Chase and Status are the two old white guys in the video. They are Drum & Bass producers. Top of their field in the UK. They’ve worked with some amazing artists over the years ( 20 years). Drum & Bass came out of the UK dance scene in the 90’s. It’s Mama is Jungle. It’s Papa is Breakbeat. It’s aunts and uncles are Jazz, Reggae, Ragga, Dancehall, Acid house….it’s a massive family tree with links everywhere! Great to see it reach over the pond to an appreciative audience. Try Jungle. It’s a huge back catalogue but for beginners, you’ve got to listen to ‘Incredible’ by M Beat and General Levy. Love your reactions! Love your enthusiasm!

I knew somebody would know facts I was gonna comment this myself trigga's O.G

This is Drum and Bass, coming from the very similar sound of Jungle which itself came out of the hardcore rave scene, dub and dancehall, with a bit of acid house, jazz and hip hop mixed in for good measure. Drum and Bass was from the UK and was most popular here but also took off internationally and was big throughout Europe and rhe commonwealth. A bit randomly, there was also a GREAT d&b scene in Brazil where some incredible bangers were produced. As a side note, the reason Grime sounds so different to any US rap is that it followed on from drum and bass and garage (UKG) sounds with a fair few mcs crossing over. More recently drum and bass and dubstep had alot of counter influence. Dubstep itself originated in Croydon on the southern border of London and Surrey, taking choppy electro sounds from Roots Dub and drum and bass but at the same 140bpm as Grime. Again, mcs were crossing over between Grime and Dubstep. Dubstep went global including the states but Grime stayed mainly UK, Europe and somewhat found an audience in the commwealth. The US is only just starting to figure out that there has been a whole distinct musical culture coming out of the UK with several 🔥🔥🔥 genres which are appreciated around the world but the US has slept on for decades. Ironically, its taken UK MCs absolutely smashing it with mutual genres like Drill and Hip Hop for US audiences to take notice of UK spitters, then realising theres a whole new world of rap and bangers out here fir you guys to catch up with!

The cool thing about DnB is … 90 percent of MCs and DJs are still performing and making bangers 20 years down the line so it’s completely acceptable for a 40+ year old to go out and mash up the Dance floor !! You go to a rave a half the people are middle aged people mashing up the place! Kind of like a older person going to a Kenny Rogers concert!!

I got in to DnB around the time Chase and Status just started to make it. There were so many great DnB artists around, and i was riding the wave and loving it. I cant believe that Chase and Status are still killing it all these years later. But IMO it was the golden age of DnB. Shy Fx, Andy C, Sub focus, Hazard and DJ Hype were just a few of the artists that helped take DnB to another level

So Flowdan and Irah are grine MC's that clearly have the talent to cross genre's. There is a lot of crossover from drum and bass to uk garage, grime and dubstep. Recommend listening to a few Flowdsn songs, he raps over some deep, dark and atmospheric instrumentals that border dubstep and grime.
