Strange how a patch of ground can look really flat. ...until you pitch your tent on it, then it becomes like a ski slope! Well done, great video.

I was so tired on my first wild camp adventure that I didn't even had time to be worried, I just got inside the sleeping bag and in less than 10 seconds I fell asleep, and then I never really worried anymore about being alone in the dark in the middle of nowhere. In fact I liked it so much this year I went on a 3 month wild camp journey, arrived home a week ago.

Well done for taking yourself out of your comfort zone Grace. I guarantee that you are perfectly safe when wild camping in the UK. There's nothing scary out there. The only threat comes from the weather, especially the wind and that's where having the best gear pays for itself but you will learn that over time. Just a small tip about choosing a flat enough spot to pitch which was taught to me many years ago: It sounds simplistic but it works. When you think you've found the right spot take your pack off and lie down on the grass in different positions. You will know instantly if any slight slope is tolerable. Keep up the adventures and embrace being out of your comfort zone. That's when you're most alive.

I started by buying really good gear. Glad I did. We've been caught out by bad weather twice wild-camping on Dartmoor and had to pitch very quickly because visibility just disappeared. I figured buying good equipment would be cheaper than constantly upgrading everything. Your tip about lying on the ground is a good one. We do this, but we lay the groundsheet down first to avoid getting muddy and wet when we test for flatness. Wild-camping is a wonderful adventure. Tiring, but very rewarding.

In the past, I’ve spent a few nights sliding around in my tent. However, I now take with me a small amount of IKEA rubber matting that you normally put under a rug on a hard floor. It comes in a roll and it’s cheap and lightweight and you can cut it to size so that it goes between your inflatable mat and the tent floor. You only need a piece a bit shorter than your back length. No more waking up with your face pressed against the side of the tent or with your feet sticking out of the bottom.

Did you have any issues parking in the free parking layby areas? I had a parking ticket last time. Apparently your not allowed to park overnight there.

@@NORTHERNEXOTICS I actually paid to park in ogwen cottage carpark due to it being closer… so not on this occasion but I’ve parked overnight in the lay-bys several times before and had no issue.

That flicker of the light and your camera can be fixed by changing the camera from pal to ntsc or vice versa as it’s normally to do with the LED and the frames per second. Next time you have that flicker change that setting it will stop it normally :)

I will never understand why people go in to amazing nature places and play music... seriously just enjoy sound of nature and silence of mountains. Plus you might see and experience some wild life if you quiet enough!

Very nice and well done. An absolutely stunning looking location especially that sunset. Anyone who hasn't done something like this is missing a great experience. Solo hiking/camping can teach you so much about yourself.

Great vid, even better scenery with a spectacular sunrise. We can't always have the best pitches but, like you said, we live and learn. Thanks for unpacking for us, we all learn from each other about tried and tested methods and gear. Thanks Grace.
