It´s amazing how you Americans see anything below 650 as small. The rest of the world sees a 250 ar mid-size. It´s just not a bike for the American market. But in Europe, Asia, India, or South America, that bike is considered a decent bike. And let´s be serious. For commuting, you don´t really need more than that.

Additionally year round riding in many areas and California.... which is twisty playground, you kind of need that power for fun if you've reached higher skill levels. People will say "you can't even use a 650 full power on the street" with a straight face.... oh yes you can! You can't really a modern liter bike but you sure as hell can use all of 125 HP and below in the twisty to good use.

Its a shame the Suzuki 250 wasn't released like 11 years ago. Cos back then you started on the CBR125 then the Suzuki could have been a step up in terms of size and everything. And it looks pretty good. And would have prolly run better than a 2008 250 Ninja. Shame they were so late to the party.

Almost every rider on the MotoGP grid (Including Rossi) started out on a 125cc for the first few years before moving on to 250cc and upwards. If you want to learn to be a great rider you have to do your time and progress to the high art, the 10,000 hour rule applies to motorcycles as well. 🙂 The important questions for a beginner bike will be things like "How much will it cost to repair when I make beginner mistakes?" and "How much will it cost to insure?"

If it will cruise at 70-75 all day on the highway with a little extra sauce left over without hurting the engine its fast enough. Some years ago my Dad bought a GW250 that uses the same engine. I took it out for a quick run on the highway and got it up to almost 90 with no problem before getting paranoid about law enforcement and dropping back to the speed limit.

Entertaining review but i find it a bit too condescending toward this bike. You get what you pay for and i dont think you'll get an R3 or ninja 400 for $4k out the door. Plus for many people here or in other countries this would make a great inexpensive means of transportation. Reliable, easy to fix, great gas mileage, and if it does 80+ mph it can keep up with traffic no prob. I do think it looks quite good too, and Cycleworld gave it a favorable review. My two cents.

How all of a sudden this bike shines beats me.. It was always a good bike and it will stand bulletproof on the passing of time. This is a bike you build and sharpen your skills on!NOT a bike you go fast on straights but definitely a bike you can rip on a twisty-touring road :) And you know what they say..It's better to ride a slow bike fast rather than a fast bike slow :) If you buy it you wont be disappointed..just know what to expect from a small displacement cheap bike.

Even so the cbr250r and ninja250 offer so much more. Gsx250r is basically reskinned Inazuma 250, I guess Suzuki had some leftover Inazuma 250 engines and frames so they put some fairings on the bike slapped the GSX-R name on it to attract cool kids, and called the day. I've done my motorcycle license learning on the Inazuma 250 and my friend had an old 2009 ninja 250r at that time I remember enjoying his bike so much more it was just as easy to ride but so much more alive and fun.

I mean even then, it still doesn’t make sense. The old ninja 250s made over like 30hp and weighed 40 lbs less than this gsx250r. It’s not all about the specs i know, but a lighter and more powerful bike will probably be more fun, especially for the same price point

Going IN to corners, the little GXSR Feels a lot like the SV600 I test rode. While some people are complaining about this, I did not find this to be a particular issue as I'm used to this from the Bigger Bikes I've owned in the past. This 250 is VERY good at what it was designed for by Suzuki. It's "JUST" a Motorcycle; and a damned cute one! Keep that in mind....

Love that air cooled vtwin. Won't win any traffic light race, but on the right roads, its the most fun i ever had with my clothes on.

@@xaysleek4686 you will commonly see a smaller displacement bike here in Philippines as it is more practical and cheap. Though you will find bigger bikes too but not all can afford it. In city where the road is too narrow and the traffic that suck all your energy day and night, smaller displacement bikes are the cheapest and easiest way to hover around the city traffic. Bikes and scoots from 100cc to 300cc.

I'll be getting insurance on it tomorrow, and THEN I'm going to USE it as my go-to-Work ride, and "Play" with it sometimes on days off.
