A little fun story: This song came out in 2002, before the movie 8 Mile, and it was a huge hit. The movie producer (or whoever) told Em that they were going to use this song as a soundtrack because he could not make a bigger hit song, but Eminem was like "hold my beer" and he went and wrote Lose Yourself.

Source???? The Eminem Show was done. Em then moved onto helping produce Cheers and GRODT and was always intended to write original music for a soundtrack. The original song intended to be the official song was 8 mile.....as in the SONG 8 mile...from the 8 mile soundtrack......but Em was dissatisfied and thought he could do better so wrote Lose Yourself between takes. I've never at any point heard anyone ever claim COMC had any involvement with 8 mile.

He was angry because he had a little brother that also suffered abuse and was put into the foster care system, he does mention him in at least one of his songs. He doesn't perform Cleaning Out My Closet anymore, I have seen articles that say they have somewhat mended their relationship. Child abuse can continue through generations, he didn't do that, he made beauty with pain. He is an artist of the lifetime.

He brought up Munchausen Syndrome. A terrible disorder for the people around the person who has it, especially if it's the form Munchausen By-Proxy, which I believe he is describing. First i gotta say, i love your channel. I’m a 51 year old white lady who loves all kinds of music especially rap and rock. It’s super fun to watch ya’ll react to so many of my faves. As a mother Eminem’s lyrics break my heart. I know he wouldn’t appreciate the sympathy but dang. Fyi - Munchausen’s Syndrome is a mental condition where a person repeatedly seeks medical attention for another person for symptoms that are falsified, exaggerated, or deliberately induced. So…she was putting poison in his food and taking him to the dr or hosp.❤
Love the fact you all recognise and appreciate his story telling! You should do 'guilty conscience' and 'headlights'
Cleanin out my closet is Eminems deepest heart felt song in my opinion. I know he hates this song now because him and his mom are good now, But it still doesent change the fact that he felt this way at 1 time in his life. You can just hear the pain in his voice and any rapper that put that much pain In a song would not wanna hear it or perform it anymore. 💔 Em is a GOAT 🐐 I'm glad he made peace with his mom 🙏

Hhaha yes, my parents got so angry when i bought the slim shady lp in the year 2000. At a flea market in serbia. My aunt backed me up and said "no no, this is a Really good artist" to my parents so I could keep the cd 😅
I bought my first Eminem album when I was 11 with my Xmas money and related and adored it so much. The humour, the honesty and the emotions. This track hit home for me and I honestly don’t share the same reaction as everyone else. It used to shock me that this song shocks people. But now I’m nearly 30 I realise that not everyone has had a difficult upbringing and experienced childhood trauma. The thing is, you’re imaging saying those things about your parents who are probably nice and caring people. But having a parent who abuses you is not the same. In that situation you are an innocent child who deserves better. Eminem knows that and has given better when he has become a parent himself. This isn’t a blanket hate against parents, it’s an honest portrayal of thoughts and feelings looking back on a broken childhood.
this song is one of the reasons eminem has such a loyal fanbase...em has always been so open about what he's been through and transparent about everything
This song and this entire album got me thru a lot of shit when I was coming up. Im 37. Extremely abusive home life. This video/song still plays In my flash back nightmares to this day. And I smile when I wake up.

Em's mom's name is Debbie Mathers. On his first (signed) album, he says, "99% of my life I was lied to. I just found out my mom does more dope than I do. I told her I'd grow up to be a famous rapper, make a record about doing drugs and name it after her." His mom sues him for $10million for that line.. and only ends up winning $1,377 or something like that from the suit. 2nd (signed) album, he says, "My f*****g b***h mom tried to sue me for 10 million. She must want a dollar for every pill I've been stealing". Third album, he says, "I just settled all my lawsuits; FUCK YOU DEBBIE!" Growing up, his mom would tell him that he was sick with munchausen syndrome, and would put prescription drugs in his food, as well as other toxic stuff. If you read up about it, it was a hard upbringing. By the way, I'm 39 (grew up while all this was going on), and I also watch the channel for the generational gap. It’s so hard to fathom talking bad about Mama in the blk community because we hold them up like a deity. I respect ‘‘em for showing even mama can be wrong sometimes.
You all discovering and appreciating good music is awesome 🤙
New subscriber 🙋🏻♀️ IMO Eminem is a lyrical genius. The words he rhymes together are next level. And the way he channeled his pain into all his lyrics just blows my mind. He will always be one of the GOATs to me. Have you reacted to “Kim” off of Marshall Mathers LP? Or “My 1st Single” off Encore? Or “Untitled” off Recovery? Those are a few of my favorites that I’d love to see you guys react to because the first time I heard them I was like “Wait, what?” And then left them on repeat until I caught it all 😂
Originally, a rap song was made of the classic 16 bars. The bar phase is almost like a line. Bar is like the segment or sentence. When people say, now that was a bar it was meant a good bar or line. But it became accepted to mean that bar had a scheme , wordplay or metaphor or entandre that stood out. Rap evolved to 32, 46, 64 bars etc as rappers started saying more or faster. There's many rappers that reference it. Giving a cool 16." I was gonna stop at 16, that was 32. This is 34 bars were only a 3rd the way through" Em-Mariah diss. It refers to lyrical lines in the rap

I’m 57 and I love watching you guys! Hilarious! Makes my fricken day every time.
Space Bound, Guts Over Fear and Sing For The Moment are amazing. You also need to react to the Rap God lyrics!

Haters gunna hate! The reason I watch you guys, other than being a Louisiana alum go Cajuns 🤟🏼, is your reactions to Em are authentic. Being a white kid growing up listening to Eminem, your reactions are exactly like mine were as a kid hearing him for the first time! You guys are great and don’t stop doing what y’all doing! ✊🏼
Hope Eminem finally heard his snare 😂

The part where she’s putting stuff in his food is something he talks about in a couple of his songs. His mom probably suffered from Münchausen syndrome by proxy. It’s a psychological condition where the parent wants to take care of their kids so they poison them to purposefully make them sick. Gypsy Rose is one of the best known cases, she has a Netflix special if you’re interested in seeing some crazy shit.

Yep! And I came here to say that was pine-sol. The bottle would look different today, because it was supposed to be made like the bottle was in the 70's. So unless you saw a 70's bottle, you would be thinking of how the bottle looks today.

@@sufio454 I spent like 20 mins making sure before I posted that comment and just checked again. The old bottles had the words pine-sol next to each other on a funky dark green label. This bottle in the video has "sol" underneath "pine" just like the modern bottle. It also has a red banner toward the bottom of the bottle which the old bottles did not have. All of that is pretty obvious if you actually do a comparison so I don't get why your trying to correct me.
He produced the beat🔥🔥🔥
I never listened to Em either so it's fun for me to first watch with you guys, thank you! I was way more into ICP and Tech N9ne back then. I just learned in your video though that Eminem is older than me and I ALWAYS thought he was younger! 😂 I feel slightly less old, now thank you again lol
Allright thanks for clearing that up, cause I was reading those comments and starting to buy into that. But I believe you on your word 😂😂🙏🏻
So wild to watch yall react and to realize how old this music is now at 34. Apart of what made him the greatest rapper besides shock factor is the fact that he added Choruses to rap and tone change, he changed the structural sound of rap and as you said in another video the music.. sounded like him. If you go back even further in the rap music world, you'll see his true influence in the industry... Interesting note in interview Em said this song happens to be the one he regrets most
Y’all keep doin what y’all are doin. Every fan base has toxic members. Love y’all’s reactions. I appreciate y’all bein authentic
There are so many layers of life on every Soul that you meet. "Judge not, lest ye be judged."

I can't tell you all how much I love you all! Dissecting lyrics, appreciating beats, going deep into the meanings, your love of the adventure of all genres of music.
Yes, Em was protested across the country. That’s why he came out with “Who Knew”. It was a diss to his critics, media, parents & politicians about their hypocrisy.
You guys react and we love what you do!!
Love y'all all discovering
I have always been an Eminem fan but I remember back when this song came out I can remember thinking how could someone hate their mom that much. Fast forward to a few years later hearing him say the line I am dead to you as can be hits me differently in this song when you hear the same words come from your own mother saying they wish I was dead after my daughter passed away lead me to the biggest depression and I can admit drug and alcohol problem I could ever have and I know other people may say this but I can honestly say if it was not for Eminem and his music I would honestly be dead right now the words in his music saved my life when I had no where else to turn. People can try to cancel Eminem all they want to but if Congress and Washington couldn't do it dumb butts online that have possibly really never listened to his music won't be able to do it his has way to loyal and large of a fan base
You are all, amazing, funny, and genuine. It is incredible to see your reactions to all kinds of music that I grew up with. You make me feel like I am hearing it again for the first time. Keep doing what you're doing 🤘

Too much controversy, and too many stupid people who just didn’t get the point or the message of the song. Skill wise though, Darkness was the equivalent of building the Eiffel Tower out of playing cards during a tornado and having it be untouched by the wind. Double, triple, quadruple entendres on top of one another. Absolute lyrical masterpiece. And the sampling of ‘The Sound of Silence’ was perfectly matched.
I believe you guys when you say you ain’t heard it. Love your videos keep it up and being authentic
Love you guys energy ❤️
Thank you for your time and energy we appreciate it you're one of the few who actually listen to their fans so thank you we support you unconditionally

This song came out before I was even a teen and I can really remember how good the storytelling was because it plays on my head like a movie.
Crazy I grew up on him and watching your videos I’m just catching bars he said!! I grew up on all of them lil Wayne everyone and you won’t always catch every bar the first time you hear a song!
I respect your response to people saying you faking. You get my deepest respect because you show real enjoyment to diff music genres
You guys are doing just fine. Just be you. There will always be those that are judgemental. Love your reactions.❤
I'm from Lafayette ad well, these guys are amazing !🌹
I just recently found this channel and I love it! Y’all are hilarious. I also believe y’all when you say you didn’t grow up listening to Eminem, because of y’all being young. I am the same age as Eminem so I DID listen to him a lot and even went to see him in concert in Dallas about 18 years ago! …Also, I noticed the Rajun Cajun jacket and was wondering if y’all live in Lafayette? I live in the Alexandria area and my sister lives in Youngsville.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥...this sound actually got me into the whole genre of rap. heard this on the radio.....was FLAMEZZZZ, bought The Eminem Show, and fell in love with rap, and put rock on the side. Bought rest of Em's stuff, and became a Stan. Love the channel!

I wasn't an eminem fan until The Eminem Show. Someone told me its different from his other stuff. I didn't like his first albums. I thought he was just a comedy rapper. Soon as I heard the first song on the that CD(soldier) I was hooked. Went and bought his previous albums and it's been a wrap since. I'm still not into his political side.
You guys are great! By the way “Cleaning out my closet” is an expression that means telling your secrets or expressing how you feel.
I’m so glad you brought up about who grows up listening to what and who’s heard what. Man I’m telling you all , I’m a 49 year old white guy from upstate NY, I grew up listening to all types of music. For most of my pre teen years I lived in a neighborhood where me and my brother were the only white kids on the block and that’s no exaggeration. I was born in 73 so this was in the early to mid 80’s when rap was first getting big, where I lived, kids were going to the neighborhood boys club and battling, break dancing. The days of L.L , The Beastie Boys, I personally couldn’t break dance, but sure tried. Meanwhile my father was rockin out Michael Jackson, Shaka Kahn, Lionel Richie. So I was exposed to alot of different music and people that today, the life I live , the people I know wouldn’t believe me. At this point I’ve listened to so much different music that there honestly isn’t much music or groups, bands that I haven’t at least heard, but that’s after almost 50 years of life and now my son is 24 and I get to hear everything he has come across and of course he loves all my favorite music, Rap, blues, southern rock, most any music that moves you or evokes emotion! To me music is true, real deal magic!! The only thing on the planet that can transport you to a specific place and time in your life and remind you how you felt at that time, crazy!! Most people who look at me today wouldn’t have a clue what I have or haven’t heard and vibed to!! I can completely understand where you all are coming from. Look at my profile picture and tell me the mental picture you get? It isn’t what you think, that’s 100% ! Thanks again guys! Really enjoy your reactions and the music you haven’t heard. I can only hope to suggest some more great music maybe you haven’t heard and can enjoy as I have. So many great memories being at concerts, blasting music in my car, remembering my father play his first cd when cd technology first came out!! That cd was Michael Jackson, and I’m not lying when I say my father could move just like Michael and I know you’ve heard this before but I’m not kidding and anyone who knew him would tell you the same. Hey thanks again guys for bringing back some great memories for me. Take care.
