First Ride: Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride

Спорт

The Yeti SB130 LR takes the wildly popular SB130 platform and gives it just a bit more cushion; with a slightly longer-stroked shock and a 160mm fork. Ryan Palmer digs into the details, and tells you why if the SB130 is just a bit stiff for you and the SB150 is too gooey, then the SB130 Lunch Ride might be just right.

    Everything you said here Ryan goes slightly against your latest "peeve" vid.. about overforking bikes..lol, but ya with a bike like the yeti & how well they pedal I'm sure it'll work just as well.. Which is exactly why I'm going to take my SB100's 120fork to 130mm up front & maybe if the rear can be converted then I'll bring that up to 115mm travel also. 😛👏🏼🚲💨 At least I hope 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I'm pretty sure the lunch ride has the same shock as the regular 130, just with a travel reducer removed. So everyone who has a 130 can make it 137 by removing the plastic reducer.

    Oliver Sweezy Yep, it’s a black aluminum spacer in the shock that limits the travel. Open the air canister and clip it off.

    Oliver, you are correct. All they do is remove that and you get that 7mm more of travel. It's a basically a plastic spacer, if you will. DVO does this as well in their rear shocks and so does RS on some of theirs. If you have a 130, remove it and there you have it!

    You can do the same with the Commencal Meta TR29. It has 130mm travel standard with a shock of 210x50. But when you change the stroke to 210x55 you have 143mm of travel.

    Hi. Is there a formula to calculate the length of your rear travel travel?

  • @fcbotieno

    @fcbotieno

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@amator129 there is...to simplify, through leverage, the rear travel is determined by shock stroke. 210mm eye to eye shock with 50mm stroke on my example suspension gives 130mm of travel. So maintaining 210mm but increasing stroke to 55mm, is an increase of 10% over 50mm(5 is 10% of 50). Stroke determines the travel, 5mm(10%) more stroke gives 10% more travel. 10% of 130 is 13. Original travel is 130mm via 50mm stroke, add 10% you get 143mm via 55mm stroke. I'll try to post my work on quora tomorrow. I also did formulas on angular distance(for the rear travel) aswell. Ill add the link soon.

Heavier set rider, bigger brakes, travel and capability for $400 upgrade was a no brainer for local so cal riding. Better mid stroke and progression set up. Yeah, you can increase the travel on the SB130 but that already-low BB will drop a bit more, which would suck for many riders in rocky terrain. For them, the 160 fork would give them back the lost mm of BB height. I love everything about the 140 and the 130 LR but I do not like the low BB, which keeps me from buying it.

    I honestly didn’t think the normal 130 was much lighter feeling or better at climbing then the 150~ I think they made the LR for those that are just a bit shy to buy or scared of owning a bike that’s in the “150’s category” not a huge difference tho from my experience as far as 130 being much more “playful/lighter & easier handling” vs the 150.. maybe I’m nutts and just love bigger feeling bikes, but the 130 was really high on my list of bikes I wanted to like more then any others, & it was a mild letdown for this rider. If I was to have justified owning the 130 it would have seen a longer 160 fork & maybe that’s why I need to try the 130LR just to see if it’s any more confident then the OG 130 🤘🏼 Great reviews as always & I’d love to know what you guys think on how the Forbidden Druid compares to the 130LR 🕺🏻 or maybe even the new Ripmo V2

    i run my rear shock a bit firmer than plush, but not too firm, so i think its at 27%, i added a volume spacer it was a grey one 0.4, initially i didn't put enough pressure and i suffered alot on the climb so next ride i added more pressure and it help, on my last ride i went up more and it felt solid on the climbs and i didn;t notices it letting me down on the descends, so dont go past plush(30%) on the sag. fork is at 20% or more but i haven't touch it since i got the bike it feels hard on small bumps but mid strokes on chunky rock gardens is where it comes alive and fun
