read the lyrics they are good, sometimes deep and resonate with people...if you only look at the mv and guess without taking the time to understand what they mean it's only lazy, shallow and half the fun...this mv even have an explained version by fans...because it's deep...the mv is based on Demian by Hermann Hesse it's about good vs evil...but the song may be another story

Hi💜 considering that u guys are doctors and not musician, i think it is better for u guys to react to BTS UNIVERSE. BTS universe is a fictional storyline that evolve around the BTS music video, short films, on stage prologue and more. The story touches about mental health, suicide, hardships in life, etc. It is about the seven friends(BTS members) who are tied by fate and find themselves caught in a cycle of repeated suffering. Here are the things that you can watch on youtube. I listed them according to their order. For the music video listed here, the song actually doesn't really related with what happen in the story. You can enjoy BTS lyrics when you turn on the subtitles of course but keep in mind that the song are not related to the BTS universe, only the scene in the music video are related. • ‘I NEED U’ MV Original Version • 화양연화 on stage : prologue • ‘RUN’ MV • ‘I NEED U (Japanese Ver)’ MV • ‘EPILOGUE: Young Forever’ MV • WINGS Short Film #1 BEGIN* /#2 LIE*/ #3 STIGMA* /#4 FIRST LOVE/ #5 REFLECTION/ #6 MAMA /#7 AWAKE • ‘피 땀 눈물 (Blood Sweat & Tears)' MV • ‘血、汗、涙 (Blood Sweat & Tears)' Japanese Version MV • LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel '起承轉結' • 'Euphoria : Theme of LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder' • ‘FAKE LOVE’ Teaser 1 • ‘FAKE LOVE’ MV • ‘FAKE LOVE’ MV (Extended Ver) • LOVE YOURSELF 結 Answer 'Epiphany' Comeback Trailer • BTS Universe Story 花樣年華 'MAP OF THE SOUL' * BTS Storyline summary+ explanation

I'm a dentist also not a musician but I love music and I became Army a year ago when I decided to give BTS a chance and they completely blew me away. They're different from any group you've ever seen before. They're super talented and versatile covering almost all genres and their lyrics go very deep, poetic, and philosophical. I recommend the cover "Le Jazz de V" by one of the members I think you'll appreciate it a lot. You won't find any modern day artist with that soulful baritone voice who can do this cover justice like he did. Also let us know your favorite genres so we could suggest you songs accordingly

You should definitely turn on subtitles. BTS have the best lyrics ever, mostly in Korean. They write their own songs. This song was based on the book Demian by Hermann Hesse, and the quote was from that book. In it the main character faces his own struggle with temptation and the battle for good and evil.

Many, many BTS songs are deep. If you ask ARMY , no one would think of them as your typical pop boy band - they are unique unto themselves. They are brilliant lyricists, producers, songwriters and of course performers. But don't expect fun, typical pop-type lyrics and subjects - these men are artists in the truest sense of the word. BTW: turn on the english captions so you can get lost in their lyrics.

As a person who was never into conventional “boy bands” and slept on them for a long time because of my misconception, I love BTS and I think it’s because they aren’t really the typical boy band I expected them to be. Lots of us way above the age of 40 love them. Their music does have deeper meanings so subtitles are a must so do go back and catch those for Blood, Sweat & Tears. I would watch Black Swan next, with the subtitles. If you have to watch the video twice because it’s hard to follow along to both the subtitles and what is happening visually, it’s perfectly ok. We want you to be able to appreciate the songs for what they are.

Definitely, the lyrics are needed. Demian by Hermann Hesse- look at a summary if you can find one- I'll do my best. The older members are shielding or exposing the younger members to the evil in the world. The blindfolds to shield or forcing him to drink the green liquid to expose them. In the book Demian is a mentor?-like figure for Sinclair, the protagonist, that introduces him to sin. Demian's mother is also somewhat of another mentor for Sinclair and there are lots of statues of a mother in the mv. They are all eating an apple at the table. Jin lost his balloon! He is losing his innocence. In the end, (like Sinclair) he accepts abraxas, the God of both good and evil by kissing the statue. After which, all hell breaks loose. For a chick to be born, he must first break his entire world (the egg in which he lives). We see Jin's face cracking in the end. There are also videos explaining all their videos which a worth watching- and I couldn't possibly touch on everything. I'm not even sure I know everything. lol. Thanks for the reaction!

When they come Live or were in a show, so humble, respectful to all, patient no arrogance or “star allures”, they are so amazing and unique! And yes, like you told yourself you need a bit more backup information, like text or in this special case how meaningful the MV is in itself, trust me it’s worth it!

Oh oh, you went straight to BS&T! The most difficult mv to understand. Please turn the cc on because BTS lyrics are deep such as this song which was inspired by an old classic book called Damien by Hermann Hess. This mv from the beginning to the end has clues and symbolism. The black door next to white , dark statues vs white statue, painting of the War of Angels, the Fall of Icarus, the apple, and much more. The book is about a young boy’s introduction to temptations as he meets encounters people along his journey. The good and evil that exist.

There’s over 10+ years of music videos, live performances, their own “variety shows”, speaking engagements including the WH, as well as each artist has individual works. Each artist also composes, produces, plays instruments and performs other functions. As previous commenters said please turn on the captions, most videos have live performances as well as behind the scene explanations. I love that you are checking out BTS. Also, yes a lot of ARMY (BTS’s fan base) like me remember seeing Michael Jackson perform. 😀 Their discography is so extensive and delves into many genres, so you will never get bored. More than that, they have so much behind the scenes content, their own variety show, and documentaries that you get to really appreciate them as reliably consistent and sincere human beings. I don’t think you could find anyone more deserving of the accolades that they have achieved. I think they try to ensure that we see them as human beings and not some entertainable ideal that should be worshiped. Many of their songs delve in to uncommon topics like depression, dealing with social expectations, and self-love. Love between BTS and ARMY is reciprocal. Please check out more. If you let us know what type of music you enjoy we could recommend more. I would suggest Black Swan. There is also a music video version with the performance done by a dance company which is very beautiful.

OOOOPSS!! I'm so sorry we all (at least I know I am guilty) forgot to tell you to watch their Korean (and Japanese sometimes) language songs with ENGLISH SUBTITLES on 😭😭 I'm just so used to using them that I forget it's not always usually what other people do as well... Their native language songs most often have very meaningful lyrics, since BTS members write them (they understandably aren't as comfortable writing an entire song in English)... This song's lyrics are about the desire and temptation for something (or someone) that you know isn't good for you...Many of the images in the music video show this struggle between choosing good vs. evil (religious imagery, the color green representing poison/corruption being eaten, drunk, and inhaled, etc) but other more esoteric images are from the novel "Demian" by H. Hesse, which is based on Jungian psychology about embracing your darker passions in order to fully realize yourself...Crazy stuff, but so visually entertaining!

They manage to earn the love and respect from millions upon millions of people, many of whom credit them with helping them through hard times, encouraging self-love and spreading positivity. Not bad for 7 young men from South Korea (current ages 26 thru 31). They are all currently serving in the South Korean Military and have promised they will all be back together by mid 2025. I just read the decription of your channel, that said you believe we all have room to improve. Honestly and without exageration, BTS is such a perfect representation of that idea. They are 7 very talented and hard working individuals, that never forgot to be good people first. Even with the huge succes they have now as a group and individually (they all have solo music besides the group), they continuously talk about wanting to learn something new, to do something different with each album, and to better themselves in all areas. They know they are good but they are so aware that there can be improvment for everyone, and are willing to put the work in according to this purpose. I hope you will take the chance and try to discover them beyond the surface, they are honestly amazing role models, besides being great artists.

My first reaction to them was probably similar to what I fear I will see in this video, but then I read their lyrics. I wanted to know what my 14 yr old was listening to. I was stunned. I hope you read the comments and give them another try with the lyrics. Even some of the explanation videos are worth diving into because they reveal cultural layers that will blow your mind. I very much enjoyed your Ren reaction as well. I hope you check out more of him.

You must watch with subtitles as their lyrics are really meaningful. RM, the leader of the group, truly is a genius (IQ 148). He reads a lot of books and is a poet. It shows in lyrics he writes. This song is based on the principle of the book Demien by Herman Hesse, about a boy growing up and learning about temptation. It is based also on Nietsche's philsophy (quoted above the mirror in the MV) that "one must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star". BTS explore giving in to temptation, to accept the good and bad within themselves, to truly grow into a full adult. Jin finally releases the balloon symbolizing letting go of his innocent childhood but as soon as he does he reaches for it to get it back but it is too late. He is led to the statue of Abraxas by V (the fallen angel). He kisses the statue of Abraxas to show his acceptance of temptation and his flawless face then starts to show flaws as it cracks. Very short and not very good explanation - i recommend watching a good one like by Bookish Theories.

Yes, please go back and watch it again with subtitles. The meaning of the video is VERY deep! The one looking at the painting is Jin, who’s the main protagonist in some of their videos. He is also portrayed as a time/dimensional traveler in some of them. You see how they react when they first walk in-very childlike. Jin is looking at a painting about the fall of civilization, while the others are more carefree. When you read the lyrics it talks about giving up your individuality to “make it big.” Fast forward to the “Last Supper” and the Herman Hesse quote about Demian. One of them says “I knew it was poison but I drank it anyway” The one with the veil on his face (V) is in the process of his transformation, hence the funeral shroud. When Jin goes to kiss the Angel with black wings (he’s surrendering) they cut back to V and you realize he’s a fallen angel! In the very beginning of the video you see some of the vices like smoking and drinking. The blindfold is a symbol for closing your eyes and surrendering to the dark side. You’ve basically sold your soul. Jungkook hanging upside down is like the Rapture. As I said earlier, when they re-enter the museum, the transformation is complete. (Think Stepford Wives. LOL!) The statue is tainted with the green paint, as the boys are now. They’ve sold their souls for success/riches but somehow they’ve become tainted. As the chorus says “more, more, more.” So definitely go back and watch a couple of times. Once for the visuals and another time concentrate on the lyrics. Happy viewing!

I personally recommend 1) you use subtitles to understand the lyrics 2) dive into each of their solo most recent projects first to get a good idea of who each individual member is and then go back in time. My personal recommendation. Welcome to the BTS rabbithole.💜💜

Are you using subtitles? You should, will make your life easier. B.S & T is One of my favorite BTS videos to analyze/research. To methodically examine the details. Looking up the painting and finding out the name is: "The Fall of the Rebel Angels." centered between 2 doors, a black door and a white door. What is that Quote above the painting? Watching Dr. Coopers face when Jin is mesmerized by the dark angel. And then the Wings disappearing from V's back and the GRIN. If I was guessing what Dr. Coopers thought bubble said during that scene, it would have been; WTF? Everything in this video is clue to the piece of the puzzle. Blood, Sweat & Tears is a wonderful adventure. It's gets my investigative juices flowing. They do have a blood, sweat & tears explanation video that you could react to.

Totally should watch with subtitles. It’s great to watch it without first enjoy the music and choreo and other elements/story of the music video, but BTS is actually known for their deep, meaningful lyrics, with concepts based in literature, mythology, and more. I would suggest watching it twice in camera - we would love to also hear your thoughts on the lyrics of most songs. This song, for instance, was inspired by the book “Demian” by Herman Hesse. There are also elements in the MV that are significant to the Bangtan Universe (BU) - a fictional storyline that runs through many albums, music videos, short films, a computer game, webtoons, and more - and more often than not the song lyrics aren’t BU tied, but the MV’s are.

Congratulations for this react!!! BTS love cinematography. The boys write the lyrics and participate in everything, it would be nice to watch with the lyrics. They have degrees in music but 2 of them have degrees in performing arts with a master's degree in theater and cinema. One of them called V made a scenic appearance in a music video called "Love Wins All" directed by an award-winning filmmaker and on YTB alone it had 50 million views. It would be interesting to watch, the singer's name is IU and she is a star in Korea. Thank you!!!💜💟🙋‍♀️

As everyone else has mentioned, subtitles are beyond helpful, lol. We'll even watch with you twice, if you want to watch a video without subtitles to focus on the music & visuals & then again with the subtitles for the lyrics. BTS has some songs for fun that are not too difficult to interpret, but many of their songs & videos are full of deep meaning about psychological concepts, societal issues, self-discovery, etc. This is one of those songs, which was partially inspired by the book Demian, by German author Hermann Hesse. RM (the leader of BTS) is a big reader with a big IQ (& is fluent in 3 languages). Therefore many of his lyrics contain inspiration from what he's read. After the release of this song, sales of the book Demian increased. I'd never heard of it, so I had to read it of course! It is a fascinating story & the video has some aspects of it. All this to say, you can enjoy their music without delving into the lyrics & meaning, but it's even better when you realize how much thought & consideration went into it. Welcome to BTS. I'm subscribing to follow your musical exploration journey.

I know that some people just enjoy the vibe of songs , but with BTS lyrics matter. I hope you will consider watching with cc. Many watch with cc and then without or visa versa. The lyrics don’t always match the song because there is a deep storyline that goes with a lot of BTS songs and it’s like being a private eye to figure it out, there are explanation videos, though if you are ever interested.

As others have commented, the lyrics are important in BTS's songs but not always in the way you might expect. One of the things I love about them is that they can produce fun songs that seem at surface level to be nothing but a bop or a love song, but put in context of the message of the entire album or album series it takes on multiple different meanings if you're willing to go deeper. There are explanation videos aplenty if you really want to experience the meaning behind the videos you react to. Though this might also take you down the BU "Bangtan Universe" (BTS is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan) rabbit hole. I recommend the youtube channel Bookish Theories. You could do entire podcasts covering just one song/music video, particularly Blood Sweat and Tears.

The history of the band's creation and not only its appreciation in this hostile industry, but its global dominance is something phenomenal. Theres so much to unpack and without lyrics it's almost impossible to grasp the mv's meaning.BTS frequently will address quite serious lyrics with an upbeat melody. I'm sure you have read the Hesse book "Demian" on which the mv is based. The secondary reference is the "Daedalus" myth, a cautionary against flying too high coupled with hubris. Possibly addressing their own rise to superstardom. Nothing is ever placed in a BTS mv without intention. All of the art means something. For example, the opening painting of the "War of the Angels". Another reference to hubris but also temptation. The David statue symbolizes BTS' underdog status against the mega agencies in SK. These are just a few refertials. Above the mirror is written at the end "Who would be born must first destroy a world", Jin has traded childhood innocence for adulthood. The organ selection that Yoongi is playing is excerpted from the book as well. And this just scratches the surface.
