I feel like I might have missed your full opening conversation about bike wrecks and black big toes.....but it put two memories in the front of my mind. The worst injury that I ever had on my foot ( Until I basically ripped it in half in the Navy 2 separate times and most of it is now metal.) But before that I was about 8 and we were staying with my Grandma and her place is really boring she just lives in this little suburb with nothing to do. But 1 year she got a bicycle and I was riding that sucker around barefoot 1 day. That was stupid they weren't rubber or plastic coated pedals they were those old school sharp metal ones. I caught my little toe in between one of those petals and this Is concrete curb. It tore every scrap of skin off my little toe and it hurt like you wouldn't believe. The other one, It was talking about the black toe. A buddy of mine played symbols in the band and he played those really big heavy ones. He was changing shoes after band practice 1 day and I guess he didn't get his carrying case zipped up. And he adjusted it while he was standing there barefoot and those symbols fell out and hit dead center of the toenail of his bare big toe. He had to go to the doctor and the doctor was certain that if those had hit any higher up he would have lost his big toe right there they would have just chopped it off. Because as it was it completely tore off that toenail and still cracked the bone of his big toe and gave him a gash all the way to the bone, And the bone was notched. His toenail saved the tip of his toe from being cut off. I cannot tell or hear that story without getting the willies so you're welcome for my sacrifice.
