Bigger cubes will drop boost, changing the cam can affect boost. Superchargers are moving a fixed volume of air at a given RPM. Boost is just a measure of resistance to flow. So if you increase the volume of air the engine can flow, you reduce the resistance against (boost) a given volume of air through the motor. The supercharger is still flowing the same volume of air, the engine just moves more volume than it did before. Also, under driving a supercharger will result in less boost… you’re spinning the charger fewer times per revolution of the crank. Not sure if you mis spoke or I misunderstood what you were saying. If you had it at 1:1 and want more boost you gotta over drive the supercharger

@pastaalalamborghini^^^well said, higher displacement and changing the cam means more CC's of air needing to be filled by the supercharger. Need to overdrive the supercharger and Re-Jet the carbs to get better results. Though I am sure it is still producing a pretty significant more power than before!

Hey Boys, I think you are confused about over-driven and under-driven. When you "over" drive a blower that means you are spinning the blower pulley faster than the crankshaft (larger pulley on the crank, smaller pulley on the blower drive). When you "under" drive the blower the crankshaft is spinner faster than the blower (small pulley on the crank, big puller on the blower). Just for reference - if you have an overdrive high gear your crankshaft is turning slower than the drive shaft and under drive gear gives you a slower drive shaft, faster crankshaft. Hope this helps. 👍 Great content, keep rippin' it up!

Positive pressure is positive pressure. Doesn’t matter if it’s turbo or blower. You’re only making 6psi vs the 5psi before even after swapping pulleys is because you have better flowing heads and a better camshaft Boost is a measure of restriction. Bigger cam, better flowing heads, less restriction, less boost However it’s still seeing more airflow so even though boost numbers are the same, it’s making more power

Love seeing a JH video post. Much respect for posting those rocker arms coming loose. You could have just as easily left that part out and no one would ever know. When a man has a lot going on it’s easy to miss the small things sometimes. Maybe this will remind someone to check their rocker arms from coming loose and possibly save a motor, you just never know

Big blocks can be hard on valvetrain stuff, especially with a big cam and spinning some rpm's. if you start having problems with it, you can always increase the size of the studs, or run a rocker stud girdle, or both. a lot of drag race guys go this route, but a lot of them dont have a lot of problems until they are making over 4 digit power levels or revving them over 7k.

  • @PowerWash2022

You need a small engine to turn more rpm in the mud. That new engine is going to blow up by the 3rd or 4th event with that blower on a big engine turning high rpm.

I think the blower moves a fixed volume of air. Boost is the resistance to that volume of air. An engine with better heads, a better cam, etc... can move more air, less resistance to the blower, less boost. I'd imagine its making more power at the lower boost numbers now moving more air.

If you have a bigger or better flowing cam then before itll have less restriction so the boost will be lower. Also if the cam has to much vavle overlap (las) it will blow the boost out of the exhaust. And being bigger displacement it takes more air to fill the cylinders

  • @midwestdave33

Boost is a measure of air flow restriction, you increase the air flow with bigger camshaft and bigger cylinder heads so the engine is flowing more air through it and therefore shows less boost. Less boost is not necessarily a bad thing and if you increase the boost to the same reading it showed before it's going to make an incredible amount more horsepower.

Thing sounds great guys, as far as where you’re Boost level is you can look at boost charts on line and they’ll give you a pretty close estimate where you’re at with your cubic inch and what number of teeth you’re running on your pulleys. (And of course there’s other factors that play in also like compression and what cylinder heads your running ect) Your top pulley looks pretty small so I doubt if you’re underdriven, my 498BBC with an 8-71 at 8.4:1 compression makes 9 pounds of boost Running it 1 to 1, nice work guys🏁🏁

I'm not expert either but it does make sense
