First Start of the Blue Talbot Sunbeam LOTUS After 6 YEARS!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

First Start of the Blue Talbot Sunbeam LOTUS! It's been in storage for over 6 years now....the time has come to wake her up. In this episode we sort out the mechanical side of things and see if we can breathe some life back into the legendary LOTUS engine!
We don't usually get in finished cars for restoration! This Sunbeam LOTUS had a full nut and bolt restoration but all didn't go to plan in the place that did the paint. The customer brought us the car to try and fix the defects but we found a lot more problems than we thought we would........

    That pit-lift platform looks very handy but you really need a lie-down trolley under there, and it will also help keep your back warmer and dryer too. (I thought nothing of lying on cold concrete 20 years ago but not any more).

    Yuasa YBX1038 battery fits with a small modification. Theres some plastic tabs at bottom that need grinded down. Nothing off the shelf I am aware off that doesnt require a modification. Only takes a few mins. Theres a halford equivilant to this battery as well that needs same mod.

    That flexible pipe from the heater matrix round to the front by the cam-belt, ideally should have an aluminium pipe section across the front on a bracket to keep it from moving…too much rubber floating about when it all gets hot…

    Another great video guys. Really look forward to seeing and following all your work. Love those old giant carbs! Are they Weber DCOE 40's do I remember? Lewis, please may I ask you a question. I notice you use a twin cartridge respirator like I use for spraying, can you still smell paint fumes even with a new respirator? Someone told me that you should not smell paint at all, but I still can smell quite a bit, particularly when spraying clearcoat, and my respirators seal perfectly even though I have a beard like you!

    Those carbs are Dellortos.... lovely sound out of them! It's tricky spraying with a beard, sometimes you can smell paint through them, most of the time you can't. Really should be wearing an air fed mask when painting to be safe.... something we shall be doing, we do have one but we're looking to upgrade!

  • @bobfrankish972

    @bobfrankish972

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@WhitelandRestorations Thanks Lewis. You are 100% right, but air fed just not feasible for the DIY'er I'm afraid. Massive compressor needed, very expensive filtration + cost of the mask. If I sprayed day in, day out I would definitely have to invest. I use the Gerson 8000 series respirator, which used to be the only mask that actually said it was isocyanate safe. Just to be sure, I e-mailed Gerson in the states and I have a nice reply from the guy that actually designed that respirator. He says that it has been tested and is safe for isocyanates up to 36 hours continuous use, after which you have to buy another or change the cartridges. I watch a few professional painters who have KZread channels, and many of them use cartridge respirators.
