Beth's famous for being not famous. She was born to sing the blues but honestly I have never understood why more people don't know who she is.

1. Does NOT want to be famous (in part, because her first brush with fame nearly killed her 1999). 2. Musically she's situated mostly in the Blues/Jazz/Soul genres which, of course, never get any airplay. 3. She's on a small, independent label (so she can maintain control of her work). 4. She prioritizes staying mentally healthy (dealing with her bipolar condition) over working more...

@@ben-schulman....I agree with your synopsis, all very good points, but she'd been at the game for minute when she had her big breakdown and got sober, and I don't think at that time she would have turned down the fame. Granted she wasn't as polished of an artists in the 90s as she was later. Mostly though, sometimes you don't have a choice if your fame goes viral, so in a sense I too find it hard grasp why such a monumental talent was and is slept on by so many people. myself included until a couple years ago.

@@sunshynff I don’t really think it was “a minute”….Beth had been a traumatized individual since age 4, in therapy since age 7, alcoholic since age 11, and living with untreated bipolar mental disorder up through age 27-when she had her worst breakdown and barely made it through…She’d been developing her musical skill on a professional level since about age 15 or 16. Her first album was in 1993 (age 21) and self-financed. Then she got her first record contract (with Atlantic) in 1995 and released ‘Immortal’ in 1996 at age 24---and was a drug addict, alcoholic, and bat-shit crazy the whole time. By the time her 2nd studio album (‘Screamin’ for my Supper’) came out in 1999, she finally imploded due to the pressure of tangible success (hit single “LA Song,” appearance on David Letterman, etc.) coming her way. Yeah, she wanted the fame at the time (she’d been scratching and clawing for it for 12 years by this time) but she couldn’t handle it… Subsequently, she learned how to deal with her conditions-both mental illness and drug/alcohol addiction-and just focus on health and music. It’s funny, this idea of “famous for not being famous” played itself out early on when Beth and band were given top billing on the 2nd Stage at the 1996 Lollapalooza (Metallica & Soundgarden were on the 1st Stage). Everyone said, “Who the fuck is that???”…but when you saw her, you know right away you were seeing something magical. So the ego is deserved but now she wants no part of it.

I'd rather go blind from Etta James is one of my favorite songs probably of all time and she absolutely nails it with Joe bonamassa. Listen to your people and check that song out it's so good!

I can vouch for this, I saw her last week in Cincinnati and it was one of the best concerts I’ve EVER been to!!!

I am new to Beth Hart this year. I have been blown away. My all time favorite female singer was Janis Joplin and I have see a number of strong contenders to her position as Queen of the Blues but none have impressed me as much as Beth Hart. This was my first time hearing Change Gonna Come by her and I loved it but still, her version of I Would Rather Go Blind with Joe Bonamassa it the pinnacle of the work that I have seen so far. You won't be sorry if you react that that one.

I have been listening to Beth for over 20 years. She was on star search believe it or not...I'm sure you can find a video. She played at a bar in 1999...I was 18 and couldn't get in....so I sat on the curb and listened from there. She came out the door and I met her she signed my check book. I was forever changed. I told her that I to wrote music and she wrote down "Always make your music true to you" Her music tells a story but her music journey is a story in itself. I highly recommend starting at the beginning...Her 1st record was The Beth Hart Band Immortal, then Screamin' For My Supper. she has evolved in so many ways but always makes love to you when she plays. Her records do not do her justice and I recommend that everyone go see her live. My mother has seen Elvis, Michael Jackson and Lynyrd Skynyrd (twice before the plane crash) and she swears that Beth is best live performance she has ever seen. love your content.

Beth Hart was a treasure I discovered about a year-and-a-half ago. I was shocked that I had never seen this amazing performer before. The more I went down the rabbit hole the more I felt that she's the best female singer in the world right now. I have also popped in and out of your channel several times I was just too annoyed by how often you used to interrupt. But I saw you were reacting to my girl so I popped back in.... you have gotten much better on that front. I am sure I'm not the only one who's going to tell you this. MrLboyd, I walked this earth just shy of 50yrs, in 2019, and had never heard of this woman, so you're not alone, she's slept on by many, has her biggest following in the Netherlands for some reason. These two other reactors on YT that discovered her last year had shirts made up that said "Who the F**K is Beth?" She is such a talent in so many ways!! Her vocal range is astronomical, her stage presence and ability to convey emotion and intent of a song while performing is awe inspiring, she plays 7-8 different instruments very well and her situational awareness within a song especially when performing, knowing exactly where to go heavy, or lie back, what the band is doing and reading the audience simultaneously could lead one to argue she's like the Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky of Rhythm and Blues.

Almost forgot....My suggestion is to listen to her cover of Etta James's "I'd Rather Go Blind" Live in Amsterdam with Joe Bonamassa, You'll know the video is the one we want u to watch, it has 22mil views..lol. Beth has her own band, but has teamed up with Joe for a couple albums of classic Blues covers, they play really well together and consider each other kindred spirits. Joe is a legend in his on right in the Blues community, BB King used to sneak Joe into clubs and lie about his age when Joe was 15, so he could open for BB. His guitar solo in this song will make you weep it's so good.

same age as Beth then...I need one of those shirts. On the instruments, apart from the piano, she regularly plays only acoustic guitar and bass guitar in concert (for certain songs). I believe she no longer plays the Cello (since teenage years) or percussion. Of course, her greatest instrument is that voice. So maybe 3 instruments--still, when you watch the way she sings, you can she's a pure musician and not just a "singer."

First time hearing Beth Hart? Oh, I was in the same position a couple of years ago. Then I was recommended a song by Joe Bonamassa ('Drive'), and that led to two songs by Joe and Beth together: 'I'd Rather Go Blind' and 'I'll Take Care Of You'. (Live videos on KZread, just sensational stuff.) So basically I found two new massive favourites in the space of ten minutes. A couple of months later I went to see Joe at the Royal Albert Hall (prayers that Beth would appear were unanswered!) - amazing show. Now I'm due to see Beth at the London Palladium in March and Joe again in May. Beth's show has already been rescheduled once due to you-know-what, and they're talking about new restrictions until the end of March, so I'm resigned to another new date. But anyway, this is all to say she's just sensational and please take a look at the videos mentioned, you won't regret it. Sorry, I'm a bit obsessed. Going for a lie-down.

First time I saw Beth was in an off-Broadway show called “Love, Janus” in Greenwich Village in 2001…fast forward to 2010 when I saw her perform with Joe Bonamassa at the Beacon Theatre in NYC and I’ve been a huge fan ever since…the only performer I’ve ever heard who has the ability to give you goose bumps with one song and bring tears to your eyes with the next…lots of good suggestions here, but if you’re really looking for her version of another “iconic” song go with the Etta James classic, “I’d Rather Go Blind” live in Amsterdam with Joe and his band…strap yourself in - it’s one of the best performances you’ll ever see… 😎
