    The early GM, Ford and Chrysler motors were pretty simple beasts. As long as they weren’t locked up really bad with a bit of tinkering you can usually get them up and running. The starter motor tutorial was excellent. You’ve got a working motor and somewhere there is a bloke in a shed with an empty engine bay. Be a shame for her to not see the open road again. Your call. 👍

    Hey Brent, Repco has a special on cans of brake cleaner. 2 for $12 if you’re a member. Considering you run the FC on brake cleaner might save you a buck.😂

    Good to see it running I watched the episode when you picked up the old FC and I had a bet with my son that you will get it running now I'm $50 richer 😁. I picked up a fc last year that sat in a open tin shack of about 20 year's I hot wire it sprayed degreaser and it started straight away then I clean the carby put 45s Toyota hydraulic clutch master clean the slave , I was driving it around the block 2 days later with no break's ,

    My favourite engine...tough as due to sloppy tolerances. I boiled mine after l hit a crow, it got that hot l could hear fluids boiling on shut down. Let it cool off overnight,topped it up n ran fine, that body got nailed, put it in another body for 3 years before selling it

    Awesome video. The starter education part was spot on mate. I'm impressed the old Grey ghost lives again. Tbh I'm not surprised it fired up because they are tuff old engines. Holden made good cars. I kind of feel sad the old girls body is dead . Anyway I enjoy the vids.

    Did the same thing with a VF ute I parted. Worth more running than dead. Used same idea for fuel tank except i was lucky fuel pump worked. Oh regarding the commutator, in a very past life as an armature winder, we would grind an arrow head into a broken hacksaw blade and use this to put a chamfer on the segments as you dragged it down the slot. On the other end of the blade we would grind a hook to clear the slots of overhanging copper.

    That old sludgy still sounds sweet. Doesn’t seam smokey from the exhaust or breather ether. You’re the same as me, I’m sometimes a bit of a bush Machanic, (there are times when you have to be) I have “basically” and at times very basically repaired starters, alternators and a host of other things just to keep the wheels rolling. That part you filed using the drill on the armature I think is the slip ring? All though,I’m not an electrician either.Lol😂. I enjoyed watching your video..

    I love how much input other GM divisions had on Holden , the 130 ci and 138 ci Grey Motors share much with the Chev Blue Flame Six , even later 130 ci , 138ci ( before anyone pipes up and says " there was no 130 or 138 red motor , they were LC Torana options , the 130 red only sold in LC s in Malaysia), 149 ci , 161ci , 173ci, 179ci , 186ci and 202 ci Red Holden Sixes share so much with the Chev Red 199ci, 250 ci and 292ci Six motors of the same period if they are not side by side good luck telling them apart , even though the Chev Sixs had Chev V8 Bellhousing pattern , just think of a LC or LJ GTR XU1 with a Chev Red 292ci or 4.9 litre Six , triple side draught webbers and a Saginaw 4speed manual, bolts rite in the same location, same mounts , gearbox length as aussie 4speed ( as this is were the aussie 4speed came from the Saginaw 4 speed) same output splines , linkage . That would be a cool different XU1 that with 4.9 litres would go hard , just put 186 stickers on the tappet cover , you would be hard pressed to find an Aussie mechanic who noticed the difference ! As for our early 253ci and 308ci Red V8s, well they are almost a copy of an Oldsmobile 307 ci to 403ci Small Block , these are the only 2 GM V8s to share intake port location and exhaust port location , same alloy rocker bridges , same 8 deg valve angles, same 153 tooth ring gear, same right hand side starter location , same intake design, the only difference is chev bore spacing .

    Wow that’s a wealth of information and knowledge right there , I can confirm the 138 red in a Torana as I have seen one in person . Also the input spline on the GM goes right back into the late 20s I believe . Cheers man , thanks for your input 👌🏽👌🏽

    Good job telling the inexperienced people NOT to hit the solenoid casing. I knew that it was the brushes that caused the ‘click of death’. Any time I take a hammer to a starter motor, I avoid the solenoid and give the motor casing a decent tap.

  • @unclebrentsshed4253

    @unclebrentsshed4253

So the FC had to go 🤔and on came my first Valiant a AP5 followed by my younger brothers also buying Valiants . Even so that old FC was in good nick still in 73 .
