Geoff's range is 5 octaves, but he seems to have at least 3 of them in chest, which is extra amazing. Eli has been known to back up bass when Geoff is singing lead. All of them have insane ranges, and they arrange so no one is stuck "in their own lane" To my ears, it's one of the things that makes their arrangements so spectacular. This one is from when J None was a member - he formally left in 2021 to sing in the Navy - and has just been promoted to a top Navy choir in DC, now singing bass. RANGE. J is back often as a featured singer. I think you'd like We Don't Talk About Bruno - it's another of Layne's arrangements with more of his wild humor.

On that one part, Geoff went up to D5 and down to D2, so exactly three octaves. Doesn't seem like a lot, but for a single vocal line that is crazy. And, to put that in perspective: that is two semitones higher than an average tenor on the top and about how low a typical bass can go on the low end.

I have never seen Wicked. It was supposed to be made into a movie, but Covid stopped that. I never heard any of the songs, but it absolutely does not matter. The show is a pre-quel to the Wizard of Oz. J was a member of the group from 2018 to 2021 when he was recruited by the US Navy to sing for them. He still has 3 years of a 5 year hitch to go. He's been back to collaborate with them four times. Rachel is also in the Wicked Medley. Both of the covers you've reacted to were Layne's arrangements, Wicked is Geoff's. Your voice is beautiful, by the way!

It’s so hard to recommend anything from them because everything is just so great. If you love Disney their Moana medley is really fun too. But I agree with another commenter about their Halloween stuff. I see that Hall of the Mountain King has been suggested and would like to urge you to try that one. It started out as a piece of classical music with no words. By the time Layne’s incredible imagination was done with it, the wordless piece tells a story. He designed the set, costumes and makeup (with prosthetics) and directed. Each time something new is added to the cauldron and someone takes a taste, watch for the music (and their voices) to change. It won’t disappoint!

Loved your reaction- thanks! I am a new subscriber looking forward to more Voice Play reactions and watching you become a "Voice Player or Voice Playa (fans of Voice Play)" like the rest of us. Rachel Potter was perfect as Ariel in this because she performed as Ariel in the "Little Mermaid" show at Disney's Magic Kingdom for 5 years (Rachel's challenge here if you look closely you will see that she is very pregnant so her singing, breath control and costume are commendable). Rachel has known some of Voice Plays members since they were in high school together. All the members of Voice Play and most of their featured guests are from Orlando Florida and have worked as performers at Universal and/or Disney theme parks. Geoff and his wife, Kathy, and some of the other members worked as performers in Universal's "Beetlejuice Rock And Roll Graveyard Review" and Universal's annual month long "Halloween Horror Nights" so they really go all out on their spooky, creepy, Halloween themed songs. They do all of their own production and are amazing! Since Halloween is coming up soon, you will want to check all of it out.

Geoff did "Monster Mash" and it's just lots of fun (another one you'll smile through). I love VoicePlay's cover of "Hide and Seek" (Ding Dong)--the costumes and make-up are absolutely perfect, the acting is great, the character voices are superb, and Lauren Paley screams on key (never heard a woman scream on key before). You are one of the few that noticed the subtle costumes. They are using what some people have called Disney bounding. They don’t dress completely as a character but there are allusions to the characters. Eli is wearing a black and yellow bowtie as a reference back to Flounder, and of course he also got stuck playing Scuttle! Jay is wearing a leather jacket and he is wearing fingerless gloves to represent Sebastian the crab. Of course, Layne is the French chef and Rachel and Geoff are obvious. After watching this I’ve decided that Ursula should be a male Seawitch!

While "Bruno" is still my favorite, this one is a lot of fun! Another great medley with Rachel is VP's Moana medley, with a slightly different cast than this one - Earl Elkins Jr. as the high tenor, instead of J. None who wasn't part of the group at that point. Another Rachel song that doesn't get the play it deserves IMO is Phantom of the Opera, with yet another slightly different cast - in that one it's the entire 5 person VoicPlay group at the time, with Rachel as a featured guest. It was one of the first ones where VP really went for the theatrical approach, and they must have liked it - they've been doing it quite a bit ever since! Notice that Geoff spent a lot of time using his "speaking" voice in this one - which I think is just amazing to listen to. He has a number of famous short stories and poems on his solo channel that he narrates, so you might want to give them a listen if you've got any free time.

As an animal person, I love supporting vets, so, subscribing. 😊 The “singing scream”: I think the word you’re looking for is “belting”. Layne has a beautiful voice when he isn’t being screwy. If you’d like to hear him being serious, look at their cover for “True Colors”. You called out a run in this one, their cover of “Tennessee Whiskey “ has the most amazing run I’ve ever heard. It’s the last one in the song: you’ll know it when you hit it. As to Geoff’s range, find his cover of “Ain’t No Sunshine”. He does much of it in his upper range, but there’s this one point where he does what has to be a three or four octave drop for just one note then right back up. It blows my mind every time. His cover of “Sound Of Silence” should also be heard. Side note: he does all his own background vocals. Because he had enough of a range to do four or five parts.

Welcome to VMC 😊 To forewarn you, most of the videos are educational vet med related, but once a month I do some sort of a mental health break type video like this one! I'm so appreciative for all that info - thank you! 💜 I've added your suggestions to my list of future mental health break videos

I love everything Voiceplay, so am biased. For a change of pace, you might like some of the “quieter” songs, like “In My Room,” by the Beach Boys. I was never that fond of the original (I’m old) but adore their version. And it’s sung in Layne’s room. And have you listened to/watched “Nothing Else Matters?” A Layne surprise in that one. Love your reactions - and your vet info.

They are just so amazing with their medleys! You should check out their 'My Mother Told Me', and 'Valhalla Calling', viking themed stuff and Geoff will blow you away! Also speaking of Wizard of Oz you should check out Superfruit's 'Defying Gravity' from Wicked, and also Toddrick Hall ft Pentatonix 'Wizard of Ahhhs'!
