Pop Physics Lecture: Doesn't have to be going fast when it's also heavy and stopped quickly. Average impact force = change in momentum divided by change in time (collision duration). Average force F = dp/dt, where momentum p = mass x velocity, dp = change in momentum, dt = change in time, or impact/collision duration. So, for a heavy object, even moving relatively slowly, to be brought to a halt abruptly (dt = small) means a very large avg force! This can be easily seen using caps letters for large quantities.....avg F = d(M x v) / dt if your recall your 2nd grade division course....the smaller dt is the larger avg F is. Note: product rule from 3rd grade calculus: d(M x v) = dM x v + M x dv but unless parts fall off the truck, there is no appreciable change in mass m, so d(M x v) = M x dv. So...impact force is proportional to the mass (of the truck), magnitude of the velocity (speed), and inversely proportional to the duration (dt). Let's put it altogether....Let M = mass of truck, let v_i and v_f be velocity magnitudes before and after impact (v_f = 0), and finally, dt be the impact duration. The average impact force F = M x (0 - v_i) / dt = - v_i x M / dt. Note the negative sign in this result. It tells us that in order for the truck to be brought to a halt, the force acting on it MUST be in the opposite direction to its motion. Cool. Anywho, since M is huge, and dt is small, there will be appreciable impact force which clearly decreases with speed. If someone has the mass of the truck (in kg where there are roughly 2.2lbs/kg here on earth), an estimate of its speed on impact (in m/s where 1 m/s = approx 2.24 MPH), and an estimate of the impact duration...I would guess somewhere between 0.25 and 1 second. The average force will be in Newtons but you can convert that to pound-force using 1 N = 0.2248 lb-force. Anyway, in a nutshell there was a hell of a lot of force during the impact even if the truck was only rolling 5 mph.

I smell a detroit falling out of a engine cavity and a cummins going in its place. I don't know how it ever turned that fifteen speed in the first place. I drove one with that set up in a off highway heys truck up on the prince of whales island and I couldn't get it rolling fast enough on any flat to get up on the top gears with one hundred fifty thousand pd., loaded (gross) I hated that detroit so bad but then I started driving with a fellow who gave me a job that no one else would drive and that was a auto car with a 8-53 and there is the definition of boat anchor and it was highway truck. It took me all day to make two trips if I loaded first (log trucks) I finally drove long enough for him that another guy gave me a job driving and it was a little three fifty and a five and four but it was a dream as I kept up and drove the wheels off it. He got a newer truck and out of all the guys there (six) I got that big cam two with a dime button, It was a big improvement and I could load last in the morning and get my trips and if there was enough light left then I would head for the landing and load myself with a anything that would leave the landing cleaner and not hurt the next days loads for the morning. He constantly handed me a fifty here and there. There is meat left in the white even if it ain't my first choice of trucks cause the parts are so dang heavy. I finally gave up driving for wrenches as there is way more money and same tired

That filter box is factory! I got a 1980 water truck with the 290 in it and that the same setup. Great motor, mines in a Freightliner with a 15 speed roadranger. Walks right down the road with 3250 gals of water and up to 500 gal of various chemicals in 2 toats. Fired right up! And went right to full song like a champ!
Damn that thing must have been hauling ass to cause that much damage.
Lots of good parts left on that truck
That was a really strong tree.
I can’t wait for the future to see what the “plans” are! 😂
The old White didn’t sound bad . It’s a “ wounded soldier “ He looked like he was ready to go back to work. I’ll be interested to see what you do with that truck. I’m hoping you don’t beat it to death . I like your shop set up 👍
My guess is: you want to swap this engine into your tour bus.
Those NTC Cummins where damn good engines!
Hello KT Ahhh a big cam block At least you’ve got a good engine to base with Install Big cam 400 pistons Aftercooler Pulse exhaust manifold Lose the fat turbo Set your timing at about 80 Screw the throttle shaft out a bit Put a no. 10 button in inject pump That otta get ya about 475 hp Put it in that silver bullet and let er fly Larry

That thing came from my days when I used to rebuild the old 855 Cummins. Not surprised at all that it cranked right off. Oh what a sweet sound!!! Drove many trucks with an 855 Cummins under the hood. We're talking back in the 80s before the government-mandated emissions regulations.
You're like a younger version of Western Truck And Tractor Repair.
40 year old iron that has been sitting for so long, fires right up once it has the juice in the batteries.
Pretty good testimony the old tiny 290 fired right up

Early NTC block, has 1 inch main bolts with locks in the bolt heads.. Really good blocks to use for new builds as the main caps aren’t fretted all to hell from “an ole boy turnin it up “..

Unless there's a hole in side of block, it's going to run, it's a Cummins!! Best engine ever!!
Merry chrismas and Happy new year to one of the best and family.
Those cabs are very nice looking too
Great video thanks for showing
I love your channel!!
A MACK would have took the tree out
its got a great motor sounds good
damn good stuff man 👍
Now this one should get a second chance at life but with a 400hp pump and injectors because these are still a popular engine
that 855 sounds hella good wide open
Happy Christmas everyone
Sweet haul of steel 👍
I always thought a big hammer and an adjustable wrench was all you need, I like your set-up, a big hammer and an impact wrench, maybe a torch occasionally.
You got a fellow brother up north, zip ties sent me your way. Give him a shout
I built a jet engine out of one of those turbochargers. Cool to see where it actually came from...
I'll watch it no matter what you decide.
Never clicked so fast onto one of your videos. (Other than the one where you made the Detroit throw a rod, haha).
KT3406E - I really liked that air filter tool. I have to get one of those myself!!! :)
That's a beauty
Old Roadway tractors with the nine - 0 nothing Cummins had SAE #1 steel bell housing if there's one in a yard near you . Oh and they also had air starters too .But we all know whats in store i think 😂🤪👍❤️

Maybe empty a 20 pound propane tank in the turbo outlet. What can you do to get enough fuel to the engine to turn like at least 4 grand?

did the snow hit yet?
Would you consider selling the 74’ white? Looks like spring over type walking beam, what rears are under it? Been looking for a 318 powered tractor with Hendrickson beam dusk and an 8ll or a 15 for dirt work pulling a 26’ end dump.
That bell housing crack is hardly noticeable.
Could you repair the damage and make it road worthy again or would it be worth the effort.
