Ok Jenny and Screech are twins the night they met they didn’t know each other Screech killed his sister and died.
The reason that neither his friend or girlfriend answered him is because his best friend and girlfriend were cheating on him. There's so many layers to everything that Ren does. Truly goosebumps -inducing. Its also worth noting that both Jenny and screech got their parents traits, Jenny the silent freezing and screech the violence from his father.

Something else really small that I love is when he's portraying Violet as she breaks her silence, he starts to stumble. When he says, "The doctor soon regains composure" he stops stumbling as if he's regaining his composure to finish the tale. It's very detailed lol. The man is a genius. Like once in a generation, artistic genius.

It's also worth considering why a 14 year old girl was walking the streets so late in high heeled shoes. Jenny's mom was sexually abused so I think Jenny was also sexually abused but as a way to make money/survive.
And thus we learn how the term 'Bardcore' came to be used by those referring to Ren :)

@@chlooeeeexo Now that you've seen it, whatcha think? Le' Puppers decided she wanted to chase squirrels this morning so we missed the premier heh What I've read (admittedly I didn't chase it down too heavily) is that Ren had read about a murder committed by a 14yr old in the papers and this kind of ... rose from the ashes of that article? There's so many things that people miss because they're subtle (one of my favorites is the first 2 bars of Jenny's tale after he coughs, go have yourself a listen to 28s-32s mark of Regulate by Nate Dogg w/ Warren G), the line at the end 'it's such a shame' .. a play on how society views yet another murder, etc, etc. Lots of little hidden gems for the listener (and watcher) to find. Hah, not sure how I didn't notice before, and utterly irrelevant other than for my own amusement ... middle child has that same exact choker although theirs is lost somewhere in the apartment thanks to a certain feline that deigns to live with us Either you've been reading ahead or you picked up a hell of a lot faster than some others as to where the story was going, crazy shit no?

The term predates Ren's career by quite a bit.
Jenny & James -aka "Screech" are Violets twin babies that were both 14 yrs old when they met & crossed paths! Its the fgitst only time they met each other too, despite the circumstances. [They were unaware of each other being alive because they were separated @ birth by the "system!"] Their Mother was Violet
It doesn't work trying to answer your questions through the screen,I did try.😁My understanding, and i'm sure someone will correct me, Ren wrote the Jenny and Screech tales after reading a newspaper article about a young boy stabbing a prostitute. He added Violets Tale about 4 years later to complete the trilogy. there is so much more to hear from Ren and the people he collaborates with. It will all make you feel something. Enjoy!

It's worth noting that the whole "It's such a shame" refrain is likely a rebuke about how talking heads and politicians give lip service to how bad things are, and yet never actually do anything to help. About as useful as "thoughts and prayers." Part of his reason for writing the first two Tales was because he was upset that the story was buried in the middle of the paper and not given any more attention.
@LeeannG
Жыл бұрын
I actually heard it was about a 14 year old boy being shot, no context, but the only quote was from one of the detectives who said “it’s such a shame” because he was so young. And Ren tried to think of any reason a 14 year old could end up gunned down in the street. We are probably all wrong lol
@deanc486

@@LeeannG Yeah I'll admit I'm taking part in Chinese Whispers. As for ' the it's a shame' line from where I'm from in the UK it's often used as the generic or stock reply to something bad that's happened. I guess it kind of makes how bad it is/was more manageable to acknowledge it?
*SPOILER ALERT* Violet having grown up in an Abusive Household, Left Home young and got pregnant with twins Died at the Hands of a Violent Partner Stevie, Jenny and James(Screech) the twins obviously were split up at Birth and entered the care system never meeting until the day Screech tries to Mug Jenny and Kills his Twin Sister unknowingly, it's also inferred Jenny is a Prostitute (Having walked these streets a Thousand times before), this story was inspired by a Newspaper article but it is all from Rens imagination, the story is all fiction.

He also says some things during the 360 degree live performance of the Tales about his inspiration. Essentially, the idea of good and evil, left/right, are all made up and that we lay somewhere in the middle. "There's this lie that we have either Yin or Yang. We are neither, and we are both. We are Apollo, and we are Dionysus. We are Jesus, and we are Judas. We are the healing hands of Mother Theresa, and we are the poisonous tongue of Adolf Hitler. We do not solely walk a path of good, nor do we walk tread a path of evil. We simply walk. And if we choose to rain down judgement based on some self-inflated moral code, We forget that we are but a few decisions or a few mistakes away from becoming demons, Or we're a few good deeds away from becoming angels. Our actions cannot be placed into black and white boxes, For there is beauty within destruction, And there is ugliness within perfection."

Sure except I'd put getting pregnant before moving out into a council flat... making Jenny and James her own half siblings.
Short synopsis in chronological order: In 2005, Violet, 9 months pregnant, was beaten by her boyfriend so badly that she died in hospital, but not before the doctors were able to save her children, twins, a boy and a girl. The children are separated, their mother dead and their father assumed arrested for the crime. 14 years pass. The girl, Jenny, is a teen prostitute in London (high heels, walked it a thousand times, out late at night). The boy, James is called "Screech" by his mates, and is already a criminal, committing muggings and robbery and likely other offenses. One night they meet at a corner and when Jenny goes still and silent he lashes out, killing her only to be shot and killed by police one street away. And the reporter (the storyteller) relate all of this with the closing line of "it's such a shame" before moving on to chase the next story...
Sharing stories in reverse and the word play and guitar work is phenomenal, few are chosen and he made the list
'Renspeare' the 21st century bard..............
So, Screech was the 14 year old that killed Jenny (also 14 years old). This was (originally released) in 2019. A few years later he recorded Violet's Tale, set in 2005 about the twins, Jenny and Screech, being born. This makes them 14 in 2019.
I would love a concert thats just Ren and his guitar telling stories.

A modern day Shakesperean Tragedy. Ren really out-does himself with each project he decides to make.
I'd recommend Crutch by Ren, shows yet another side, it's a 6 yr old song, so older.
One of the central themes of this song that really resonates with me is the fact that unlike Hollywood or the stories we are used to in real life their aren't always happy endings. Lots of times in life the story ends in tragedy. In this story their are no winners. Everyone involved suffers. Jenny killed Screech killed Violet killed Doctors traumatized Police officer Richard traumatized from killing a young boy Jenny's adoptive patents lose a child. Violets mother loses a child Violets boyfriend kills his own girl and children spends his last days on earth in jail Just tragic for everyone. And the cycle continues

I'm pretty certain Jenny was a "sex worker" "She knew this town, she knew this floor, she walked these streets about a thousand times before, in heels,"
Violet gave birth to Jenny and James in 2005… it’s just amazing what this guy can do and he did Violets tale a coupleof years after writing Jenny’s tale to close the loop with style 😢
Alas poor Jenny and Screetch we didn't know them till..... now. 😢 Before Ren released the trilogy he posted shorts where Screetch stole his phone and videoed him with his girlfriend and Patrick. It nearly backfired as subscribers and friends reported it to KZread. Causing a 💩 storm 😄 Modem tragedy done so well. The acoustics and timing work so well. Hits hard aye. Great reaction 👍 everyone when the end of Violets Tale lost for words. Bardcore sure suits Rens story telling and videos. Samuel Perry-Falvey captured it so well and deserves huge credit.
Jenny's tale was based on a fragmentary news article about the murder of a prostitute during a failed mugging at the hands of a 14 year old boy. The rest of the details are hung on this framework from imagination and from other people's stories. In the context of the story it is possible that Jenny began 'walking the streets' at 11 or 12, and her untimely death is indeed an 'escape' from a life of abuse. Stevie is a wrong-un, but he may not be Jenny and Jame's father - with jumping the head of the housing queue, and Ren being careful to "spare you of the things he did, I'm sure her mother knew" she could well have moved out at 16 and died around ~6 months later, with Stevie just continuing abuses that she is already used to. Patrick's absence and Babe's unavailability may be linked - she may not only be busy, but getting busy. Not that it matters - I just like the extra wrinkles of "it gets worse".
Ren is a true genius, not much else I can say
You dont need words. Just gotta admire his artistry.
Not true, but you got there! x I'll never go to Londonistam cesspit again!🏴
For a long time in my life i was looking for an answer for this question... This entire story is absolutely dark from start to end . Such a long time of 3 people being alive and then dying. Why is life so dark? Why is there so insanely much suffering and pain? I asked myself this question for quite a while until i got a satisfying answer, because "gods ways are mysterious" is not an aswer to me. That feels more like an insult to me. I needed an realistic answer that feels clear and reasonable to me. I found chaos theory and optimistic nihilism. Life is bleak but thats because there is no objective meaning to it. All meaning is subjective and individual. I feel an enormous amount of meaning in science and physics. Its the only reason i live. And it explains everything to me. Life is dark because the universe is not made for us. Its just here for the same reason we are here. Its here because it happened to be possible for it to exist. There might not be this possibility forever which makes it so much more valuable to appreciate every second you feel joy. This fills me with enthusiasm for living life as fully as possible. This year i will start my university career, i'll staudy physics... Mabye i find more answers for other people and myself.

At the start of the Tale of Jenny Ren pointed out she was looking for an escape. Which is why at the end he says she escaped. If you want to hear Ren singing I recommend Chalk outlines live. His Crutch video is another Must Do Masterpiece!!!
Great reaction video, one thing I noticed that you seem to have missed, the 14 year old boy that killed Jenny was her twin brother Screech. I could be wrong, it's just that you mentioned how good Ren is at depicting the tales of Jenny, Screech, Violet and the 14 year old boy. Love your accent, grew up in the West Country and I really appreciate hearing it and some of the local dialect.
screech and jenny were born in 2005 and died in 2019 they were 14
The story of Jenny is based of a true story then after he imagined the rest. Violet was abused by her father and the mom knew. She get pregnant from his father and at her 16y old she quit the house for a bad guy who beat her to death saying she's a liar because he knew the baby was not from him. There is a live of the Story of Jenny & Screech in full 360, we can move the camera : Ren - The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full 360 Live Performance) : kzread.info/dash/bejne/hZOc1Zp-m7rLiso.html

Beautiful reaction! Ren its really amazing!!
It's not a true story, but when asked how he came up with this story and characters Ren said "I was Screech as a teen."
I think a good one for you would be what you want it's not a sad one it's an old-school sound and it's a feel-good song.

This story is quite simple. Violet was raised by alcoholic parents, she moved out at 16 years old, met a smooth talker by the name of Stevie, Stevie got Violet pregnant and also beat the crap out of her. So when Violet died in hospital and the doctor saved her kids (Jenny and Screech), her kids were put into the child welfare system and they were adopted by to separate families, so when Jenny was growing up her adopted parents didn’t tell her that she had a brother, and Screech’s adopted parents didn’t tell him that he had a sister, so hence why they didn’t know each other.
Great reaction, tears and awe is so often the most emotionally honest, Ren reaction ❤ P.S always film your "first time" watching your way down the Ren rabbit hole, you will get great content :)
Where I live in the UK it is very unlikely you will ever see an armed police officer. Maybe it is different in London but this makes me feel it is not a true story. Still an amazing story though and he is so good at telling the story.

The first two parts of the story - Jenny and Screech are based on an article that Ren read in a paper while in London. Some parts are embellished like "Jenny's" background (that she was young prostitute) however the stabbing and the subsequent shooting of the boy that killed her are true. You are somewhat correct while it is unusual for armed police to be seen on the street in the UK, SO19 (The Specialist Firearms Command) of the Met do operate within the City especially when there have been violent incidents. This is somewhat alluded to in the song "sound of sirens tell of crime on London Streets" SO19 were in the area investigating another crime and when the incident with "Jenny" was reported due to the nature of the death they were helping canvas the area to find out if the incidents were related. SO19 are trained to not use lethal force unless there is imminent risk to life, being rushed by someone with a knife led to the officer shooting the charging youth dead. The interlude actions of "Screech" are also fictional. While most incidents like this do not make the national or regional news they are sparse, you only tend to hear about either high profile shootings or the shooting of innocents like Azelle Rodney or Jean Charles de Menezes, they do happen. The final part of the story "Violet" and the fact that they were related is entirely fictional, it took Ren a few years to find a way to tie the tragedy together beyond a random crime to make it a bardic tale.
We stopped listing to horrific stories and Ren has made us stop and really listen to something we should have never stopped paying attention to.
Would love to see you react to chalk outlines, how to be me, dear god.. anything of Ren's!

It seems to me that something was misunderstood by you (min. 14:44 of your reaction). The boy "James" who stabbed "Jenny" was called "Screech" by his friends. It was James/Screech who murdered his own sister, not knowing who she was. It is assumed that they were separated by social services after their mother's death and that they grew up independently of each other!
