As you suggest, Amy Winehouse was a generational talent. I'm 70 and can name many great artists who inspired her talent but who currently deserves mention as being in the same league? No one I've heard. I shudder to think about what we've missed out on with her early departure from this realm.

For sure! I'm a Billie Holiday super fan and there are shades of Billie in her tone but also in her musical philosophy and even her personality/attitude. When she first came out, I always said she was my generation's Billie Holiday. Very sadly, even their life trajectories are eerily similar although Amy rose to fame and self-destructed in a much shorter span of time.

If you are like I was - when Amy Winehouse came over to America and thought she was a good-for-nothing drunk, all because the media told us she was, then watch the Oscar-winning documentary “Amy”. We here in America were fed a lie. Amy Winehouse is a treasure. A legend. She’s cherished in the UK. Adele got her inspiration from Amy. Although Adele is insanely talented, she isn’t and could never be another Amy Winehouse. Even Adele has said that. Please explore this woman- she composed and wrote the lyrics for all of her songs. She played jazz guitar and had the same band mates for her entire career. She was an alcoholic. She came clean, but her fame/money-hungry Dad push her to the limit. She died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.

As a 55 year old, who's lived through the loss of so many extremely talented young people, I've begun to wonder if people like Amy, who have so much to offer are actually only meant to be here for such a short time. Like maybe their impact might not be as strong had they survived? I mean why else would all that talent be given to so many who, oftentimes, kill themselves, intentionally or not, and take all that talent and ability to impact people's lives with them? It's almost like the talent is wasted, which is sad, especially for those if us with no real talent. I hated to hear of Amy's death, especially because of her talent and love of making such great music but I can't say I was surprised. RIP, Amy. I hope you found peace at last. Good reaction guys.

Funnily enough the first time I heard "Back to Black" was when I listened to Angelina Jordan's cover. She wrote this when her husband, Blake cheated on her w/his ex. What a jerk he was!! She said he loved blow (cocaine) and she loved puff (weed). He destroyed her. So sad!! She said she loved Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, to name a few. She went back to black-talking about her doing herion. She died due to acute alcoholism-my sister did too and her name was Amy. 😞

Bollocks .Amy were no angel nor a fool. Only an idiot would honestly think a relationship's gonna truly work when it was one born from Amy cheating on her first partner with Blake, as he were cheatimg on his partner , yes, the one he went back to. As for the heroin, again, she wanted a piece of that pie, Blake didnt twist her arm or put a gun to her head. She came to the table already messed up in her head, and Blake were messed up too. Stop thinking the sun shone our of Amy's arse.

Amy redefined the genre of jazz, using the most uniquely different interpretation that had ever been seen before or after her passing. Her lyrics were profound on a level with genius writers like Bob Dylan. George Michael was so impressed with her Back To Black album and was especially drawn to her song 'Love Is A Losing Game', which he said cemented her in his mind as being the best writer he's ever known of. He was so impressed that he would do a cover of the song in his concerts. Adele's recent song 'Love Is A Game' was highly influenced by Amy's song, in fact when Amy won the Grammy for her Back To Black Album, Adele can be seen up front, in the audience, cheering like a young school girl. Angelina Jordan was also influenced by Amy's unusual inflections and 'slurring' of words at times to add more of a natural affect instead of perfect diction which isn't what jazz is all about and she actually visited Amy's life size statue in front of her home in London where she was photographed as she hugged it.

I was getting fed up with the music around in 2000s.Grew up with music monsters,Beatles,Stones,Hendrix,Floyd,Zeppelin,Bowie,Dylan.First time i heard Amy sing, boom, that was it.My faith was restored. What a voice, what a talent. As the years went by and she became a world superstar,i also witnessed her demise. All those so called friends around her,all that family and there was nobody,no one,to pull out of that crash that was waiting to happen. At 27 it was all over and the world kept turning and everybody got one with life, including me but when you get moments like this and Amy is there again blasting out that massive talent of hers,it just breaks your heart. The hurt really has not gone and it is very hard to accept that she was not saved and it was all over at 27.May she RIP and i hope she knew just how much people loved her.

You guys have to listen to the acoustic version with just her and a guy on piano ...the thing that makes amy the greatest...when she sings live ...depending on her mood ...she changes the arrangement of a song or verse like you can see she feels it different and sings it different. Takes it to levels above ..I'm from the same area in london and amy is the OG Goat

Man, I remember the first time I heard Amy Winehouse. I was on my lunch break and browsing in a Borders Bookstore (remember those?) and they were playing this album over the store's speakers and I was like, "What IS this?" It sounded old and new at the same time. I ended up sticking around to hear the whole album even though I was supposed to be headed back to work. LOL.

And definetely am a fan today, her voice is so addicting to listen to. I've really seen the Amy documentary Film from 2015. It was interesting when she said she was super into jazz. I love jazz music myself as well, so loved to hear that. I just subscribed to your channell, sending all my best from the Netherlands!

she is a perfect example of an artist that when u hear them...u do more than listen...u experience...her sound and techniques would be things that vocal teachers would tell u not to do (not a vocal coach myself but have gathered this statement from various coach reactions on her)...but all the "incorrect" things she does is what makes her a fkn legend...if u could do.. love is a losing game (this version esp with her vocals on top of the Rhodes kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZoBtj6OvmtaoZso.html )...yall would be taken away
