Hi! Im from Sweden, and saw Jon Henrik on Talang that year. I still cry like a baby to Daniels jojk everytime I hear it. A few years after this, Jon Henrik revealed in interviews that he back then was planning to sing this song on Talang, and then take his own life (to join Daniel again) Believe that I am so glad he didn't do it. Now he is a really famous and popular singer in sweden ❤️

The Sámi are the people native to the areas in Northern Scandinavia, known for their reindeer herder lifestyle. And yeah joiks usually don't have lyrics, they're pure vocalizations meant to express emotions, and are usually dedicated to certain people or nature.

Lyrics Are you still with me, my dear friend, Though I no longer see you? Are you still here on earth, As you are in my heart? I lie here and ponder, It's desolately quiet around me. Tears break out and fall, With the thought of you. An angel that was forgotten here, Have now got his wings. Where do you fly now, my angel? Where do you fly now? Are you flying through the pearly gates? Or the end of the world? Are you flying next to me? Or am I all alone now? Wherever you are now, my friend. Wherever the road leads you. Promise me you'll wait there, Until I meet you. I hope you're happy now. As I was with you. And the pain you've suffered, I hope it's forgotten. Fly freely, my dear friend. You are free now. And until we meet again, Farewell, my angel.

The amazing thing is he is not even Sami by blood but Columbian. Swedish couple adopted him and he would not have known he was at all different if he was not bullied at a young age for being born not Sami. It's the human condition the same in any corner of the world. Nevertheless, what a wonderful man he has become.

I think this is the most heartfelt moment in Swedish television. Sami is the natives of northern Sweden, Finland, Norway and Russia. Jon Henrik and Anina- I en värld full av strider (In a world full of war) is a good choice

Jojk (also luohti, vuollie, leu'dd and juoiggus), Sami for singing, is an ancient Sami song, among the oldest in Europe. The term jojka originally comes from the Sami word juoigat. A jojk must not contain any words or sentences. The sound of joik/jojk is comparable to the traditional chanting of some Native American cultures. Joik/jojk shares some features with the shamanistic cultures of Siberia, which mimic the sounds of nature

''Have sat and looked around a bit on the nets and found lots of places where texts on Daniel's joik are spread as if it is actually a poem to him. The text of Daniel's joik does not exist but the only thing in that joik is five words that are: I remember you my friend. You are very welcome to share this so that people do not end up singing a text to Daniel's joik that is not in the song at all. The text that people are so used to having in front of them is only in my heart and in my story and no one else can read it. But you can feel it in your tears when you listen to it. If you have lost someone close to you, you can feel the text even more. Daniel's joik is a transparent thread that goes into you and gives you feelings that you may have forgotten or need to let go, you could say. Much like all the other songs I do where there is no written lyrics. A lot of music is tied to lyrics today but the lyrics would not have been as strong if the feeling in the music was not there and played on the emotional strings🙏❤'' source- facebook.com/JonHenrikFjallgren/posts/1422582177780051/ Sadly his Facebook post is unavailable/ deleted

He's from Colombia but grew up in Sapmi in Northern Sweden which might sound like a huge cultural difference, but, like you said, he couldn't be in a more perfect place because the Sami calture ain't that much different from various native American ones.

@Marcus In fact, she's partly right. The Sami culture belongs to a cultural circle that extends throughout the circumpolar area and down to South America. Common cultural characteristics are among several bird dancing (the use of feathers as part of the religious practices was actually common in the pre-Christian Sami religion). The same with bear worship. The similarities are linked to the pre-Christian Sami nature religion, which still makes its mark on the Sami culture today.

Sami culture is very similar to native American. Jojk sounds like native American tribal music. Sami people live in tipis. Both cultures live by the land. Borderless. Heck, real sami people even look native American. I've done some research and they might be related and was separated when the ice over Bering sea melted. Lapland is the land of the Sami and it goes from Northern Norway, through northern Sweden and Finland, until Russia. Jokkmokk in Sweden is their capital. Sami culture are not treated well in either of the four nations.
