1:20 Not sure if you misspoke or not But it's the other way around. Aldi bought Trader Joe's. There are actually 2 Aldi companies, Aldi Süd (South) and Aldi Nord (north). Aldi Nord bought Trader Joe's and the Aldi you got in the US is Aldi Süd. The split into 2 companies resulted from a fight between the brothers who were the owners of Aldi. They then decided as to not compete with each other too much they'll just split Germany (where Aldi started) in half. That's how the 'South' and 'North' part in their company comes from. Both companies stores are basically identical in how they work but in Germany where both stores are available the products do differ. Most countries just get one or the other store with America being a small exception that both companies are in the market but one just took over an already existing store (Trader Joe's of course) and doesn't operate like their Aldi stores do.

One brother Karl Albrecht thought that selling cigarettes would attract shoplifters whilst the younger brother Theo thought it wouldn't so rather than cause friction in the family, they amicably split the business their mother started into 2 fair halves that either could run as they saw fit. The brothers lived close to one another and although very private, the quarreling siblings appears more the product of gossip magazines rather than hard news.

but Traders Joe has a different concept (even having the same core business model). the two ALDIs do not compete with each other but share the world by spliting ...

1:24 Trader Joe's was bought by Aldi Nord in 1979. The original Aldi company split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd when the founders disagreed on wether to sell cigarettes or not. Aldi Nord operates in the US under the Trader Joe's label since they bought the company, while Aldi Süd operates under the Aldi name in the US (note that it is Aldi, not Aldi's. There is no s at the end). Aldi Nord is not part of Trader Joe's - Trader Joe's is part of Aldi Nord. Aldi Süd, including all the Aldi markets in the USA, is unaffiliated to Trader Joe's.

What most fascinates me about the US Aldi is, that they really have the exact same floor tiles as our Aldi in Germany :D Do they import them??

They probably do, or they try a supplier that can make very similar ones. It also looks the same as my local one in Portugal. I work for a big automotive group that sells Porsche, and one of our Porsche dealer locations just got renovated and everything inside was imported from Germany including the tiles.

1:25 Wrong, Trader Joes is part of Aldi and only from Aldi North, not Aldi South! Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd are two different companies set up by fractious brothers, both offering roughly the same thing but are separate companies, at least for now! (Both companies want to slowly get closer again after the death of both brothers!) And for the American market, Trader Joe's is Aldi North and Aldi is Aldi South. (Trader joe's was bought by Aldi in 1979, by the way.) But I'm sure one or the other German has already written that here 😂

Trader Joes and Aldi are both Aldi. In Germany there were two brothers inheriting Aldi. One founded Aldi North, one Aldi South. And both went into the US market. As Aldi and Trader Joes.

Not quite. Trader Joe's was founded independently in 1967 in California and the chain was bought by Theo Albrecht in 1979. It is still owned by his family but operates independently from Aldi.

In North America Aldi Nord bought Trader Joe's in 1979 whilst Aldi Sud operate as just Aldi. The products in both Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord are often quite similar, good quality offerings with the savings from things like needless packaging or no longer employing staff to collect dumped carts being passed onto customers.

1:25 Just a small correction. In 1979 the original Trader Joe's Company became part of the Aldi North Group. So Trader Joe's is a Part of Aldi North. The US-american Aldi's are part of the Aldi South Group. So in The USA the two ALDI Brothers were direct competetors but decided to "wear" different names while in Europe they split Germany and the continent in two parts by contract with the target that the one brother don't take away the customers of the other and that both of their family's can have still an uncomplicated connection with each other.

The reason ALDI locks their shopping carts, bc here in Germany, "some people" tend to take the carts to their homes, they walk with them home. Can u believe this??? Love it, they do it in US, too. HAHA....hilarious......😂😂😂

Aldi is a Sweedish/German grocery store. Alot of their items are imported from Sweden and Germany. Everything they do is the Swedish or German way, even down to putting a quarter in the cart so they don't have to pay employees to get carts.

Unfortunately this is the one of most American-os videos I seen. They are hyped, they believe anything they read on packaging. They are making a mistake to call anything " very cheap" as a 5 dollars for package of nuts that shoul cost a half . They are so unnatural and fake.
