First time driving in Ireland? On the WRONG SIDE!! From Dublin Airport

I created this video for our AirBnB guests to find our home in Dunboyne, which is approx. 20 to 25 minutes from Dublin airport in County Meath, Ireland. It's my first video so please be kind, it is very raw but was created to help those driving for the first time in Ireland! Thank you!

One thing for American drivers to know: these roads are built without shoulders, for the most part. That is why it’s so important that you realize where the middle of the road is and stay as near it as possible. You’ll save the wheel rims and the left side mirror that way! Also, you’ll be shocked to look up quite often to see a semi truck (yes, the very same size as at home!) coming at you like a freight train! You WILL get very nervous! Don’t be afraid to slow way down to even a stop: he’ll get past you. Folks behind you will just have to wait. The first chance you get, pull over a bit and allow them to pass.

6:14 just so you know, you were cruising in the middle lane when there was nothing in the left lane, youre not meant to be in the middle or right lane unless you're passing, otherwise you stay in the left lane

I would love this if I was visiting a different country as I am a bit of a nervous driver! About the rolling stop... I think you can be penalised for a rolling stop in Ireland. Really enjoyed driving along with you!

Your explanation of the regulations is amazingly crystal clear, so please do produce more videos. Creating a video of "reverse around the corner" would be very appreciated.

For US drivers, in the US you are allowed to turn right at a red light. Do the same in Ireland and you will get arrested as it is illegal.

It's not the wrong side! The steering has been on the right for centuries and more. The English word starboard itself is based on the German word Steuerbord, the side for steering. Guess what, it's on the right when facing forward. (We all hope car drivers are facing forward.)

Great video but I have just one quibble where you said you'd advise to go slow because there is fast moving traffic, get up to the same speed as the traffic your joining which is only going to be 65-70 mph as its safer for everyone,

Speed sign posts are in Kilometers per hour not miles per hour. Unless you go to Northern Ireland.

Wouldn't it be great if they put the speed limit alongside the speed camera sign. Which sign is more important do you think?

Not for tourists from other countries with road traffic on the other (right) side. Anyway, for many tourists and people from abroad, it seems anachronistic that people still drive on the left in Ireland. So much has been done to separate from England and then for decades you can't get away from it and you still drive like in the UK. Well, it's probably too late for that now. But couldn't this have been solved differently in the past?

@@MindTheGap1 But you completely overlook the fact that decades ago there were far fewer cars in Ireland. Even today, statistically speaking, there are 43 vehicles for every 100 inhabitants in Ireland. Nevertheless, the historic opportunity is probably over. This opportunity arose when Sweden switched from driving on the left to driving on the right in 1967. If Ireland had changed back then, which would have been possible, it would have one less oddity today. The English automobile industry would probably have had the unnecessary problems, but not so much the state of Ireland or its population. Besides, Great Britain could have switched in the 1960s. After all, that was also considered for Great Britain before the switch from left-hand to right-hand traffic in Sweden.
