Joni Mitchell was one of most prolific composers of the 60's 70's and 80's. Her albums had her artwork on the covers. She was a talented artist in so many ways. One of her first songs on TV was " Urge For Going." She was so poetic. Ladies of the Canyon, Blue, Court and Spark, Heija, and all her later jazzy albums, it was so wonderful it was to have her music in our lives.

One of my all time favorite singers!! Beautiful!!
@heidih288728 күн бұрын
She's playing a dulcimer.. sometimes called a mountain dulcimer, an instrument always played on a lap or tabletop. They might have 3 strings, or 4 strings. Joni was self-taught re: playing it, and developed her own unique, somewhat percussive style of playing that made it fit the music better than the typical soft/gentle strumming normally associated with dulcimer playing. She was an amazing guitar player, piano player and musical composer, lyricist, and yes, she really was a graphic artist FIRST, before getting into music. Many of her album covers were of her artwork, and some later albums contained glossy brochures that showcased several of her paintings as well. TRUE talent and creativity for sure! 🥰

In the 60s/70s/80s many people went to California for the scenery, the weather, but also because it's where creative types could flourish. Hollywood was there but it was also a centre for the music industry; not just for the US but Canada as well. It's no surprise that many Canadians like Joni Mitchell went to California. Many still go to California but there are lots of other places one can go these days.
