I'll never understand why some people choose to listen to a song for the first time in the live version, in my opinion that's just to appreciate the performance of a song one already knows.

Yes… Enya is singing in “Quenya”… an elvish language created by the Author of the LOTR trilogy.

Enya is a Celtic musical artist. She sings as you would expect in some songs like this one but as you go into her catalog, you will find songs she sings in a voice-as-instrument style which is a popular Celtic traditional method. In this style her voice will not stand out from the rest of the music, but rather will blend into the music.

Love Enya's music. It is so calming & peaceful. I have a few of her cds. Enya is an Irish singer, songwriter & musician known for pioneering modern Celtic music. In 1970 several members of Enya's family formed "Clannad" a Celtic folk band. She later went solo in the 80's. She has so many beautiful songs such as "Only Time", "Orinoco Flow", "Caribbean Blue", "March Of The Celts" etc.

It is only half the song, shortned so it could be played live during the 2001 Academy Awards. Also you can tell Enya was very nervous in singing live as dhe stopped doing live performances after she broke off from her original band Clannad in 1986. She's a studio artist, not a stage animal. Her voice is amazing, behind the stufio wizardry she has great range. While technically a mezzosoprano, in reality she can go full soprano but also fing in low male ranges as well. She is dlso a very technically gifted composer for synthizers while also a multi-instrumentalist on a variety of traditional instruments. Like as if Vangelis as a girl that could also sing very well.

Enya comes from the same part of Ireland as myself. Co Donegal .... She epitomises femininity and beauty in today's world . Donegal is full of talented artists.☘️

Enya sings quite "sean nós" which means 'in the old way' in Irish. This instrumentation in the music, we don't really know if it came from Iberian Celts, or further back even. Not sure. I'm glad you enjoyed though! You should definitely check out more of her music and/or Clannad, which was a band she sung with.

Honestly, if you are looking for traditional Enya - as was mentioned listen to Orinoco Flow or Caribbean Blue.

She was so nervous here, she doesn't really perform live. She said in an interview a day or two before this performance that she was really nervous...it showed but that's life. Listen to Orinico Flow, Caribbean Blue, Only Time.

These are among her very best and are an eclectic mix and representation of Enya's work. "Only Time" won her a World Music award for best song in the world. Right after 9/11, the year Enya won and performed it live, a remix of it was made and it was released as a single with ALL the proceeds made from it going to the New York Firefighters. She lives a quiet low profile life and once in a while releases an incredible album. Appears only to promote it and quietly disappears for some time. I am always eager for the next album. I am mesmerized by her and love every single album she releases. She is incredible.

I love Enya, and I love your reaction to hearing her sing! Personally, my favorite of hers if "Flora's Secret" but I don't know if it hit any charts. Only Time is a classic. The Humming is from her latest album. Wild Child is also wonderful 😊

The language is Gaelic. She is celtic and her music is beautiful beyond description. I wish she would release new stuff, I have her entire discography. Love this!

It is not Gaelic. It is in an Elvish dialect made up by Tolkien, the writer of Lord of the Rings.

That's her mother tongue. In this song she sings in english with two dhort verses in sidirian, an invented language by Tolkien for the High Elves of his Lord Of The Rings work, which does have elements of both gaelic and old finnish.
