i bought mine in december,a brown super nova. it runs beautifully, i am 73 this week ,ridden since 16 and around the fields before that. the meteor is a great bike.

66+ in May. Owned a Suzuki, Kawasaki and 9 BMW'S. Done are days i went over 75 mph. Love my Meteor 350. Got it on July 5 and 120 miles thus far. It got rained on today and no prob with ABS. AGREED ON getting into second gear. Have fun and be safe

I enjoyed your test ride and review of the Meteor. I bought one about two months ago here in the States. I love this little bike. I'm 68 years old and I have been riding bikes for 50 years now. I've ridden everything from a 90cc Enduro to a Suzuki 1000 , and a bunch in between. When looking for a new bike the Meteor checked every box for me. It's smooth, It handles well, the seating position is near perfect, comfortable seat and gets outstanding gas mileage. For me at this stage of my life it's the perfect bike for me. 🤣. Funny. I guess my expectations of a 20hp bike at 200kg were not high. And it was genuine surprise and delight. If I had garage space (and hadn’t recently ordered a Scram and a CCM Six) I’d have one too.

Nice review. My reaction was the same when I test road a Meteor 350. I've had mine since January and I simply love this bike!

Thanks David. Did you expect it to be like that? I must admit that my expectations were low, and it really was a genuine surprise. I guess I’ve been conditioned to think that 20hp is not enough as the figures for other bikes get higher and higher (to the point you can’t use the performance anywhere other than a racetrack)

Thanks! I would have gone further, and done the fox house, burbage bridge loop (good suspension test, and a nice spot to stop with Higger Tor in the background) but I only had 40 mins due to me being late. They are great at Manhattan, I’ll be picking up a different RE from them in a few weeks time. 😉

Thanks Greg. I hope more people get to try one. On paper alone the specs are uninspiring, but as with most bikes it’s how they make you feel, and for that, this is pretty special, regardless of the spec sheet.

Really nice to hear an honest appraisal of a motorcycle that perhaps had been ruled out on a preconception. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the comments which were clearly spoken with a smile on the face. I certainly would consider a machine like this in my garage for days out. I’m fortunate to have an Royal Enfield dealer just minutes away, and will take a trip to view their range. I have a varied selection of bikes and I’m sure this would fit in well. I watch a lot of reviews on KZread, but can honestly say I enjoyed this one due to its honesty. Thanks.

Thanks Andrew. I think I was expecting it to be more like a lower powered bullet 500. It was a nice day, which helped, and on the same day I’d ridden my CB1000R, a Yamaha R7 and Triumph Tiger Sport 660. All the things that I thought might be a problem weren’t, and canal boat comment aside (that was the engine, not the handling or speed) it really was great. I might have another RE arriving in the next couple of weeks 😉, but maybe I now need two. I’m looking forward to trying the Classic 350 and maybe riding it back to back with this. There are some chip options which had a bit of power and torque, at the expense of fuel economy, but with a stock 100+ mpg and a 15 L tank, maybe that would be an improvement on an already excellent bike. I do think RE are getting it right with their new models, from the 650 Twins, Himalayan and now this, they do seem to be able to produce cheap, simple and interesting bikes that sell in huge numbers!

Their engineering and design philosophy appears unique and seems to mirror a different philosophy in life. Maybe more of us need to learn to change our motorcycling and life philosophies, so we can hear bird songs more often. Stay well and safe Andre.

I own the bike. Has a nice throaty sound and good ergonomics. The gearbox is brilliant -the ratios are well designed where you could stay in each gear at decent speed and fifth gear is an actual overdrive -only needed on highway speeds. Smooth acceleration good comfort and the heel toe shifter is very smooth- gives it a classy feel. Thanks mate Allan USA

Good and honest review. I have a Meteor and love it! - With the speed limits we have it doesn't need to be super fast, but its plenty fast enough. The 5th gear really is an overdrive and should be treated as such, so when you were going up that hill, dropping back to 4th would be the way to go. Mine is the Firestorm yellow and I had the windscreen and touring seats with backrest fitted and it looks amazing.

Thanks Chris, and yes, there is a bit of a jump from 4th to 5th, and though 5th is an overdrive there is just about enough to pull it along. I thought it was a really good bike and far exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately too many people will dismiss them due to spec sheets without actually trying one.

@@PeakMotorcycles You're dead right about the specs thing, but, like you say, the Proof of the pudding is.. etc. Thank goodness we all look for and like different things, or we would all be riding the same bike. I'm 68 years old now, so the temperament of the Meteor suits me just fine. Be well and be happy. :)

It does, but to look at it I wouldn’t have thought it had. It’s definitely a feelgood bike. Not sure how it stacks up for a group ride when everyone else has 100+hp, but for a solo run it’s a delight.

I bought my Meteor in April. already have 1500 km on the clock. drive fantastic. great for relaxed driving.

I think Royal Enfield suprise a lot of people, I think because you can use everything it has rather than just blipping power you can barely use on uk roads , it just makes you feel very involved, love them .

Peak district in bright sunlightis wonderful. The Meteor 350 ist not my style of bike. But as you pointed out, Andre, is that it maybe hits the right buttons for a lot of riders who want to simply enjoy life and scenery. Not close to the edge. For this type of riding you don't need 100 or 200 hp and lots of gizmos. The Meteor is lightish and affordable. Thumbs up from Nürnberg/Germany, Günter

Not my style of bike either! I just thought I’d try one to see. I was amazed! It’s exactly as you say, far from the edge and definitely for enjoying the scenery at less than 100 km/h. Sometimes that is enough!

I've had an Enfield 350T for 15 years now. I love the bike but i don't use it much these days ..... I went out and bought a Meteor last week and it's so much easier to ride and maintain. And it's faster than the old 350!

@PeakMotorcycles The 350T was one of the last of the old cast iron barrelled engined models developed in the 40s but in trials trim. Although built in India in 2007 its very much a relic of a bygone age

Thinking of going to Manhattan's to try out a meteor and scram. Are they quite accommodating when it comes to testing bikes out? Especially if I want to test a couple. This bike ticks a lot of boxes but I'm just worried about it holding 70 on short motorway hops or how it would cope coming up the Chesterfield bypass.

Hi, yes, I’ve always found them to be very helpful. I rode their demo bullet 500 and interceptor 650 back to back a few years ago. It’s probably worth giving them a call though to check that they have both available as demo bikes. (I expect they will, but it is worth asking). I think the Scram might fare better than the meteor at holding 70 though. I know it’s only 60cc more on the scram, but that extra 4hp (20 vs 24) might be the edge that keeps it moving at 70. RE claim the top speed of the Scram to be 80mph and the Meteor to be 71mph. For the latter, 70 uphill on the bypass might be pushing it a bit. Good luck!

@@PeakMotorcycles thanks I really like the meteor but i'm trying to convince myself it's going to be fast enough and really I don't think it will be. I remember going up the bypass at 50 on my 125 and the road seemed to take ages to get up. I'm not expecting 70 as my car only just about manages that. I prefer it to the scam but i do like the scram a lot and as you say it will probably fit my needs better. I would probably be happy just testing the meteor tbh. I'm just curious to how it goes. I think I know what to expect from the scram and I know it will definitely hold 70 even on slightly uphill stretches. I've pedalled up Ringinglow, so I know how steep that is 😃

@@letni9506 I think both are a lot of fun. The finish on the meteor is a bit better perhaps? I guess when you ride them you’ll know which way to go. I rode the Meteor for a bit of fun as 200kg and 20hp doesn’t make a lot of sense really, or didn’t. It was way better than I thought it would be, you just have to reset your expectations a little.

@@PeakMotorcycles when i go places I never really tend to go over 60. Often 50 is enough on the twisty roads. But as you know it's quite hilly in Derbyshire and the peak district and it might annoy me not being able to meet the speed limit up certain hills. I'm used to a 600cc bike but I want to get something more reliable and brand new and the Royal Enfield bikes really take my eye. I'm totally fine with 70mph these days if that's all these bikes will do. I'm just having a hard time envisaging how the meteor pulls in comparison to my old 125 and ninja 250. So I think I'd like to ride one out of curiosity. I think sometimes it's more important the way a bike feels and how comfortable it is than it's top end. The majority of riding I'd do within the meteor's capability. But I need to find out what my opinion is when I get on a dual carriageway. I imagine some people have loved the bike on a short test ride until they found out it's limits after they bought it. Rob Little found that out recently if you've seen his meteor videos. Hopefully I'll get to test one soon.

Royal Enfield has come a long way when it comes to engine refinement.

It has. I’d ridden both carb and efi Bullet 500’s and though they have their charm, for me that’s not enough. By comparison, the new 350 and 411 singles and also the 650 twin are all very refined indeed.

The Meteor is nice but I prefer the Classic. But the Honda CB 350 H'ness is a cut above. You must do a review on the H'ness.

Unknown, it’s the first and only time I’ve ridden a bike with that engine… it sounded ok while riding, so might have been a mic dynamic characteristic that highlighted it more?

In 1989 my lady friend in London picked up my 1954 Royal Enfield g350 single for 250 lb. I had my t e n t drop cloth, sleeping bag and a few other odds and ends in the saddlebags. Rode all over England went to Germany road down to the boot of Italy to take the ferry to Malta went to Tunis to visit my great-grandparents relative. Road all through Iraq. Went to Syria and camped out in palmeira. Rode out to the coast loaded myself on a and a bike on a ship to Rhodesia and South Africa to railfan steam trains. It was such a great little bike for puttering around because I was in no great hurry to go anywhere. I don't remember how many thousands of miles I put on that little beauty but she never failed me. I once woke up with a lion looking at me like I was breakfast. I packed my stuff up and Road out of there toot sweet as they would say. But any of my BSA 250 singles would run rings around that pitiful excuse for a motorcycle.

Sounds like an amazing trip. What happened to BSA? They were the best selling motorcycles in the world in the 1950’s but they never moved on and by the 70’s the world had, and no one wanted them any more. It’s a huge shame that the UK motorcycle industry died in the 1970’s because of complacency and the bikes just didn’t measure up any more. I quite like that the brand is being resurrected, and hopefully they will make bikes that work and people want to ride!

@@PeakMotorcycles I had to leave the Royal Enfield wish my lady friend in London. I couldn't pay all the fees to bring it over here. I still have all of my bsa's and Triumph and my BMW collection. But right now I am restricted to just riding the sidecar outfits because my left leg is very weak after brought citing a stupid woman who pulled out in front of me. I love my BSA 250 single s. I have one of everything and I didn't pay more than $500 for any of them. People like to badmouth the British motorcycles but I have found them to be eminently reliable and dependable as long as you choose a regular maintenance. When I rode my BSA 250 Enduro in the dirt trails all these guys with these water-cooled wonders are wondering who is the old greybeard and what the hell is he riding? When they come up to me and say BSA I didn't know the Boy Scouts of America made motorcycles God how I want to bitch slap them when they say that. Let's not forget before the English could afford a piece of crap known as the Morris mini they all rode motorcycles and had sidecars when they got a family. And the bike was apart of the family just like the dog was. I don't know how many guys in the old days let their motorcycle to their son or their grandson but it seems to be a recurring thing. Having a family attachment to a motorcycle gives it extra special value to the owner knowing that this was your father's motorcycle or your grandfather's motorcycle. I was talking to a guy about my vs a collection and I was overheard and at the next swap meet this guy goes oh your the Beazer guy and then he shows me a beautiful picture of a 1964 C15 BSA 250 Starfire. Alloy tank on it too. All original matching numbers 6000 original miles everything there cept for the side panel where they took it off to charge the battery. And he delivered the bike at all he wanted for the bike was $500 American. I couldn't believe what a bargain that bike was. But right now I don't want to have more motorcycles on the road then I can keep up because the ones you don't use their cars get clogged up and the battery goes flat you know how that goes. It's funny how the industry is today either the motorcycles have a ridiculous amount of horsepower or they have a miniscule amount of horsepower. When I used to fly the whole point of flying the plane was to enjoy flying the plane and not to be back at the airport sooner same thing with the motorcycles I want to enjoy the ride I don't want to be home sooner. Well I can't wait to hear how you did with the Ural experience because a lot of people don't know the fun that they are missing. It's funny how people put down something and then you find out they have no knowledge of it whatsoever other than hearsay that they have heard. Well I can't wait to find out how you did the sure and let me know. Ride safe brother.

I have bought beautiful BMW 4 less than the $5,000 asking price for that motorcycle. You could catch a nice 350 BSA b40 for much less than that motorcycle. It would be a classic motorcycle and it would be the real thing. And it puts out thirtysomething horsepower or you could get a nice BSA 441 shooting star which would have like 34 horsepower. The bike is lighter and makes more horsepower is Reliable Parts are cheap and plentiful and it is easy to work on yourself when needed, and the bike is gorgeous. And in the future you will be able to sell it for more than what you paid for it. Just saying.

Thanks! There are so many excellent bikes out there. You could get a B40 for a bit less than that, but if you need to ride it day in day out as a commuter in a city, you’d also need a workshop to keep it running and a certain amount of mechanical knowledge. You also don’t get fuel injection, ABS and a warranty. Not that you would necessarily need them, but bikes like this get people into motorcycles. The elderly BMW’s and 60 year old BSA’s will still be there when new riders are ready. May I ask which BMW you bought? Just curious 😁

@@PeakMotorcycles I bought a beautiful 1976 BMW 900 with a beautiful color match lift beiser fairing dual plug heads Lester mag wheels with VR rated tires on it with less than 97000 miles on it. My everyday 1,000 BMW my 1977 I put 140000 miles on the bike until I got run over by a car on it that bike was only $2,500 running.

I don't think 191kg. Wet weight is heavy. Just my observation.

Hi, only that the super Meteor, "although a 650" is 50 kg more. Mayby heavy as it's only a 350. I've got a test ride booked in two weeks an hope it's as good as you say it is. Many thanks for your input 👍

Oh? The new Royal Enfield Bullet 500 they sell here is not a great bike for 2022. Just because it can be fixed at the side of the road in India, doesn’t mean it can cut it in UK traffic. Maybe Uncle Stuart likes a false neutral between each gear, poor brakes, steering they lacks feeling and little power for the weight. He should try a 350 Meteor 😉 Joking aside, I rode a bullet 500 for 1000 miles in India, from Leh to Shimla, and it was perfect for that trip. I nearly bought one when I got back, but when I tried it here, it just wasn’t the same.

@@PeakMotorcycles I knew Harley-Davidson motorcycles were ridiculously overpriced in America I never considered the fact that with import duties into the UK what I'm seeing price that they are just makes me cringe considering a pound is worth a buck and a half American dollars when I think that a bike that cost $30,000 in America cost $45,000 in the UK I can't see how any regular person can afford to buy one other than buying used. Now you have to admit that in America we have much more Wide Open Spaces which was why we are the wide open spaces. The TransAmerica trail from north to south is further than your countries are from east to west. And I sure wouldn't buy a $45,000 dirt bike

@@PeakMotorcycles I hope you enjoy the experience. I love my Ural sidecar outfit. I have a fleet of vintage bikes but I like riding my Ural the best. It is so much fun. Contrary to popular opinion the older carbureted bikes are more reliable. My 1999 has 40,000 miles with less problems than any of the newer bikes. It went through two owners in 20 years and they put all of 4,000 miles on the bike in that time. My spare tire is from an American Tire company that has been out of business for 20 years . All of the Russian Parts on my bike Works adequately. The Mikuni carburetors are the only non Soviet Parts on the motorcycle. People in the fast lane will slow down and take pictures of you on their cell phone. People driving cars will wave you on or give you the thumbs up. People cutting the grass with wave to you as you ride by. People see it much more than a regular bike. I can't accelerate as fast as traffic after all I have 29 horsepower and 800 lb of motorcycle. The few things I have had to do to the motorcycle, none of the Harley shop wanted to touch it even if it was a simple job. I may have taken much more time than a professional mechanic to do the same job but I got it done and believe you me I am no mechanic. I always changed fluids myself with my Japanese motorcycles. When I got a Triumph that was 20 years old of course I had to do some to it but not a whole lot until after I had it 40 years and I had to replace the camshaft and I told the mechanic to replace any parts that were necessary, I helped out greatly with the teardown and the build-up. Clean parts. I learned how to tear down the primary so you can change a front sprocket. I have some stuff we're out in the transmission and he put it together because I wanted an expert to work on my transmission. Ural is the same kind of motorcycle. You keep all of the fluid topped up so you don't have to worry about them. And when you ride the bike regularly or as I do every day since being run over by a car. Before my accident I loved to kick-start my motorcycle in front of all the Harley Geeks just show them how to start a real motorcycle. I loved to kick-start my Triumph and fifty people are filming me. I love it when my motorcycle start first kick in front of them. Now it's true you can't go like a bat out of hell even says that in the owner's manual. I cruise on the interstate when I have to around 55 60 in the slow lane and I just let people pass me what people who passed me because I am slower than them down lower the window on their car and wave or give me the thumbs up. Everybody loves the Ural. Every bike party or events that I go to people come up to me and tell me I have the coolest motorcycle there and they will walk past a roll of $50,000 Harleys and look at my $4,000 Euro sidecar outfit. Women come up to me and tell me how cute my motorcycle is or how gorgeous it is. I just wish that they weren't all married. I was talking to a guy at a gas station who had a $60,000 Harley Trike. He had his sixteen-year-old daughter riding with him and so I kidded with him can I take your daughter to a biker party and he goes sure. And we both took turns busting her chops. And he would go hey keep her a couple days I could use the rest. And she would just keep going dad! I had a lady in a brand new Mercedes roll down the window just to give me the eye as I drove around her to go to the bank. Sidecar motorcycles are a love-it-or-hate-it thing. Now you can very inexpensive shy cars from people who bought them and did not like the experience and now they are for sale half price they are kind of big and take up a lot of room which is gives them an incentive to get rid of it. I consider mine like a dog that was rehomed. Its first two owners didn't like it but I adopted it and I love it. Parts are inexpensive and readily available. The one I bought was fully loaded with everything except for the two wheel drive that you can't use on payment anyway. Now the older you're old like a 1995 the two-wheel drive models have a differential on the sidecar drive so it can be used on pavement. True they are not fast but I love every minute I'm on the motorcycle and a lot of times I go slower than what I can so I can stretch out the enjoyment of the experience of the ride. I would not get a fuel injected bike because they make the bike run hot as Hades. I seen guys who have cooked pistons and spun bearings because their bike overheat Corsa couple of times some idiots ran them dry of motor oil and seized the motor and you can't blame a motorcycle if the owner is too stupid to put oil in it. The Royal Enfield 350 meteor should have all metal Parts on it a Kickstarter and dual disc brakes on the front and it should have a carburetor instead of fuel injection. And a Day Tripper doesn't work at all. I was actually pulled over by a sheriff in my county for dawdling, I told him I can't accelerate as fast as traffic but I can keep up with traffic as long as they don't go 70 miles an hour. We started talking about the Euro because he was thinking about buying one so we just chatted about the Ural and I went over some of the good point of the bike and when I looked down we had traffic backed up all the way to the bridge cuz nobody would pass us because he had his lights on. I told him we better move on and to look on the interweb because you can find good Bargains all the time. Everybody says how the Ural is a Russian POS but I counter that by telling them then how come new units are not on the showroom floor very long and used units get snapped up as soon as they become available. Lot of people like to badmouth Royal Enfield bikes but just like the Ural they don't stay on the showroom floor very long and used bikes are almost non-existent so people must like some and if somebody else doesn't tough shit. When I first started riding a motorcycle which was a little Honda. I had people call it all sorts of bad names, rice rocket, Tokyo tin, Jap crap. And some others that were even worse. If a bike works for you and you are happy with it who cares what other people say about it. So I hope you enjoy your your experience and find a good bargain, and dogs love riding in the Sidecar as do girls have fun bye.

@@PeakMotorcycles any manual vehicles, cars or bikes, on cars it wears the clutch thrust bearing prematurely, just not recommended.

I did enjoy your Meteor review, I bought my blue super nova in November, I was very sceptical until I rode it, for the same reasons as you, 190kg and only 20 bhp, but that doesn’t tell the story, I was impressed enough to buy one.

The canal boat is probably faster than your bike. Maybe he'll let you get a head start before he passes you.

I love watching the cars pull ahead in the distance away from you because you are going so slow. That bike could probably get beaten by a Volkswagen beetle.

Yeah it might be great for England where all the roads are labeled slow and when it says 30 or 40 That's kilometers and not miles. Slow bike for slow Road.

Have you visited the UK? Guess what the road signs are in. I’ll give you a clue it’s not kilometres. We still measure distance and speed in miles and mph. Beer in pints too, but ours are 20oz and not the little 16oz ones that make your hands look bike. I assume you’ve ridden a Meteor 350? If you haven’t, you should. See what you think. You might be surprised. I was.

Maybe running downhill it might improve its top speed hahahahaha!

you are completely missing the point .when you get older these are for me perfect.

The size of the engine the power it produces and the weight it has reminds me of a 1950s pre-unit single like an old matchless or Ariel single. But I prefer to ride a real British single not a phony Pretender for what you pay in England for that piece of crap you could have a nice well sorted out classic British motorcycle. You can have the real thing. You have to rev the guts out of it to get any power at all. Let's see how long the motor last if you have to run it at Full Throttle to get back and forth to work. I can imagine what an expensive blow up that would be. Electronic components on a motorcycle get shaken to death and Heat kills them faster than anything. If your abs braking system goes out prepare to scream when they tell you how much is going to cost to fix it. All the electronic stuff doesn't have a long life span and when it goes it is very expensive to repair and replace. Try to work on your fuel injection system no-can-do brother. Too much crappy parts and no power and too high a price for what it is. I prefer the real thing.

had these so called classics 50 years ago,no comparison to todays smooth.oiltight low maintenance bikes. you are welcome to the real thing. we have a couple of classics on display in our living room. a bsa and a james,i bought them for my wife.both 1951 models.

In America you can get a beautiful big Harley motorcycle for about the same price as you would pay for that chintzy Indian built crap. And Harley will go up in value where is your 350 goes down 50% and prices who did you drive it off the lot of course you still have to pay for the money you have lost.

There is a horse for every cowboy! I’ve tried a few Harley’s over the years. They do have their own charm, and it’s great to keep that old school technology going. Unfortunately Harley are struggling. Their customers are old men and they are not being replaced. I was at my local HD dealer last year and asked them how the new PanAm was selling. Very well as it turns out, but not to Ducati, Triumph and BMW riders, but to HD riders who were downsizing from old-tech cruisers for twice the price. Used HD’s are plummeting in value as no one wants them any more. Maybe in the US it’s different, but here they are bikes for old people who like to clean them and who only ride when the sun shines. That is why Harley are in decline. I hope they can turn it around, I see they are trying with a new bike made in China. If you can’t beat them, join them 😉

You are a pure hater from all the comments I've seen on this vid 😂 It's an absolutely good bike for the money, and newer riders and experienced 50 yr old riders are taking a good liking to Royal Enfields. They're making really good quality bikes in their own categories. And have been proven since years here in India.
