    Looks nice Joe! With all those little stobs and sticks left, maybe you should invest in a forestry mulching head for the mini-ex. Surely the Mrs. would allow that.

    I cleaned out an old road at my hunt club like that once. The beavers had gotten to the trees in it and the guy with the bush hog kept popping tires going down it, so it got left uncut for 10 years. Quite the workout.

    I have roads like that on clay on my land. A brush hog several times a year is your best friend. Try not to break through the sod and don't over use it the first year or so. Try to roll out the ruts so water doesn't stand. Deer really like the open paths too, at least around here.

    Thanks man. Usually I like to hit them with round up a couple times in the summer. I may try to let them grow weeds and use the bush hog... Just not sure yet. The other areas like this that have good dirt on top don't erode like the clay areas. So far the other roads I've cut and spray are holding up pretty decent... Its always a work in progress..

    Before you started running equipment up and down it I think the water will speed and wash out some of the road because there isn't any vegetation slowing the water down.

    Not sure what a Harley rake would do with this. (They are like a tiller, but use a drum with big teeth designed to tear out the roots. Also, there are mulching units for chopping down trees and brush that fit on skid steers and mini excavators that will chop trees and stumps/roots etc. and leave you with a smooth ground. We see them a lot out here. FECON is one manufacturer. Not sure they have a unit small enough to fit your mini Ex. Typically they want something comparable to a Cat 308 or larger for the hydraulics. They use about 25 gallons or more flow rates. I know they have one model for the Kubota 080 Mini Ex, and the SVL90 and 95's. tracked skid steer. Pretty certain they can be rented for a few days

    So far, so good. Had a little battery draining issue, but I think we got that cleared up. I haven't really ridden it enough yet for a full report. I have to get out and 'test' it soon on some serious terrain and mud!!!!

    Hey Joe. When you cut a new trail/ road through the woods, do you plant the trail with deer and turkey forage? I've done that here in Maryland and I've been really lucky. The food plot trail keeps the deer moving up and down my trails, I have a place to walk or ride my ATV on and I can just hook up the bush hog and mow it a couple times and it stays in great shape. Just thought I'd ask and see how you do it. Matt

    Super Trooper I've done that, but don't do it anymore. if I make too much food, they are harder to predict , so I keep the plots hunt able.

    Kapper , from your experience with utlity tractors , would you say theres alot of difference between the typical 40hp tractors and the 60hp tractors . i used to think that the only option for me would be the 60hp range but now i'm thinking that i can do the same with 40hp range , i think the cabs are usually the same size on these tractors and the lifting capacity also , a 40hp has lower weight which i think is good for transportation plus probably alittle better fuel consumption.

  • @kapperoutdoors

    @kapperoutdoors

    Allan Johansen yeah you could probably do anything with a 40 hp. you'll notice the difference in PTO use and things that need more weight, but 40 could do alot.
