I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Billy Idol was the 1st superstar spawned directly from Mtv. Steve Stevens' guitar work on this song is amazing.

The Rebel Yell is something the Confederate army were famous for doing during battle in the Civil War. The actual Rebel Yell sounded like a huge pack of coyotes yipping at the top of their lungs, but today it means more like a yell you let out when you’re REALLY enjoying yourself and don’t care who knows, like screaming YEAH or YEEHAW, although mostly more just kind of a wordless noise. This song isn’t about a breakup, it’s Billy Idol celebrating that his girl is really enthusiastic in bed and that’s why he’s with her!

From Billy's mouth, he said he was at a big party with the Rolling Stones and such, and there was a bottle of alcohol called 'Rebel Yell'. It sounded cool and inspired him so he wrote this song.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the Confederate connection to the term.
@jenniferfoster1692
3 күн бұрын
@@MichaelLopez-dn6gg Yes, in America we have that connection but Billy Idol is British and saw the name on a bottle of whiskey/alcohol at a party & thought it sounded cool. It has no Confederate meaning originating from the writer of the song.

Billy Idol was inspired by The Sex Pistols to make music in his teens. With Stevens guitar work he merged Punk with 80s Metal brilliantly.
They didn’t have cell phones back then!! Your point still stands everyone was in the moment rocking out. It just made me giggle

In the late 70's he was a punkrocker he was a member of the punk band generation x. In the 80's he launches his career into the mainstream with lots of chart hits. And he don' have lost his credebilaty. Check out his version of the song mony mony a total 80's party banger. Or the video to his song to be a lover where he is showing off his entertainment quality alone in a ring. And he is one of these guys with this unique god given voice. You can recognize him every time. Now i play mony mony on ten and do a little escalation in my home
Now you're ready for "White Wedding!" by Billy
He certainly lives up to his name.. "Idol"..

I saw Billy Idol in concert back in 1990 or 1991 on the Charmed Life tour. Faith No More opened. When they played Rebel Yell, you could see every person in the audience fist pumping in time with "more, more, more". It was wild. Amazing concert.

I've seen interviews with Steve Stevens, and even though they were pop-punk (before that was a thing) they always designed their songs for the dance floor!
Came from late 70s emerging London punk scene, along with Sex Pistols, Adam Ant, Siousxie and the Banshees, the Cure...it was a moment of musical evolution. Billy had the most US top 40 hits.
Billy Idol has a ton of awesome songs that were huge in their day. He can sing like a mother*&$%# !! His guitarist, Steve Stevens, can go full on sonic mayhem, and backing it up with hard grinding dirty rocktones. Check out the song HOT IN THE CITY, either listed as a Billy Idol song or a Generation X song (his previous band). It's got the same WOW energy and musical catchiness that this one has.
Your right Stax.. no phones! 🙂
My Fav is when he was in Generation X and the song “Dancing With Myself!”
Hear the live on VH-1 acoustics session from him....His voice is REAL.
Billy Idol - Speed official music video.
He was asked on MTV in the early 80s how he got his hair to stay like that and he said sugar and water. The natural gel😂😂 White Wedding is a banger. I drove my parents nuts with this Lp 😂 Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️

Is this your first Billy Idol video? I've always been a fan. You crack me up when you say there were no phones😉 It was the 80s, man, the phones were plugged into the walls. It was a better time, leaving those things at home. Also, we just accepted that this was typical rock and roll, altho Billy always did his own thing, which was fantastic. I just love his music. During the pandemic, he became introspective about his motorcycle accident in the late 80s? early 90s? don't quote me- and he wrote a killer song called Bitter Taste. The guy is in his late 60s and still kicking ass! 🖤

Going from smooth to loud or other details in the sound is called DYNAMICS. The greats all know how to vary vocal lines to catch the ears.

White Wedding is also a jam. Also, cell phones weren’t common in the 80’s. They didn’t really become an item for everyone until the early 2000’s.

That's such a great song. Still gets me amped up all these years later. My friends in a bluegrass band covered this song years ago and it was actually good surprisingly. If anyone is curious to hear it bluegrass style here's a link kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5p5ttF7ZNvHfrg.htmlsi=kB2ni2BzwwUAA13y

It was hard on us, Billy being so good lookin’. It was a lot to ask of us teens. 4:02 yes! “Oooooh!” Steve Stephens’ guitar playing in this song STILL makes me feel that way. But nothing could compare to the 4:23 “showing out” - talk about setting a scene. It raised our expectations on relationships … and not in the healthiest way. 😅😂Thanks, Stax! Oh! Talking about Generation X, he was in a band by the same name. 🤘🏻

It's not about anger - it's about a woman who is so good in bed and insatiable that he would give everything to keep her. He named the song after having 'Rebel Yell' Whiskey with Mick Jagger and David Bowie. The term 'Rebel Yell' comes from the strange and terrifying sounds confederate soldiers would make just prior to attacking or defending an attack - it freaked the Union army out bad fir the first couple of years of the civil war.

7:15: I don't know why you don't download the video and then react to it when you play it back instead of streaming it. You're obviously gonna get ads when you stream but you won't when you download.
Billy has a good "metal scream" but he is not the greatest like Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Robert Plant (Led Zepplin), Sebastain Bach (Skid Row), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), to name just a few examples - LOL!
Do Prodigal Blue. My theme song
