First Test! Federal Signal 2001-SRNB: Steady/Alert Signal - Koylton Twp, MI - 6/7/23

Ғылым және технология

Date🗓: 6/7/23
Signal(s)🔈: Steady (Alert)
Duration⏱: 3 minutes
Location📍: Koylton Twp, Tuscola County, Michigan
First full test of this new refurbished 2001-SRNB. This is also Koylton Twp’s first tornado siren ever installed. Since Tuscola County does not have a central remote control system for their sirens, this siren is programmed to activate automatically for Tornado Warnings via NOAA Weather Radio EAS tones, which means the siren must be manually tested on site. West Shore Services installed a manual push button at about eye level as an easy way to test the siren and it worked well. It was an honor to be the first one to test the siren! Tim Reinhardt and the township clerk were also present for the test!
July 2023 Update: This siren is now programmed to receive Required Weekly Tests from the National Weather Service every Wednesday which will trigger the “silent test” function on the siren. Now the siren’s radio can be tested without waiting for a Tornado Warning to be issued.

The town I used to live in has a Federal Signal STH-10. I moved a few years ago to a different town and they have a Sterling M-10 and Gamewell Diaphone Horns, both were used by the fire department for emergency calls. I used to be a volunteer firefighter before I moved in the town I currently live in. I was a volunteer firefighter in Western New York for two years.

Usually I only seen someone activate the siren with the main controls but here I didn't know there were smaller ones or if the town or city did install that

EAS tones ay? That's what I love about the Federal Signal FCH. It can decode EAS, and other data methods, and you can customize it to decode for anything you want!
