I passed my test about a week ago and I’m terrified of going out driving by myself. I’m scared of coming across something that I don’t know what to do or getting lost. Terrified of the sat nav taking me the wrong way. I’ve not yet been out on my own, always have to have a experience driver next to me. Other drivers scare me, I get paranoid about making mistakes and what other drivers are thinking. I’m trying to build confidence before going alone.

Passed in November last year, recently made my longest journey, a road trip to the Brecon becons and surrounding area, Gloucester and such. It was my first time on the motorway, it went amazing really enjoyed it, quite exciting once you’re in the thick of it. All you gotta think is “ I can do it “ and then just enjoy the open road 😀 keep up the great vids, always informative.

You are completely right I was never taught going right or straight on at spirals only left at two nearby and I was never 100% confident in my roundabout judgement skills especially on minis and the tiny pole type ones and this has lead to me being rather fearful of most roundabouts that I dont know well. The spirals I have been trying at night to make sure I get them right before using them in heavy traffic I tend to make mistakes on them either coming off early when theres a load of exits before 12 or getting confused as they split off. I really enjoy your videos after a year of passing. The only thing I wish I had was full confidence with all roundabouts that I come across. My instructor taught me a lot of good skills for life but lacked with roundabouts I think I done 1 full 2 hour lesson about them but I believe I needed at least a few on them to help nail them.

I think you should be rated number 1 uk's driving instructor i would say other instructors should learn from you and understand that it's not only about passing their students or learners it's what you will do after passing as well and know how you will drive later on. Some people pass and don't know how to reverse out of a bay because they didn't learn that or other things such as filling fuel at petrol station and know what fuel you need to put even though it won't come up in the test but you still need to know and there's alot more as we say you never stop learning. My dad has been driving last 20+ years now and he makes mistakes still some times he overtakes or don't use mirrors when driving in hurry.

In my opinion knowing things on their "real terms" is the most important part of driving after passing the test, as the test really doesn't prepare you for any of that. As you pointed out, even a stupid thing such as fueling is something which you don't think about, but will probably come as a major surprise after you pass your test, and panic as you end up spilling petrol in the station haha.

Instructors prob don’t do enough dual carriageway roads with learners as they want to get home b one piece. I only did prob 2hrs all in all when I was learning but once I passed I drove around these type of roads outside of peak times to get more experience. Learners should tell their instructors to practice more on things they are not confident in and not just learn to pass their test!

I got my driving license 2 months ago, in Romania. First of all the streets here are full with parked cars in the wrong places. It's very difficult for a begginer to stay focused and to have full control over the car. And it's very truth about the car that you own in compare with the one that you have your school with. I had my on diesel and my own it's a petrol car. I was shocked big differences and I am still very nervous when I am driving. Thank you so much for your videos. Every time when I decide to drive I watch one of your videos and it brings a little bit of confidence.😃

I have lots of buttons in my car, it took me a while to get a hang of what they all do. I passed a year ago and drive an automatic, but I hate those massive roundabouts at motorway exits

We are quite lucky in this country as some countries only have a 10 minute test. I kmow someone from Albania said in this country our focus to pass a test is safety which is good in Albania its how to drive a car. Lol

I know I am late to this but, you mentioned people not getting experience on dual carriage ways with the higher speeds that it entails. Where I live the only fast roads are motorways so I was stuck until I passed. I watched a lot of videos on motorways and high speed driving and I also made sure I knew what the rules and regulations was. As you say you never ever stop learning. I have been passed 2 years and something is bound to occur that I have never experienced before, but because I take my time and use common sense I now feel I can cope with anything thrown at me LOL. Keep up the good work Matt

Thanks for this I passed 3 days ago and decided to drive today only 10 mins away from home and i had someone behind me aggressively beeping at me because I stalled the car, basically because I had to stop to let a car through and when I went to set of I came up too quick on the clutch 😬 i came back home feeling really defeated and out of place on the road, but this video helped so much! Think when you pass you need to realise that you are at the beginning of your driving journey and one day I’ll be a confident driver who makes less mistakes 👍

Thinking of using them for a few weeks till I get used to my car again as hubby used to take me out in it when I was learning but I stopped driving it when I was close to test so I could focus on my instructors car x

It’s so frustrating , I learned in a diesel car and I have the same issue . My confidence is completely shattered as I stall or the car shudders all the time . I have become so frustrated that I’ve considered getting an automatic car. It’s true that you are taught just to pass the test ! Don’t get me started on faster speed , carriage ways and roundabouts!! I feel like some driving instructors do the minimum and then just leave you to it. How dangerous!! Even when my pal who is a good driver says let me take you out in like nah! Just feel so deflated! 😔

Hi. Just wondering if you would consider doing some more ‘New Driver’ Video shorts. As an example I’ve just recently bought a car and finding it difficult to finding what is probably considered basic information ie What car essentials should I carry for everyday to day driving in the boot & glove compartment. Also, with Autumn weather starting to rear its head.....what tops tips are there for preparing for each of the Seasonal changes.

I passed my test, after when l bought my new car and insured fully also taxed it then petrol in it on my first drive to home l didn't use a phone or answer it when it was ringing at all only for sat navigation on my phone holder and that about it so obey the law those of you who had passed! I want to say thank you, your videos had helped me pass my driving test. I believe many learners dont watch videos, that keep them at commitment same as those who passed as they do not use knowledge about after they passed from instructiors like you self but jump straight in to a car and end up forgetting about half of their standard driving and they may uphold many but even not upholding few or forgetting small few standards are most certainly a dangerous situation when you compare it to other drivers who very well may be a hazard if we dont plan well ahead to be under full control and l strongly urge them to watch you videos like this one for passers like myself.

Hello I don't know if you've done a video on this but I need advice on how not to make the car jerk whenever I slow down from 2nd to 1st gear. I'm sometimes stuck between two thoughts, How long can I stay in 2nd gear when coming to a stop that only lasts 5 secs. Like I'd be in second gear and I see that ahead cars have stopped for no longer than secs, so by the time I've slowed down enough for 1st gear, cars have moved and I've gone into 1st gear and the car jerks. I'm trying to master the clutch control of 2nd to 1st gear. When/how do you actually know when to stay in 2nd gear even though you've slowed the car enough to go into gear 1 but have enough power to just stay in gear 2 and accelerate.
