Jimmy Ruffin....I remember in South Central in L.A. hearing this song on the radio because that's all we had back then....and I heard this song...and saved my money I got from selling rock candy in the neighbor ....and went down to the record store ...bought the 45 which a small vinyl record...for 50 cents....lol...hahahaha....and I played this songs over and over again...cried on this song over and over again....constantly thinking about loosing my mom and relatives which were alive at the time...but I fell in love with Jimmy Ruffin. Wow. No music like that these days....lol

"Band of Gold" by Freda Payne is an underrated Motown gem!
@laminage
3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't recorded at Motown. It was recorded at Invictus/Hot Wax. The Brian & Eddie Holland and Lamont Dozier who although wrote alot of Hits for Motown left because they felt they weren't allowed to have any say over how Motown was run in a Corporate way. They left and sued Berry Gordy (The President) and Motown for Four Million and Motown Countersued (aka sued them back for 22 Million). Motown also got a Court Order preventing then from writing and producing for other folks. They created their Own Label but most of the acts were One Hit Wonders. Everybody Plays The Fool, by The Main Ingredient (That Cuba Gooding Jr's, Father was in), Give Me Just A Little More Time by Chairman Of The Board and Smiling Faces by The Undisputed Truth as well as "She's Not Just Another Woman" by The Eighth Day.

I remember this song. My big sister exposed me to Motown in the 60's. She's a great sister!
"What becomes of the broken hearted" was covered so many times, but it's just something about Jimmy Ruffin's version that kept me coming back to it.His voice and the musical arrangement is great. That opening beat ,so enjoyable, because you know that voice is coming. He died in 2014 ,but he left us something very special in this song. I listen to it during down times, when stuck inside due to hurricanes. Or times like these.Good music gets you through. Thank you for reacting to this one.
Absolutely Love Love 💕 Love this old song❤Thanku for playing this.
Great melodies, great hooks, great rhythms, and great performances...that’s Motown.
David and Jimmy Ruffin contributed beautifully their music and left legacy songs along the way.
You've done something that I never thought anyone could do. You've made me look forward to Mondays!
I love this song. For me it pairs well with Al Green’s brilliant, heart-wrenching cover of The Bee Gees’ “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.” 😭
Was used in the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes”....perfectly placed in a scene.

Thank you for sharing Jayvee! I have loved this song all my life since a was a few years old! I’m now 45 years old, this song has never lost its beauty or the lyrics sung by the amazing Jimmy Ruffin. Still sounds like it’s being released today despite being over 50 years old ❤️ it so much
Soulful and sad... straight to the heart...I cannot live without this kind of music.....
It makes me so happy to see youngers like you learn what real Singing and music is all about
I was 9 years old when this hit the a m stations! I had a girlfriend we were going steady! Riding the school bus holding hands for 1 1/2 hr she broke up with me for the new guy who just moved in our area they sat in the front of the bus holding hands while I cried and thinking of this song! Wow how the hormones came about during them days! I’m 64 now and still love it!
David Ruffin classic My Whole World Ended . You can feel the emotion from this gentleman.
I'm watching this video a year after but I love the way you feel the music. I love this song.
Is'nt this the best music ever, we had the BEST music growing up, I STILL listen to this alot! Love my MOTOWN!!!
I love Jimmy Ruffin - he was awesome! And I love this song!
One of the best voices ever!
The thing I've always loved about this song which captures the pain of a broken heart so well is the last couple of lines imply that if you keep plugging away there's a light at the end of the tunnel. If you're going through hell, it's best to keep going.
I cry almost every time! ❤
Wow, an oldie but goody for sure! Love this!!! ✌️💕
Well, you fall into these naturally. Please react to "Ball of Confusion" by The Temptations.
Even after all these years, I still remember all the words and memories come rushing back to me from my 15 year old self. Heard it on the radio in heavy rotation. Glad to see you liked it!😍
I have always loved this song. It was very moving and I could feel it. I still can.

I can remember this song while laying under my 1959 bug eye sprite trying to change the U joint with metal in my eyes. The song has Soul. A great companion.
One of those songs that you don't want to end. So powerful.
Awesome song, so powerful, so beautiful. I still get chills listening after it was first released close to 55 years ago.

Another great choice. Classic Motown. Farewell Is A Lonely Sound is another Jimmy Ruffin song you will like.
This is one of Motown's many classic songs. Jimmy also had a hit from "I've Passed This Way Before". To me, also an underappreciated Motown artist....
Man! Didn't know he's David's brother! He got that voice too. No wonder I never forgot this song. I was 5 when this song came out. And somehow always remembered it even the words.
An all time classic, reminds me of school disco's , always played at the end of the night
Just Soul at its very ,very best tremendous record ,by a brilliant artist ,also "Farewell Is A Lonely Sound " is another tearjerker Gem of a sound ,by Jimmy , I think he was very underated, but he's brilliant in my opinion ,pure class ,made loads of great dancers as well
Motown Mondays are the bomb 👍🙌. Great song (s) you've picked for us bro 🎶💃😃
Here we go again guarantee you should like it good voice good vocals I already love it back I the day....
Always loved this song!
Oldies on a Sunday night! You would definitely hear this song. There were 3 Motown writers for this song. Two have since passed away.
This song still tugs at the heartstrings of this 67 year old Caucasian Englishwoman and sends chills down her spine. I love the Colin Blunstone version too.
My favorite Jimmy Ruffin song is his 1980 duet with Marcy Levy WHERE DO I GO written by the Bee Gees.
That song has been called "an opera" and it NEVER ages. I'm so glad you listened to most of it before you commented. Your face was as expressive as the song. Good for you!
Such a beautiful and sad song!
such a great song,
Brilliant music, grew up listening to songs like this, 😊😊👍👍
Two great songs to check out.....hold on to my love.....farewell is a lonely sound, both by Jimmy Ruffin.
As you can see he sounds amazing! The Flower 🌹
David Ruffin - 'My Whole World Ended'
As soon as I read "What becomes of the broken hearted," I heard the melody. I can't remember when I didn't know this song. Glad you're doing Motown Mondays. Motown is a treasure trove of music. Remember that many of these songs are short because they had to fit into a radio format.
FINALLY!!!! I told you would love it! It was too bad that his career didn't move as some of the other artists at Motown. But he held his own. Smokey Robinson co-wrote this hit tune and this was another memory of MOTOWN MAGIK!!! THanks for reacting to this.....
Another great one from my time. ❤️ You always manage to send me on a time trip to my past. 🥰 Thank you.
Oh my gosh this is one of my all time favorite songs. It's sad, but so, so good. Thanks for doing this one!!
I still remember all the words to this song in 2020. I am not senile yet! Great review, thanks!
One of my best ever songs 🥰🥰
Solid Gold. When I was young in the 80s , they would refer to this kind of music as Solid Gold. Now back then as a kid I just thought of it as oldies and little respect. Now I totally understand the term Solid Gold cause it great and still is.
David and Jimmy Ruffin singing "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother " pure class ...and Jimmy singin "Wonderful To Be Loved By You " I could go on and on The Motown Machine so many fantastic songs so little time .....dam ...
I haven't heard this song in a long time. Thanks for sharing.
Ruffin Is great..and this is a great song
Great makes you want to hear another verse! I love the song! Thank you for doing a first reaction on it!
Omg Jay....you brought me back 50+ years, slow dancing at school dances. Love it!
Great artist brilliant singer really look forward to Motown Monday’s
This was pretty much Jimmy's biggest hit. You might enjoy his other minor 1980 hit "Hold On To My Love" which was written & produced by The Bee Gees. They wrote the whole album. Another great tune on that album is "Where Do I Go" (duet with Marcy Levy), "Two People" and "Searching" . Two great soul songs
Your slowly getting to see and listeng to all the great R&B Soul musicians from the earlier years
Havn't heard that song in quite some time. Beautiful...
How come I know all the words to this? ........ I was TWO years old!........ Shows how a really good song stands the test of time. ❤️
Love this , I grew up on Motown. This was the music of my teenage years!❤
