One of the most beautiful ballads EVER WRITTEN. Period.
At the 1996 Grammy Awards, "Kiss from a Rose" won awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

I dunno if I'd categorize him that way....this album was so classically influenced, and so beautifully produced, I think of it as soul/prog, kinda. It's mostly unique to him, with that fantastic songwriting, wonderful arrangements and THAT VOICE.
This song was done for Bruce Wyane, aka (Batman), for placing the rose on the sidewalk where Joker killed his parents. 🧡

He’s one of those guys. That song is so good. Good doesn’t give it and him justice. He was born to sing that song.
When I was a little girl growing up in a beautiful neighborhood in Detroit, I spent two weeks trying to catch this song on the radio. I never could hear the whole song all at once! Finally, on the "Quiet Storm on WJLB" I heard the artist's name and was able to buy the cassette. I know this comment dated the hell outta me but I have to say how long I have loved this song! 😂❤👵🏿
One of the best artists from the last 30 years
Seal is the male version of Sade. His first 3 albums are all amazing and his debut album "Seal" is a masterpiece ("Crazy", "Future Love Paradise" and "Deep Water" each are excellent). He also does a great cover of Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like An Eagle".

Indeed! Honestly every second of this song feels like a masterpiece on its own 🤣❤️
When you consider the fact that Seal didn't play an instrument when he wrote this song is extraordinary. KZreadr and musician Rick Beato (with an assist from Seal) break down just how truly remarkable musically this song is.
Fun fact, not sure if anyone else pointed this out: Seal wrote and demo'd this in the late 80s before he was ever signed, and it was a pretty basic acoustic ballad that he was kind of embarrassed of and never showed anyone. Whilst recording with Trevor Horn (founder of the Buggles of Video Killed the Radio Star fame and producer of a bunch of artists to this day), Horn coaxed Seal into letting him hear it, and then came up with the arrangement you hear on the final track with the strings and oboe and stuff. It got released as single to middling success, but then got a huge bump off the back of Joel Schumacher using it on the Batman Forever OST.
"Crazy" should be next. Mine and Alannis Morissette's fav, SHE covered it!! 😁 Seal is my go to!! ❤👍🏽

The acoustic version just does things to me. What a voice.
One of the most iconic voices
It is amazing how powerful his voice is; yet at certain moments in the song, it was “powerfully soft.”
This song came out over 27 years ago.. older than that before he could release… but this song holds up today!
One of the great love songs. He has an amazing voice.
Seal wrote this song... so beautiful, but my FAVORITE song by him is "Crazy". Incredible song.
By listening to it, you really can't tell how unbelievably complex this performance is. I watched a deconstruction video on this, where the guy pulled it apart to hear all the individual parts that are going on. The vocal alone is like 8 layers deep of some really complex harmonies. Like F#13m-augmented stuff all over the song. Very cool and deep respect for Mr. Seal.

Add to that the 3/4 pentameter for this song, not really popular in today's pop music unless you're trying to waltz!
Kiss From A Rose is my all-time favorite song, of ANY genre... It is so beautifully composed. Seal actually says he had no idea what he was doing when he composed it, which tells me it all came from the deepest part of his soul. If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, this would be my pick
Seal was huge in the 90's with a multiplatinum album, with several hits and this was his biggest winning multiple Grammys. Such an ethereal song with multiple transitions like a symphony. A true masterpiece.
he’s a british singer whose parents were brazilian and nigerian. his most famous songs are „killer“, „crazy“ and „kiss from a rose“ which is part of the batman-soundtrack. he also sang at the freddie mercury tribute concert the song „who wants to live forever“ with the remaining members of queen.
I still crank this to level slayer every time it comes on 🤣🤣 and sing along the entire time lol
There is no way you are hearing this masterpiece for the first time! 🎶
I think this song is beautiful and majestic, love it.

I would call this a modern ballad, one of the best! ❤️😁
1995, Batman Forever…what a time to be alive! This song is awesome.
Unique artist, love him.
I played the shit out of his first album - he is smooth as glass and a freaking amazing talent. He also is a big snowboarder - I'd love to make some powder turns with him, he seems so down to earth. Yes this is one of his best ..his voice is velvet
I saw him at Chicago channel 11 soundstage 10+ years ago...and he told the story of how this song came to be. He has great dance hits too! 'CRAZY' was his first hit. It's so amazing! One of my fave songs ever.
On the Radio & Records airplay chart, this spent 6 weeks at #1, the second longest of any song in 1995. Dionne Ferris had 9 weeks on top with "I Know".
This song was influenced by British folk music. Love Seal.❤

Everytime i hear this song it always reminds me of the movie BATMAN FOREVER with Val Kilmer and Jim Carrey 😍
Seal is underrated, his music holds some of my dearest childhood memories, from Batman, to Space Jam. 😊
He did a live version just before lockdown, with a UK orchestra & he sounds exactly the same as the studio version. It's so beautiful . It's on YT . It was for a radio station.
You can tell Seal is British, he's mixing classic British folk music into dance and modern music with soul music. Great musician

Very diverse artist, everything he released was quality and each release was very different from the one before. He's a class act.
I think if you reacted to his first hit which came out in 1989 you would be amazed Seal was collaborating with Adam Tilney and formed Adamski singing their number 1 hit called Killer but you must watch the video that accompanies the song you will see a young Seal with Dreads, great funky song.
Seal was MASSIVE back in the day - soundtrack to my twenties 💜
One of the most beautiful songs. Just makes me melt. The song was in a Batman Movie too.

Seal be good. Like with Sade for relaxing evening. Go together beautifully. Enjoyed your review. Thanks.
I'm so glad you reacted to the song. I consider it one of the best songs ever written of any genre of any time. And his performance to be perfection. I could listen to this song forever on replay and never get tired of it. I don't know who put the soundtrack together if it was all Seal or if he had collaboration but the beginning with the flute and the voices is so very medieval It t sounds like musicians playing at a medieval court before the king and queen. And then he comes in with that gorgeous voice and he just adds layer upon layer of a kind of a pop rock r&b sound. The lyrics are absolutely swoon worthy. I don't know how anyone can hear them and not feel the emotion he's singing with. Perfection!!
I laughed and laughed during this video only because I was saying to the screen- “You know this song Asia. There is no wayyyy you don’t know this song.” And then ya did hahaha great reaction!!! I know we are around the same age and growing up you heard this song even if ya tried to avoid it. But no one would it’s a great song. Great job once again folks!! 😀😀😀

Simply stunning vocals. Hey, try this for a first listen, Soul to Soul, Back to life. A group breaking track..
Back in my day, we saw Seal as the male version of Sade. He was married to Heidi Klum of Victoria's Secret and Project Runway fame.
Everything about this song is perfection. Lyrics, seal's amazing voice, and Trevor Horn's production. A prayer for the Dying is also amazing.
Funny story about how he met Heidi Klum: She says that she was in a hotel lobby waiting for a friend and he came in from cycling, all sweaty and wearing very tight bike shorts. She said she immediately decided she needed to introduce herself. 😄
Asia had that dreamy look we all had the first time we heard this song ❤️ (I know you’d heard it before, but your realization was sweet.)
"Crazy" by him is AMAZING!!! And so is the official video. BJ talked about the B&W video. That's the one: "Crazy" - His style is kind of "European"
Seals been around since 1989. He’s done all styles of music.
Aerosmith does have their own song “Crazy.” Love it a well as this one- (2 totally different, yet iconic songs) I highly suggest Seals “Crazy” next- And yes, he was married to super model Heidi Klum-💖💙

The 'Seal II' album (1994) is a great record... not 1 bad song on it, from "Bring it on" to "I'm alive"... The singles "Don't cry" and "Prayer for the dying" were hits. Seal's 1991 hit was the single 'Crazy'... A later hit was 'Waiting for you" 🔥🔥
Seal was one of the judges on the Voice Australia and Britain is where he's from
Seal is one of my all time favorite artists. The man is talent personified. This song is from a Batman movie soundtrack, so I want to say it's not typical Seal, but there is no typical Seal. He can't be put in a box. Please check out Crazy next.
There's a really cool background to this song, but it became a smash being included and released as a single from the motion picture soundtrack for "Batman Forever." Then, according to Wikipedia, "At the 1996 Grammy Awards, it won awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance." IMHO, this is one of the most brilliant and beautiful songs ever written and performed. Thanks for listening and reacting. Y'all always make it fun. ;-)
This guy is massively talented and if you see him on you tube playing live you’ll realise he is brilliant live too ... thanks Peter from 80s England :-)

I do enjoy when you guys react to UK artists, Seal first appeared on the number 1 dance hit "Killer" by Adamski featuring Seal on vocals, great song well worth a listen also, his song "Crazy" another dance hit is great, but my personal favourite apart from kiss from a rose is a song he released called "Human Being" very worthy of a reaction video.
In the late '80s/early '90s, Seal was considered Alternative, a genre that basically covered the many artists of the era that didn't neatly fit into any existing genre. The advent of MTV threw the big music studios for a loop, and they temporarily lost their control over pop music. They eventually adapted and reasserted their dominance over the industry, bringing a more formulaic approach back to music and maginalizing Alternative music once more. Now the term "Indie" is more prevalent, but it's the same flavor to me.
It’s his biggest song it saved his career because of the Batman forever movie
Seal is a British singer-songwriter who has had many hits but "Kiss From A Rose" is one of his best. Such a beautiful song. Other hits were "Crazy", "Killer", "Future Love Paradise". He was married at one time to German super model Heidi Klum & had 3 children with her.

Please Americans get don't seem to understand this, ...Seal is English, not British. A Scot would meet say they are British, they are Scottish, a Welsh person would never say they are British , they are Welsh etc . .. Great Britain is made up of 4 separate countries . Each has a very different dialect and some places in Wales they don't even speak English , they speak Welsh . Before I get a lot of criticism and abuse, yes it is important, and not racist or political . Americans often say ,' oh he or she has a British accent '. There is no such thing . Anyway, Seal is amazing and a really lovely down to earth guy .From Paddington West London England. Was married to Heidi Klum, and yes Crazy is a fab song . He is one of the best at his craft . ❤️
