Look how fricken charismatic and gorgeous Bruce is here. He just has that light. He still does today. This band has brought me so much happiness over the years. When I’ve been in a dark place, I would listen to Maiden and it would set off a spark that would make me not want to give up. I might even say it because of music and bands like Maiden thst I am still alive. I really shouldn’t be here right now. But Somehow I am. I survived an armed robbery because I hid under a blanket and because robber couldn’t get the light to turn on. I survived a murder suicide because he forgot about the fax machine after ripping the other phones out of the wall and taking my cell phone. I survived myself because of certain music.

Glad, you did this version Maddy. I feel it's the best one out there. I've been listening to Maiden since 1982. One of the best rock/metal bands to come out of England along with Judas Priest. They don't call Bruce Dickinson the Air Raid Siren for nothing. Iron Maiden current are: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 65 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 67 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 66 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1990 - present Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 71 years), 1982 - present The next songs I'd recommend, in no particular order, when you do Iron Maiden again, are: Fear of the Dark (Live Rock in Rio) Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Flight 666) Where Eagles Dare (Live At Ullevi, Sweden) The Longest Day (about D-Day) Revelations (lyric video) The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001) Dance Of Death - (Live En Vivo!) as well as any of the ones listed below. Of course there are other songs others will recommend, but since this is my list, this is the ones I recommend. One reactor on KZread I helped through his "Maiden Voyage" as we called it, he ended up doing all the songs on their 17 studio albums and most of their cover songs. Now his favorite band. Highlight of songs and what they are about that I'd recommend are: From Iron Maiden album------ Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden) From Killers album------ Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming) Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive) Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer) Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem) Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings) From The Number of the Beast album ------ Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) 22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot) The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2) Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers) Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) From Piece of Mind album ------ Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God) Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) From Powerslave album ------ Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) 2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner) Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage) From Somewhere in Time album------- Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great From 7th Son of a 7th Son album (a concept album)------ Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares) The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated) The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers) From Fear of the Dark album------ Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad) Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one) From Brave New World album------ The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us) Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death) Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley) Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) From Dance of Death album------ No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation) Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) From A Matter of Life and Death------ Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion) Out of the Shadows (About being born)

@@MaddyReactions plenty of heavy metal that is not just constant wailing, plenty that is too, Iron Maiden have a vast catalog well worth exploring, not saying anyone needs to hear every track but certainly a reason why they have millions of dedicated fans and they sell out massive concert venues world wide, and they have been around for decades now, (they just finished a new tour in Europe with the U.S. and elsewhere planned for 2024,) they love their fans and their music and they don't just "phone it in" for the sake of the cash grab, they've achieved this with literally no radio airplay too...check out Dance of Death, Fear of the Dark or Powerslave

Great reaction and thanks for sharing. Bruce on this version was the new lead singer, this concert was played just a few days before the album was released. Luckily, Iron Maiden are one of the few groups that records their albums by playing the track live straight thru. So before its recorded, it is mastered by the entire band playing together so they can reproduce it live on tour. No gimmicks, no autotune, no cuts spliced in. What you see, is what you get. So new singer in a popular band, singing a song none of the audience had heard before and this is what they produced. The musicianship is impeccable. I have seen them in concert multiple times each decade since the 80''s including last summer. Another amazing live performance is 'Fear of the Dark' at Rock in Rio in front of a small intimate crowd of 250,000 Brazilians who don't speak English as their first language, yet sing along better than most English/American crowds. It is breath taking and worth a listen. Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Iron Maiden. Most of their songs are not the typical rock anthem party spiel. Most are based on history, poems, movies, books or personal life. 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' based on a poem. 'Run to the Hills' based on the struggles of the American natives vs the settlers. '2 Minutes to Midnight' based on the doomsday clock and nuke war. 'Number of the Beast' based on a dream the bassist had after watching the movie 'The Omen' about the anti christ. 'Powerslave' based on Egyptian lore. 'Children of the Damned' based on a book/movie. 'Where Eagles Dare' based on a book/movie about world war two. 'The Longest Day' based on the Normandy landings during World War Two (if you watch this, use the video that shows scenes from the movie Saving Private Ryan). I could go on and on. 'The Trooper' based on the charge of the light brigade during the battle of Balaclava during the British/Russian war for the Crimea and the poem. Etc, etc, etc. The rabbit hole is incredibly deep and the level of talent is amazing. 'The Writing on the Wall' is a reference to an ancient incident but shows how it applies to modern times, the video is worth seeing and it was released within the last few years. Forty years after this video was made. Iron Maiden still have an impact on music and a voice. Amazing. Keep up the great reactions. Chris

Iron Maiden's sound is the brainchild of self-taught bass genius Steve Harris (their founder and chief songwriter), and is the result of him, unlike most heavy metal musicians at the era, was not influenced by blues (in fact, he has no interest in blues), but early progressive rock like Genesis, Jethro Tull and Nektar. On the other hand, his all-time favorite band being UFO (and their late great bassist Pete Way his biggest idol), there's also the element of extreme catchiness thrown into the mix. And, last but not least, there are the twin lead guitars, from the playbook of legendary heavy folk rockers Wishbone Ash, and voilà! There you have the unmistakable sound of Iron Maiden. Even today, the band is still a remarkable, energetic and charismatic live act. At 65, Bruce Dickinson (a former elite fencer) is still in great physical and vocal shape. As for the 67-year old Steve Harris, at this year's Sweden Rock Festival, he performed with Iron Maiden and also with his side project British Lion the day before. And what did he to to "relax" after the latter concert? Well, he played a game of soccer with players from a local team and some of my colleagues from a Swedish music magazine. After which he didn't bother checking into a hotel - instead he ran around the festival grounds all day and slept at British Lion's road crew's tour bus. That man is the REAL rock/metal deal. No wonder the band he leads remains one of the biggest, most beloved and influential in the world. Oh yeah - and the entire band still retain their long hair too!

Ohh they sound just as good now approaching age 70 and every year they get more energetic. Over a 100 hits. They got big by word of mouth practically never played on the radio or TV.

What I love about this song? That a prisoner sentenced to death, at the hour of his execution, faces his death with both peace and defiance -- as he lastly shouts out, "Hallowed...Be...THY...NAME!" May we all be so fortunate at the hour of our own death. This singer, Bruce Dickinson, is a direct influence of power metal singer Brittney Slayes of Unleash the Archers. Just like Brittney's karaoke cover of Queensryche's song Queen of the Reich, this song by Bruce Dickinson is so well done -- and just think, when this show happened at the Hammersmith in 1982, this crowd was the first people to hear this song, as it hadn't been released yet!

This is about a man falsely accused and sentenced to death dealing with the stages of grief of his own demise. Great song I love it. You should hear "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden. It's based on a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson about the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854* during the Crimean War. Really shows you a soldier's perspective. Hallowed be Thy (God's) Name I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time 'Cause at 5 o'clock, they take me to the Gallows Pole The sands of time for me are running low Running low, yeah! When the priest comes to read me the last rites Take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me Can it be that there's some sort of error? Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end, not some crazy dream? Somebody, please tell me that I'm dreaming It's not easy to stop from screaming The words escape me when I try to speak Tears flow, but why am I crying? After all, I'm not afraid of dying Don't I believe that there never is an end? As the guards march me out to the courtyard Somebody cries from a cell, "God be with you" If there's a God, why has he let me go? As I walk, my life drifts before me Though the end is near I'm not sorry Catch my soul, it's willing to fly away Mark my words, believe my soul lives on Don't worry now that I have gone I've gone beyond to seek the truth When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion Yeah-yeah-yeah, hallowed be thy name Yeah-yeah-yeah, hallowed by thy name Yeah

They're playing with acdc, tool, metallica, judas priest, guns n roses in Coachella California. I like your assessment on their music especially for someone listening to them for the first time. Check out some of their recent performances. That video was made in the 80s. 😍🔥

E minor, essentially it's a 3 chord song but it's what they do with those three chords that is brilliant. The driving bass and guitar harmonies are signature Maiden. I'm a bass player and musician if about 45 odd years experience, Steve Harris's bass lines aren't the most complex nor the most tricky to play BUT they are tricky to play well and take hundreds of hours practice to get to the metronome accuracy they display. Interestingly, the greatest music is not always the most complex.. look at Mozart after all, highly economical and sometimes staggeringly simple but always devastatingly beautiful. If you ever get the chance to see the Irons, grab it, they are extremely impressive live, probably the best live band I have ever seen including the Stones, U2, Deep Purple, the Police, Kiss etc.. their mastery of their instruments is legendary. As their whole career is based on live performances, their songs never get mainstream radio, they are too long, focus on the live performance and touring has more in common with the Classical model than it does rock or pop

Hey Maddy. New to your reactions and loving them! Great choice for a taste of live Iron Maiden. Very serious and fun band to listen to. Their live performances are always spectacular. Bruce Dickinson, a well-rounded individual, a talented singer and performer along with being a superb athlete and pilot of the band's Boeing 747 & 757 to and from their gigs. He helped transport troops and military types in Afghanistan and middle east in the early 2000's. Now that he's 65 he legally can't pilot these planes because of airline restrictions. He had a chance to play pro soccer when he was younger. Unfortunately, he recently had throat cancer surgery, but has worked himself back into vocal shape for more touring. "Mark of the Beast" and "Run for the Hills" are also great live performance videos if you care to review them. Goid Luck and have fun Maddy!

Iron Maiden is the classic British heavy metal band, mixed w/ progressive and 70's rock influences... which makes them unique in so many ways... Bruce Dickinson (vocals) was nicknamed 'Air Raid Siren' for his high range vocals, and he was not a trained singer at all... Dickinson was in another UK metal band called Samson in 1979 - '81 before he joined Iron Maiden and replaced their original vocalist Paul Di'Anno... It was Maiden's producer (the late) Martin Birch who pushed him hard in the studio to expand his vocal range and that was what made Maiden's 3rd album in 1982 ('The number of the Beast') a huge hit (This was filmed in 1982 on Bruce Dickinson's first tour w/ Iron Maiden). Steve Harris (bass) who formed Iron Maiden as a local pub band in London in 1975, wrote 'Hallowed be thy name' in '82 about the mindset of a condemned man in his final hour before his execution... it became a Maiden classic in concert to this day 🔥🔥🤘🤘 A quick history of Iron Maiden: Steve Harris (bass) started writing his own songs and opted to form Iron Maiden in 1975 so that he could play the original songs... The band went through numerous members in their pub years... Dave Murray (guitar) joined full-time in 1977 and is still w/ Maiden today... Original vocalist Paul Di'Anno was gruff, punk rock-style singer who gave Maiden an edge in concert... The band recorded demos in 1978 and were finally signed in 1979... Clive Burr (drums) and Dennis Stratton (2nd guitar) joined to record the first Iron Maiden album in 1980, which shocked everyone by charting at #4 in the UK... Adrian Smith (2nd guitar) replaced Stratton for the 2nd album 'Killers' in 1981 and Iron Maiden toured America and Asia for the first time... Their use of a character on their album covers as a mascot was named 'Eddie the Head' - a skeletal ghoul w/ hollow eyes, who appeared in various forms on every Iron Maiden record and t-shirt. Unfortunately, the stress of touring led to Paul Di'Anno leaving Iron Maiden in '81... Bruce Dickinson (vocals) joined and his first Maiden album 'The number of the Beast' (1982) became a #1 UK chart hit and a platinum album in the US... Dickinson's voice took out the rough edges of Maiden's sound w/ Di'Anno's vocals and streamlined their delivery... Nicko McBrain (drums) joined in 1983 and Iron Maiden were headlining arenas worldwide in the 80's as albums like 'Powerslave' (1984) and 'Somewhere in time' (1986) sold platinum worldwide. In 1989, Adrian Smith left the band and Janick Gers (2nd guitar) joined in 1990... but after 9 studio albums, Bruce Dickinson announced in 1993 that he was leaving Iron Maiden for a solo career... Blaze Bayley (vocals) joined and Iron Maiden released 2 albums w/ him. Unfortunately, the 90's grunge rock scene and the absence of Bruce Dickinson on vocals diminished Iron Maiden's popularity; they were literally playing clubs to survive in 1998... Bruce Dickinson's solo career also failed to sell after 5 albums. He and Adrian Smith (guitar) were playing Maiden songs in concert again by 1997. In 1999, Iron Maiden opted to fire Blaze Bayley (who went on to a solo career) ... and reunited w/ both Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith (which made Iron Maiden a 3-guitar band that year)... The band released 'Brave New World' (2000) and reintroduced themselves to a new generation of metal fans... Their songs became longer and more epic over the next 2 decades, and the albums like 'A matter of life and death' (2006) and 'The Final Frontier' (2010) made the US top 10 charts for the first time in Maiden's career. Iron Maiden has been in business over 40 years and is still touring successfully... their latest album was 'Senjutsu' in 2021. Check out more Iron Maiden classics - 'Wasted years' ... '2 minutes to midnight'... 'Phantom of the Opera' ... 'Run to the hills'... 'The Evil that men do'... 'Fear of the dark' (live version)... 'The Clansman' ... 'Blood brothers'... 'The Wickerman' ... 'Dance of death'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
