DJ Premier told XXL: Right at the beginning of the record, when he says, “Straight out the dungeons of rap, where fake niggas don’t make it back.” And then there’s kind of like a silence, where the music is building up, and you hear Nas go, “I don’t know how to start this shit.” He [had just written it], and he was trying to figure out how to format it, like when to come in. I’m waving at him in the control room like, “Look at me, go in for the count.” So right when he looks up and sees me counting, he just jumps in. He did the whole first verse in one take, and I remember when he finished the first verse, he stopped and said, “Does that sound cool?” And we were all like, “Oh my God!”

Ice Cube said to NaS on his 'The Bridge' podcast, "Back then we were doing our penmanship, then you came and put it in Cursive". Highest compliments from 1 of Hip-Hop Greats! Illmatic is like New Testament to Catholics, it is like BC & AD, Before Illmatic and after Illmatic! Facts!

Great honest opinion!!! What's really on display is his lyrical prowess at such a young age. He wrote this rhyme as a teenager!!! "Gimme a Smith & Wesson and I'll have niggas undressin...." 🎤🔥

"Biggie's Ready to Die album came out several months after Illmatic, and Biggie was crowned king of New York in the popular culture of Hip Hop heads, Ready to Die unfairly over-shadowed Illmatic, which is truly a classic album. Though they were quite distinct artists, they innovated in analogous ways. Biggie merged language that was high and low, vernacular and vocabulary words, in a way that sounded natural. He did this with a sophisticated understanding of the patterns of black language. When a different or unusual word or phrase could be introduced while still maintaining the aesthetics of black language, he inserted it. NaS, in contrast, merged concepts that were high and low, vernacular and metaphysical, in a manner that was whole rather than pieced together, thus presenting a complex that is unusual in any music outside of jazz. What Biggie started to do with language in 1994, NaS had already begun to do with ideas on Illmatic. He carries us through the "Righteous steps" of the cosmic, oceanic, and literal dimensions of his person. He transcends." - Imany Perry (Born To Use Mics)

Illmatic - Classic aka New Testament of Hip-Hop! KD3 - Classic Magic - Classic IWW - Classic Stillmatic - Classic LT1 - Classic LIG - Classic (1st Grownman Hip-Hop Album, which J tried to emulate with 4:44) KD2 - Classic GS - Classic DR - Classic (Unlike any other Hip-Hop album with Africa Vibes) KD1 - Fantastic Album Untitled - Is a very good album, has aged well & will stand the test of time due to it's content. HHID - Good album, has aged well I Am - Good album, has aged well, original version would have been Classic if not for sabotage by Record Label & Leaking it. LT2 - Good, some Very Good highs, but more lows SD - Good, would have been Very Good if just 1 album instead of 2LP, has aged well. Nasir - Feels rushed, with 1-2 Excellent tracks. Nastradamus - OK, the highs are special which would have been on I Am, but too many lows for me, but has aged well.

Nas is really a great storyteller and great rapper, undervalued by some and especially not in 🇺🇸, he inspired so many artists and 50 Cent recently said pfobably he's the 🐐 and Eminem was inspired by LL Cool J and Eminem said that's why they say he's the 🐐, and even LL Cool J if you're not born in 🇺🇸 you don't know him or not so much, you have to be a real passionate of rap. I began with The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac, East Coast vs West Coast was 🔥. You're from Tennessee!? So you're used to be along with the 🐐🐐 cause Randy Orton is the best wrestler of all time and Bianca Belair is the E-S-T, Rick Ross is born in Mississippi but moved to Miami and what a banger he did with Meek Mill last month, the song on Shaq & Kobe titled like that blew the roof, we waited 12 years for them to featuring after Ima Boss and Rozay is real Boss

He painted a picture of Queensbridge Projects, the largest public housing complex in the United States. It's a vignette straight out of QB.

Good honest review. I don’t think much of your reaction ( since were being honest) . On the bright side I’m glad you can’t relate to this record. I’m from New York. Those were some dark days. On the other hand it’s your disconnection from this is what makes you mention Eminem ( the Elvis of hip hop. That’s not a compliment).
