anette Olzon, more a pop/rock style ,was 2nd, Floor is the 3rd and current. Tarja's vocal ability is why Tuomas switched to symphonic metal from the original plan of acoustic mood music. Tarja 1996-2005 Anette 2007-2012 Floor 2012 -present.(2013 permanent) The song was written out of frustration. Tuomas was at a bar with his ,then, GF and all the guys there kept hitting on her. It also has the distinction of being the last song that Tarja sang with Nightwish. It was the show closer at 2005 Helsinki (End of an Era DVD), her last show. Marko Hietala (2nd of 3 bassists 2001-2021) sang backing or co-lead on a lot of songs , and lead on a few. Sami Vanska -bass 1998-2001. Jukka Koskinen bass 2021 -present(2022 permanent) Jukka Nevalainen on drums here (1997-2014) stepped away from performing due to health issues caused by severe insomnia, but remains with the band in management. Kai Hahto drums 2014 -present (2019 permanent) Troy Donockley multi instrumentalist and vocals 2007-present (2013 permanent) Tuomas Holopainen Keyboards , primary songwriter and Emppu Vuorinen -guitar are original and current members.

She was the original singer. Wishmaster is another amazing song from her where she shows off her operatic nature. Tarja Turunen was the first vocalist, followed by Anette Olzon and the latest is Floor Jansen. Jukka Nevalainen was replaced by Kai Hahto on drums (from the band Wintersun as well as Nightwish's current bassist Jukka Koskinen), so both played in Wintersun.

@@Arend010 Tarja has developed her voice a lot since leaving NW, especially her chest voice. It is much richer now. Both Tarja and Floor are amazing, each with a unique voice. As a teenager, I developed a pretty big addiction to Tarja's voice. But I really like Floor in the new songs from NW and in After Forever and ReVamp.

Nightwish did a movie where they do all the music and star in it! The lead female vocalist they have for it is Anette, the one in between Tarja and Floor. Not for those who have a fear of clowns, I'll warn you right now...

Marko's growls are awesome. He knows the right way to do it for sure. There's a song he sings alone, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it is. #nightwish

If you watch older videos, you will see a different bassist as well. Until 2001 it was Sami Vänskä who had to leave the band because of alcoholism. But he couldn't sing. Tarja, Empuu and Tuomas first went on tour as a trio and were planning something more like a folk band for "campfire music". Empuu also played an acoustic guitar there. Then they got away from there. One of the first pieces is called Nightwish and that's how the band got its name: Nightwish - Nightwish

The song writers for the 2 greatest musical acts ever both had their roots in death/black metal. This is one.

Nightwish has had three singers. This video has their first singer, Tarja Turunen who was one of the founding members of the band. Next was Anette Olzon and then the singer you're use to Floor Jansen. As to other past members, before Marco Hietala there was Sami Vänskä on bass and now Marco has been replaced by Jukka Koskinen. Lastly, the drummer Jukka Nevalainen has been replaced by Kai Hahto (who use to be Jukka's roadie.)

Hello and thank you again. Yes, there are three female singers. My favorite song by each one of them; First Tarja; Creek Mary's Blood Second Annette; Meadows of Heavens Third Floor; Shoemaker To me personally each period has it own charm. I can't compare them because, they are all unique and good. The only thing I can say is that if you have to replace someone it is always difficult. Therefore I respect the one who made the prior songs from the other female singers their own by going it their own twist instead of trying to copy the prior singers. Which is impossible to me personally because, they all have their own style of doing things. Also Floor was invited in 2013 by Tarja when she was performing to sing together a Nightwish song called; Over the hill and far away. Sadly enough Floors microphone wasn't working that well. Tarja even mentioned it in one of an old interview at the time. Both Tarja and Floor sang The Phantom of the Opera. I love both. Tarja and Marco Floor and Henk My oldest son have seen both live. He likes Tarja and Marco's version better although, he respect and can also appreciate Floors and Henk. I respect and appreciate Tarja's and Marco's version but, never seen it live like my son did. I love Floors and Henks and when they performed it live it was to me personally very special due to the fact it was only more then 1 week that she heard that she is after the breast cancer surgery she is cancer free but, around this time she is getting her radiation therapy. I admire her that she was performing. I respect her for that. I saw Nightwish on November 27 2022. (October surgery, first concert again November 20 Belgium, now radiation therapy) Last night I was at another concert from Epica. They are also very good. I think you might like them too. I spoke to a person who likes Nightwish and Epica. He was there in Antwerpen, Belgium and said during that concert right after she heard that she was cancer free she broke. She went to the back. Came back again and was was so good. So special that she performed the way she did. I think you'll like each Nightwish period. Check out each period, please. I know our Nightwish Army General Gabe must have send you his welcoming speech that he took over from Anne the mother of the Nightwish Army who past away. He gives every new reactor to Nightwish information and official links to each period to react to. Maybe you can make once in a while a reaction like you do with my other favorite BTS. You know lyrics, music video, live performance. Nightwish is also known that they don't always perform a song the same way. Thank you! You explained that beautifully. Sometimes I get a little put out by the lack of appreciation and respect for this era. It’s not not just about Tarja, it’s about the whole band. And that goes for the Annette era as well. I only found Nightwish about 9 months ago and I discovered the Tarja era 1st so perhaps that’s why I care so much. It makes me sad that there aren’t more requests for it. So thank you for reminding me why I watch these reactions in the first place.

They had a nice conversation about different kind of music. He told me that they were very nice people. He met Floor in person when she was with After Forever. He said she was very humble and down to earth. Nightwish are storytellers. They have really beautiful songs. Tarja did a collaboration with another band called Within Temptation. The song is called; Paradise (what about us). There is a music video and also a live performance of it. Also Tarja does almost every year Christmas performances. They are also very good. Tarja was the first singer there was an acrimonious break in the early 2000's. She was great and still records metal music try her duet with within temptation singer Sharon den Adel called paradise brilliant

Going great! Oh their first drummer is Jukka Nevalainen. He had to leave because of health issues & their current drummer is Kai Hahto! Since Marko has now left, he has temporarily been replaced by Jukka Koskinen. Although I recently read somewhere that Marko is coming out of retirement, but no mention was made he was coming back to Nightwish or not. Hope this bit of info helps you out! There are others that can fill you in better than I can with their past history! 😊💜💚👍

Yes! Tarja and Tuomas had been classmates, then she went off for vocal training. Tuomas had a folkish sounding idea and asked Tarja to sing. When he heard her newly trained vocals, he knew that the initial idea would not work and he created the Nightwish sound to support Tarja's vocals. We are all thankful for the outcome. There are a few songs in the catalog where I prefer Tarja , some that I prefer Floor, some that I like equally, and a few where Anette shines. Each vocalist has caused Tuomas to explore new things and we are blessed with the results.

Documentary movie "learn the setlist in 48 hours" created about replacing lead vocal in between the shows during the US tour, Floor had to fly in from Europe on short notice. One show between Anette and Floor was performed with help from Kamelot's Tommy Karevik and Kamelot's guest vocalists Elize Ryd (also auditioned for Nightwish) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy). - Jukka Nevalainen retreated to the backroom stuff for health issues (nasty insomnia problems) sometime between the tours from 6th and 7th album (2014-2015), Kai Hahto from Wintersun became temporary and then permanent replacement on drums. Jukka had to choose between not having sleep disorder and playing drums for a living.

The original lineup was Tuomas Holopainen (Keyboardist), Emmpu Vuorinen (Guitar), and Tarja Turunen (Vocals on this video). They started with some acoustic music that Tuomas had written while in the army and released a demo in 1996. After the release of the demo, they brought Jukka Nevalainen (Drummer on this and the other videos you've watched) in in 1997. This is when they started playing heavier music. They used a set bassist named Samppa Hirvonen during their first performances, but he was conscripted in 1998 and they brought in Sami Vanska (He is the bassist from when I first started listening to the band). During 1998, they opened for Children of Bodom and Tarot, Marko Hietala's (The bassist/vocalist in the videos you've seen) first band. In 2001, they recorded an EP with male vocalist Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica). Then Sami Vanska was dismissed from the band for being unreliable and Marko ended up joining the band in 2001 as a replacement bassist and vocalist. In 2005, Tarja was dismissed from the band, being handed a letter at the end of their last End of an Era concert telling her she was being removed from the band, leading to what many considered the death of Nightwish. However, in 2006, Nightwish chose Anette Olzon as their new lead singer. The two albums with Anette were some of the most commercially successful albums the band had produced, but there was a huge division in the Nightwish fanbase with many loyal to Tarja, and it didn't help that Anette's voice and singing style were not the same as Tarja's, so even many who sided with the band versus Tarja still were unhappy with Anette. Then while on tour in 2012, Anette became sick before one of the shows and was replaced by Elize Ryd (Amaranthe/Kamelot) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy/Kamelot) who were currently with Kamelot as Nightwish's opening act. Anette was against the decision, and posted about it publicly. A few days after the Denver show, Nightwish released a statement saying they were parting ways with Anette and bringing Floor Jansen (After Forever/ReVamp) in for the rest of the tour. Floor famously had to "learn the setlist in 48 hours" and there is a documentary about it. In October 2013, Floor was announced as an official member of the band, along with Troy Donockley (He played some pipes during the Wacken 2013 set, but it wasn't until the following album that he had a huge part in the band. He plays guitar, pipes, flute, etc.) In 2014, Jukka stepped down due to medical issues, and Kai Hahto (Wintersun) would be taking his place. In 2016, Sami Vanska and Jukka Nevalainen returned for a 20th anniversary show. Kai Hahto was announced as an official member of the band in 2019. In January 2021, Marko announced he was departing the band. In May 2021, bassist Jukka Koskinen (Wintersun) was announced as Marko's replacement for the upcoming tour, and was made an official member of the band in August 2022.

This is Nightwish's first singer, Tarja Turunen (1996-2005), who performed on the first five albums. She was preemptively sacked and replaced with the second singer, Anette Olzon (2007-2012) a very pop style singer who was on the next two albums. She was replaced by Floor Jansen mid tour in late 2012 who can sing almost everything by either of them although several have been altered to fit her vocals. This is why Nightwish have again been able to perform songs by all the singers on tour.

Nightwish has had 3 lead vocalists, Tarja (heard here), Annette (don't think you've heard her yet) and Floor (current vocalist). My favorite song featuring Annette is probably "Scaretale." If you want to hear Marco (bassist) on lead vocals. I highly recommend, "The Islander" the music video and the official live.

This was way before Floor. Tarja Turunen was the original singer (it's her in the video), she was replaced by Anette Olzon who was then replaced by Floor (they tend to not treat their female singers that well). Anette couldn't perform Tarja's songs that well (to be kind), but Floor can, at least somewhat. She also has no problem singing Anette's songs, so she was probably the best possible replacement they could get (I like her, I just prefer Tarja's voice). I think Tuomas is the only original member left now. Edit: Nope, I was wrong, the guitarist is also an original member.

All their vocalists have been talented, and very different from each other. Tarja was more classical/operatic, Anette more pop, Floor more rock - but the biggest advantage Floor has is her versatility, so she can sing all the old songs. Sometimes I will prefer her interpretation, sometimes I still prefer the original. Most often I prefer how the original starts, but prefer how Floor livens up the ending (she has a talent for that). Nightwish are generally best live, but they do have some videos that are as good or better. If you want to do more, my picks would be Nemo (Tarja), Amaranth (Anette), and Elan (Floor), plus possibly The Islander (Marko), but although that last is beautiful to watch I do prefer the live Tampere version. If you want to explore more with the other singers I suggest starting with The Phantom of the Opera official live End of an Era for Tarja (not to be confused with the newly released Floor/Henk version), and Slow Love Slow live at Montreux Jazz Festival for Anette. For solo Marko, try High Hopes (End of an Era).

Another live you should check out is Pink Floyd tribute 'High Hope'.

In this video from 2004 I guess you saw Tarija the first singer singing together with Marco who was the second but most popular bassist and Jukka on the drums. Pretty easy to identify because I think he must be born with his Bandana ;) So the only original members who are still in the band are Toumas Holopainen the founder and songwriter of nearly all of their songs and Emppu Vuorinen the guitarist.

I love Tarja Turunen era and especially this song along with the whole album, she's one of the reasons this genre deserves to called symphonic metal, in fact she's the first one singing GLS and she sings this beautifully, and Marko looks so badass, too bad they're not anymore in this band along with Jukka the drummer, don't get me wrong I love Floor's work too, she really step up this band to the next level. Yes, this is Tarja, the first vocalist. Personally, I prefer Floor’s vocals, but that’s just my opinion. Although, Tarja’s Phantom of the Opera performance with Nightwish plus Marko on vocals is really cool.

Well, you've obviously met *THE VALKYRIE* , Floor Jansen - the newest singer of Nightwish. This is *THE DIVA* , Tarja Torunen, the OG singer of Nightwish. Not only she was before Floor. She is the very first one. The original voice of Nightwish.

Tarja was the original singer around 1997-2005. and this was one of the songs originally written for her voice. Floor is simply versalite enought o sing the same songs. After Nightwish had gone through Tarja, Anette and Floor, some fans kept saying that they don't understand the fight about the best singer because obviously Marko has been always the best. Nowadays they have to "cope" with Floor only. Marko is/was also the lead singer of band called Tarot. They haven't been performing since one of the band members deceased.

Tarja is full-on operatic background wise. This is noticeable through out. You won't get growls from her. Nevertheless there are stand outs like The Siren, their version of Walking In The Air, Sleeping Sun, both Once Upon A Troubadour and Beauty and The Beast (please album version - in those Tuomas sings!) and . All these so far Floor hasn't done her version of so remains unique lol. Tarja's voice is always haunting in sound and those songs truly need it.. So much so that some songs Floor does redo some fans like me feel it fitted tarja better. Floor singing like Tarja "haunting-like operatic sound" closest in Poet and The Pendulum.

Of course they had another singer. They had two singers before Floor. Tarja (the one from the video) is the first one. And the most well-known one.

Tarja!!! The ONE and ONLY NW Voice! Not that Floor is bad,not at all....but the unltimate voice is still Tarja!
