Im not particularily a Christina fan myself , but this song is an exception, The chords , the lyrics, the tempo, the use of strings, and the way she alternates between her signature power belting and the whispered softness all works together to create an emotional journey, this song really grabs you on a visceral level and doesnt let go,

Beauitful song one of my favorites from Christina. I thought her acting in this mv was impressive too. Some people thought this was about Christina's father but the song was actually inspired by one of the songwriters who collaborated with Christina as well as produced it, Linda Perry, about the recent death of her father at the time. Of course Christina herself obviously put her own emotions and relatability into this you can tell. Hearing this song when it first came out actually helped me understand forgiveness and removing myself from the prison of the pain people caused me. I think this piece was definitely top tier in Christina Aguilera's career.

Actually it was Christina's idea to write a song about losing a loved one, she actually came up with the melody of the song along with some of the lyrics as Linda said. But mostly the song is about Linda's dad because Christina asked Linda for this song when Linda lost her father.

Christina said in a Kelly Clarkson interview she hates singing this song as it is vocally demanding live...she said she always pushes her vocals in the studio and then when she has to sing live..she is like why did I record this song as such or so high lol lol lol...she laughs about it...She said this song requires so much belting and upper register..why it is a vocally demanding song for her!!

I wonder what would Christina says about "Mercy On Me"? I think "Mercy On Me" is one of her toughest songs, and sadly we'll never get to see her preform this in live..

@@alexandervelez9507 Actually the truth about it is Christina wanted to make a song about losing someone important and Linda Perry just lost her father some time before became the core of the song. They co-wrote the song though and the main credit is Christinas.

I forgot how much I loved and related to this song. I see this as a song of grief. I lost my father when I was 11, and it's a lifetime process of dealing with that loss. 💖🦋

Favorite Xtina songs: 1) Fighter 2) Your Body 3) Genie In A Bottle 4) Not Myself Tonight Her part on A Great Big World's song "Say Something" is excellent as well.

Used to listen to this as a young girl, my dad was an alcoholic. So in some ways this song was related to my dad. Sadly I can 100% relate to this now since he died 8 months ago. The alcohol overcame him, the house that grandpa built (which he lived in) burnt to the ground. Nothing left but grief. I can just feel relief in listening to songs he liked or related to the cause. This song is so hard for me to listen to even though it's so beautiful. My dad had ptsd and committed suicide when I was 19. He'd been away with the army most of my childhood. He left me with a mother in a dark hole and 2 younger siblings still in school. Not going to lie the anger got me through the first few years.

The story behind this track is interesting and very sad. The producer of the song is Linda Perry, long time friend and collaborator of Christina. It's about the death of Linda Perry's father, in fact. Christina's is recording her album Back to Basics in 2095, and Linda is collaborating with her. Aguilera saw how bad her friend was with the the dead of her father and started to work on a song about loss and grif. So Perry's was "obliged" to face the subject and ultimately said that the experience of writing and producing a song about it made her overcome the loss of her father.
