These ladies are custom maid (😏) for double reactions 🎸 It’s no exaggeration to say that Band Maid play music with a variety of sounds that sometimes get them compared to bands like the Beatles. They have thrash heavy metal, hair metal rock, progressive, jazz-influenced cinematic rock, radio pop/fun stuff, and even slow jams that tug heartstrings. One of the most dramatic two-fers would be “Domination.” The song is cool, but the music video feels restrained and formulaic. The live? Completely alive. Rearranged and extended with solos from everyone. And a crowd cheering them on the whole time More? Of course. “Don’t you tell ME,” both versions are great, but the Yokohama live, once again…solos!! 🎉

You can listen in any order you like. Their new stuff will not spoil you for the older ones. They were magic from the first. If you hear one of their songs without grinning like an idiot or looking for the kleenex, it means you didn't listen closely enough.

There are many unique aspects to Real Existence that sets it apart from many rock songs: the starts and stops, Miku's little breakout vocal line, Akane's double tempo gallop, and Kamani's solo. I mean, who would ever put that kind of solo in a rock song? But it works... just like all of the plot-twists, complex density, and genre-merging they employ on most of their material. Thx, Graxus!

Another great choice and doing the studio than the live is a really great way to see their progression and they do get better and better. When Saiki and MISA were fooling around it was because Saiki didn't have her shoes on, she had taken them off to go into the women's section and didn't get them back on in time. During Kanami's solo, she put them back on. Also, when you see the members crowd around the drummer (Akane) they're playing a game of making funny faces at her to see if they can make her make a mistake, she never does.

@@graxusgaming9889 if you are doing the songs how they are chronologically sorted on KZread, your 4th song, Alone, is the first song they composed entirely themselves. You should probably do the song Freedom close to Alone. They are on the same album. Freedom never got a music video, but it has a spectacular live performance that they published on their channel in 2020.

Their recorded music is great, well crafted and polished. Their live music is great too, raw and passionate. It's all good. There is no "correct" way to go through their discography. All their songs are good. You can tape all the titles to a dart board and choose that way, they're all good. About the time you've figured out how hard they can go, you'll hear an acoustic song that seems to be written for you and sung directly to you, personally. It will touch your heart and it will be your new favorite! You'll see! They are truly artists.

Akane, showing she was a beat on drums from the off. Kanami, performs solos in most songs. However they are often fairly short. It can easily be argued that leaving people wanting more, is a good thing. You can see how amazing Band Maid are live.

Anything they do in the studio, they take to the stage and in most cases (as you just seen) is a lot better. Miku is a very smart lady. She wanted to start a band but needed to stand out from the rest - She used to work at a "Maid Cafe" in Japan so, enter the outfits. I didn't like the outfits when I first seen a thumbnail 5 or so years ago ... although I did wonder. A few months later I give em a go to see what all the fuss was about and realised how unbelievably talented these guys are - they ARE the real deal. Excellent songwriters, musicians, performers and just genuinely humble human beings.

Band-Maid (Kanami) does write their songs where there is, for the most part, All-In towards the end of the song/after last chorus. You'll really see it in "Blooming" and later in "Manners". Well it seems you're hooked past the barb so here's a little something to help you on your Band-Maid journey. Band-Maid Is: Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums, Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because she eats lots of bananas for her stamina and is a BEAST on drums. Lost her little hat back in 2018....a sad day indeed. MISA (Mee-sah) - Bass Guitar, Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin" MISA always performs barefoot as she states she likes to feel the music through her feet, and "kills" everything she plays. Kanami Tono (Kah-nah-mee) - Lead Guitar/Genius Songwriter Nickname: "Mincho" “Kanamincho” ……Miku’s guitar Sensei. Miku Kobato (Mee-koo) - Band-Maid Spokesperson/Rhythm Guitar/Lyricist/Founder/Backing Vocals/Lead Vocals…hardest working girl in music. Nickname: "Little Pigeon" (Miku’s surname means “Little Pigeon”) ....po! Getting caught up in Band-Maid means going down the “Pigeon Hole”…….. no rabbits here. Saiki Atsumi (Sy-kee) -Lead Vocals Nickname: "The Princess" “Si-chan”. Saiki may be called The Princess but Miku is The Queen…..also Saiki is Kanami’s “crush”.

Several years ago, I started diving down the rabbit hole of Japanese music for several weeks, starting because of an old article Metal Hammer posted on Facebook. It was about a prog rock band called Lightbringer. KZread started suggesting all kinds of bands. Many were weird. The gimmicks got a bit much for me. I ignored the suggestions for BAND-MAID for 2-3 weeks thinking they were going to be squeaky, nauseatingly cute pop like so many of the other gimmick bands I'd seen. I finally gave in and watched Thrill. It surprised me. It was OK, but it had a great sound. I watched this next and I was blown away. The 1st thought that popped into my head was "Who is this band and why have I not heard of them before?".

Very nice decision to watch both. And yes, "Real Existence" is from the same (second!) album as "Thrill" and the MV is also from that time period. Before I get to some recommendations for a next song, let's get back to their first(!) album with at least one great song named "Forward". They played it at their Christmas Acoustic Concert (not public available). There is no other good quality live video available but a video from their radio show 'BAND-MAID NIPPON' (with only Miku and Saiki): kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXhqrI-sXZfZo7g.html And that song is also a great introduction to the Band Maid Community Discord project (BMCD) where many MAIDIAC musicians cover Band Maid songs: www.youtube.com/@bmcdoa Back to your journey after "Real Existence": The album "New beginning" has some more great songs like ... 'Freezer' (kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmt7krh-oLrKj6Q.htmlsi=RTQvqokrtLr7eCcy and one of the bast BMCD covers: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mqd7qbeij8ezfNI.htmlsi=Mau8xRb8MHiDrmjU) "Don't let me down", WARNING: lyrics only for adults 😅: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Yo172behl5W-fs4.htmlsi=ljxPc7tTPPtRqEiA "Beauty and the Beast". a Miku song with a surprise: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p2iAj6tpZJTQmdY.htmlsi=1RX39srrHcqjW6rH). And for the next album "Brand new Maid" you have to checkout "Freedom" (LIVE), one of the best live performances: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHyk16eqfaTJdMo.htmlsi=OMwbefdmZGvJGjGH "Alone" (MV), their first own composition: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6x6l5iiZNbWmdI.htmlsi=wC1oxK7skKFfAXSI But I already told you that in my last Thrill-comment, didn't I.😀Po! The double reactions are a great way to compare live to studio. In Band-Maid's case, both are going to be great! Starting with the early songs and working your way to the new ones is a good way to see how the band has evolved, but the older songs are lacking nothing, the whole catalog is great! Enjoy the ride down the Pigeon Hole, Po!

Some Easter Eggs, in the live Real Existence performance. Saiki is shoeless, since she took off her shoes, during the immediately preceding rendition of FREEDOM. She was half-climbing out among part of the crowd, and didn't want to stab anyone. She wasn't able to re-shoe before the next song. (Of course, MISA always goes without shoes when performing.) Notice Saiki giving a quick, but *clearly intentional*, middle finger at 9:37 in Graxus' video. Maybe someone was bothering her about the shoe thing, or something else, in her in-ear mike? We don't know! Thanks for the great reaction, Graxus! I caught BAND-MAID for a live show in the US, last year. As amazing as you'd expect, and more.

If you’re doing it in order then “Don’t Let Me Down” will be pretty soon. There are no subtitles in the video, but you need to look them up. It’s their “naughty” song. It’s technically all in English, but their accents are still very pronounced at this point. They’ve gotten better since then. This is from an era of the band where they had song writers from the label that wrote and worked with the ladies on the songs. So we joke that they didn’t know what they were singing and were tricked! But they absolutely knew what that song was about.

No disrespect intended, but live is almost always worse. The whole point of a studio recording is you can play parts over and over and over to get them right. Live you have to live with your mistakes. Sometimes that can make a song better - we've all heard clearly over-produced stuff - but generally not. BAND-MAID's official lives, like every other band's official live songs, have been scrubbed up and re-mixed. They ARE one of the best live bands on the planet, but when you see them in person, live mixes are hit or miss.
