They aren’t an accompaniment. Some of the albums came out first. They also can be regarded on their own merits. Claudio has stated over and over that he was too shy to write about himself straight forward so he wrote about his life, experiences, thoughts through his characters. This song in particular is about the breakup with his girlfriend who he thought was done for good, then later became his wife, Chandra. It is easier to understand the meanings of some of the songs if your read the comics.

Coheed and Cambria is legitimately one of THE most unique bands in existence EVER. They tell a legit full length story throughout all of their albums and songs from comics made by the lead singer. It takes a lot of patience and hours to listen to every record to get the full story experience but it’s so incredibly worth it. I have every single album and song and it’s just so amazing every time I go back to any of their records. “Toys” and “Everything Evil” are 2 of my absolute favorites. They are just so dam good. From what I understand they get a lot of inspiration from bands like Queen and Kiss. They are a concept band and I highly recommend them to everyone although I do understand it’s hard for some ppl to get “into” them. I’ve had a few friends that heard a couple songs and were like “na not my cup of tea” but then pushing them further they change their minds lol. Truly one of the best bands of our time

Absolute truth. While they do take inspiration from many many bands. My favorite quote from Claudio back in the second stage turbine Era when asked what inspired their sound he just goes "rush and iron maiden". Which the song 2113 is a direct homage to 2112 by rush.

I love Coheed to death, my absolute favorite band of all time, but I wouldn't call them metal. I can agree on prog, but really they're more like prog lite most of the time. But one fascinating thing about them is how they merge so many different influences and styles together in a way that no one can fully agree on their genre. I've heard them called metal, prog rock, hard rock, pop rock, post hardcore, emo . . . Really, I think they're an amalgamation of all of that, but mostly I'd put them under the umbrella of prog rock.

Important to recognize their live performances are a separate entity to their studio albums. Their albums are meticulously crafted almost like a cinematic soundtrack due to how the songs actually came about in the first place, whereas the live performances are more rock-out-oriented. Their songs are based off a running story called The Amory Wars that the band has made. There is a graphic novels series that serves as accompaniment to each and every song, which is why the lyrics are so specific. Absolutely a creative powerhouse of a band.

The Good Apollo I show, which has this song and a 17 minute jam on The Final Cut is probably one of the best live music documents out there. It was recorded during the period where they had Chris Pennie from Dillinger Escape Plan as their drummer.

I remember this so perfectly. I was a huge dillinger escape fan and as Im also a drummer I was really excited to see what Chris would add to Coheed.

9:23 That drummer is hitting 8 beats on the kick per measure, including the off-beats before and after the snare. Yeah, he's busting ass.

The lead singer also performs an acoustic version of their song Atlas in his house (it's awesome). It was named for his son.

I love when your videos pop up in my feed. It takes me back when I first heard these songs. Sometimes I take this music for granted and forget how amazing it is. I am talking about Coheed and music in general. Thank you.

"I'm offended!" \m/ Someone has excellent taste, and yes, they do have a Led Zeppelin sound to them. This song in particular, does remind you of "Kashmir," which P Diddy remixed with Jimmy Page and made the song "Come With Me" for the "Godzilla" soundtrack.

They were transcendent. Im so happy you loved this! They've got an incredible catalogue, plenty to feed your head

They're a mix of mainly prog rock (especially this album onwards) emo, post punk and metal. There's not many songs that sound like them because they borrow influence from so many different genres of rock music and include loads of nods to its mainstream history (Led Zepellin, Rush, Queen, Dio) and it's fringes (Post hardcore, emo and punk). The rest of the album that this song is from (Good Apollo) is very heavily concept based, and some of the songs are really dense with references to a wider science fiction story (basically this song is from the PoV of the God of the world sung about in the previous albums, who is both God and also a guy in New Mexico writing the story while losing his mind because his girlfriend walked out. At one point the satanic ghost of his stolen bike comes back to haunt him, telling him that he has to kill off one of the main characters in the story because she's based on his girlfriend who is definitely cheating on him anyway. It's both very tongue in cheek (a line "You say a lot of things, and how does that work? You're a bicycle!" is sung) and weirdly dark. If you liked this, I'd recommend a lot of stuff from The Afterman double album - but most noted (for me) is Gravity's Union, Domino the Destitute and The Afterman title track. The album's story is much easier to grasp from the lyrics, and most of the songs are self contained narratives about specific events and people whose lives the main character experiences while... erm... journeying through a cosmic life force that holds the solar system together. All this isn't to say they're a novelty band, far from it. They aim to make fun music but all the songs are written based on real ideas and feelings that are then filtered through into the story.

I always thought this song and maybe a couple others actually had a very Trans-Siberian Orchestra type of feel, minus the Christmas Carols. But this one’s riffs are similar to one of the carols they do I just cannot think of which one for the life of me.

Na, that doesn't even make sense. Good Apollo 1 is essentially a breakup album. When he says that, he's talking about Chondra (the premise), because it was the real-life turmoil of the relationship between Chondra and Claudio that fueled the writing of the album.
