BTW, Sohyang never accepts money for her performances. She believes her voice is a gift from God and so she will go on TV to perform but she never accepts money for it. It's the main reason she has never released an album; she believes she shouldn't profit from her gift. But she will appear on TV for free.

And as far as I'm concerned, not to speak of commercial performances she's got some albums and singles including the CCM band "POS" that she belonged to. My understanding is that she just doesn't want to make a big money or fame. That's why she's turned down the many big contracts offered from the companys around the world. If I am not right, please let me know.

Yes, Sohyang is very fluent in English. It takes her about half a minute to make the transition from thinking in Korean to thinking in English but she is one awfully talented lady when it comes to languages and communicating! 😉

She and a small team do all of the arrangements for her stage appearances; musical arrangement, orchestra, chorus, and staging. Not a sound or a light occurs on that stage without her personal touch. She is an Author, Actress, Composer, Arranger, and University Lecturer. She is a musical genius, a virtuoso, and the finest Soprano alive. But, she is not world famous by choice. Hi Dave, I watched a very recent interview with Sohyang a month or two ago and the interviewer asked her about her French language skills. It was the one where she was travelling somewhere in a taxi. Anyway, Sohyang said that French literature was what she majored in during university but she is not at all fluent in it and only reads it tolerably well. She compared her fluency in it to saying "Je ne sais pas" in French (I don't know), and laughed heartily! Someone from Korea told me that a few years ago, but seeing Sohyang admit she would be lost at sea trying to make her way in Paris or Montreal, (my own words there), was a bit humorous. ​@@ToddSauve Hi Todd. Well, I stopped using the word 'fluent' which was probably wise. She has little opportunity to exercise Her French. It gets rusty for everyone who learns a language, but doesn't use it. I suspect she is also being modest, as is her demeanor. She IS a genius, so it is not surprising that she also reads Greek as part of her work in writing and teaching from the Bible. That new video of her singing the theme for the TV Series is breathtaking. I'm enamored, but she just gets more beautiful before our very eyes. Regarding Florida, I'm still shopping for the right place. I have looked at over 25 on the Internet and made offers on two, but cancelled both due to repairs. I'll get there. I dragged the bar back thinking I had somehow missed the beginning, but no, there is none. This was on Immortal Songs 2, a long running Korean celebrity singing show. Korean stages are always spectacular in some way. Sohyang is a south Korean gospel singer, cancer survivor and author. Sohyang does speak English.

Folk singer Paul Simon wrote this classic song in 1969 and recorded it with his singing partner, Art Garfunkel, in 1970. The song has been recorded by numerous artists from Elvis Presley to Aretha Franklin. You have witnessed a small sample of the flexibility in the PHENOMENAL So Hyang's voice. Her vocal range is RIDICULOUS, and her breath control is IMSANE. This event was in 2015,when she was 37 years old. So Hyang is now 46 years old. Not only is she aging in reverse, but her voice sounds better than ever in 2024, if that's even possible.

She speaks English as well as you and I. She has become known by many vocal coaches as THE BEST female vocalist on the planet. She can sing anything from classical to pop to rap. She was well trained by a man on LA who was Michael Jackson’s vocal coach. The man’s name has slipped my mind upon typing this out. I have been following her for the last 10 years. Her live performances are so clean they sound like a studio recording.

We all wonder if Sohyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself, with the input of her in-law family and musical assistants, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages: Korean, English, Vietnamese and Chinese, as well as reading French and Greek! Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all eagerly worked with her when they were in Asia. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ppmTrpuolsu7pJs.html She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere! Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on KZread and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted Sohyang and went to Japan in order to have her perform eight concerts with him at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. @@performanceinitiative Yes, when is the last time you saw a Super Star walk away from fortune and fame to follow a path of service to others? Never I suspect. Sohyang is just extraordinary in so many ways, and we all love her! Sohyang did her first concert in North America in five years last October at the Pechanga resort in southern California, and has another scheduled for Dallas, Texas this coming August or September (it is still being negotiated) so she never launches a Taylor Swift style tour of the world though she could easily put Swift in the shade and everyone knows it. Her health prevents her from doing anything gruelling like that and she is convinced this is one of God's ways of keeping her humble. 💖💖💖

Sohyang (pronounced as “So-Young”) she is from South Korea. I’m 73 years old and to me she is the greatest singer I’ve ever heard in my life. She not only a great singer but a beautiful person both inside and out. She first began singing in her local community, with no aspirations of pursuing a career as a professional singer. She was offered numerous contracts from major record companies, but she turned them down, because it would interfere with the plans God had for her. She is a devout Christian and has said that her goal in life is to use her voice to comfort people who are going through difficult times. She knows what hard times is like, her parents divorced when she was in her third year of high school and due to this, she experienced a lot of financial difficulties and was often very sad and she said that it was music that helped her through these difficult times. At the age of twenty she got married and soon after was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which she was able to survive, and she gives the credit to God. She is also an author of children books since 2013. Another thing is that she does all the arrangements for the songs she sings. SHE IS THE BEST EVER

Sorry to say this, that pronunciation "so-young" is not correct. Absolutely there sounds H, it is clearly present in Korean language. I remember there is a youtube video in which the pronunciation of her first name "So-Hyang" is kindly presented. Please refer to it if you're interested. Suggesting reluctantly, "Zo Hee+aang" is even closer to original Korean where Hee+aang should be pronounced just like only 1 syllable or word. Trust me, I'm Korean-native. Of course, you're entitled to do it for convenience.

Great reaction. She is a devout Christian and a cancer survivor and I think because of that she has a different type of energy she puts into her covers she performs. It's even more meaningful and personal. She is a CCM and gospel artist so you will definitely hear that also.

Sohyang is amazing! Im glad you are starting to discover Asian tapents like her, Morissette Katrina, Cakra Khan etc. Chk out Filipino singer Gigi De Lana. A lot of reactors react to her. U can start with THROUGH THE FIRE (Chaka Khan), FLY ME TO THE MOON, BETTER DAYS (Diane Reeves), ALL I ASK (Adele). She & her band Gigi Vibes are versatile & can do songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s, to the present.

After being completely healed by God and her doctors, So Hyang's goal has been to use her voice to bring comfort to people who are experiencing difficult times. In addition to being a published author of several fiction books, she lectures about singing and vocal techniques at a South Korea university. 김소향 (Kim, So-hyang) is a South Korean singer who uses 소향 (Sohyang) as her stage name. She's up there with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Céline Dion, according to David Foster, who worked with all of them, plus other big names in the music industry, such as Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. In fact, many vocal coaches and critics call her the Queen, and Dimash the King. Here are several links to excellent performances by Sohyang. Many are from competitions where she pulls out all the stops and goes into vocal beast mode. The last 5 are more restrained. He co-arranged and produced it for Whitney for her album, and her performance in "The Bodyguard". Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, including 3 for Producer of the Year, and has been nominated a total of 47 times. § Her full name is "김소향 (Kim, So-hyang)", but she leaves out her surname in her stage name, "소향 (Sohyang)". Here's the breakdown of the Hangul symbols in her full name: 김소향 (Kim, So-hyang) 김 = ㄱ ㅣ ㅁ (k i m) 소 = ㅅ ㅗ (s o) 향 = ㅎ ㅑ ㅇ (h ya ng) Google Translate in Detect Language mode pronounces them decently. However, the proper pronunciation of her stage name can be heard before the start of her Immortal Songs 2 performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", when the host introduces her as "SOH hee-yahng". The "hee" part is very quick and subtle, almost like a puff of air after the "h" sound carried over from the stressed "SOH" syllable. Note that the "ahng" sound uses the first and last phonemes (syllable components) of "awe" and "song", respectively; it isn't "uhng" or "ohng" as too many non-Korean folks claim.

I checked your reactions, maybe your algorithm is already recommending Forestella to you. I recommend Scarborough Fair from the same show Immortal Songs, from same singers Simon&Garfunkel. Usually I recommend Bohemian Rhapsody by Forestella, but to see Immortal Songs version you need to see longer video of 3 Queen songs. Since you asked for other songs and or singers, I have to recommend an amazing Chinese singer by the name of Zhou Shen also known as Charlie. He is one of the top singers in China right now. He has the most beautiful ethereal voice sounds like a musical instrument. Speak six languages sings it 12 right now, sing like a soprano in an opera to rock music to traditional folk songs. You name it he does it perfect pitch and emotional delivery. Check out his song, floating lights, ring the doorbell, and listen to yourself, song of Heaven‘s island, China, in lights, Listen, mirage. His catalogue of performances is huge. Over 80 movie soundtracks alone.

I've listened to lengthy interviews in English with Sohyang and she doesn't have any problems conversing fluently in English. It takes her half a minute or so to shift gears from Korean to English and only infrequently does she take a few seconds searching for the word she wants. But go to the interviews in my bio of her Tom and see for yourself.

Sorry bit to showy and screechy for me . Recommend you check out Lucy Thomas (Music) her voice is so rich and controlled her version is a masterclass on how to sing this iconic song. When you visit her channel you will see many masterful iconic cover's she has been uploading since the age of 12, (now 20) and just performed her first concert. New musical "Rosie" coming later this year..
