Fun Fact: Dave Grohl (the singer) actually blew out his vocal chords while recording the vocal fry for this song, and continued to record through the pain. It ended up being the version they used for the album because he managed to stay in tune near perfectly despite the damage.

Kind of reminds me of Revolution by The Beatles. They had been recording all day, and John Lennon's vocal cords were shot, which resulted in the super ragged, angsty version of the song that was released on the album

I'm sceptical how true this is. Pushing on after damaging your vocal chords is extremely harmful and could've ended his career completely. I doubt an experienced frontman like him would risk that. Also I can't find any news articles that back it. There is one from 2015 that he damaged his throat on tour but didn't push it because of the reason I already said.

It was the best thing that happened to Dave Grohls music career, where he finally was recognized as a Rock and Roll genius. It's a real shame these reactions are blocked so frequently, as it is definitely some of the best material.

This song was a response to Courtney Love's claims that Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana and lead singer of Foo Fighters, used Kurt Cobain's suicide as a jumping point for his band's fame, even though Courtney attempted the same with her band Hole, so Dave wrote this song and it became a massive hit Edit: this is second hand info, more accurately I got it from a WatchMojo video, so if you have a more reliable source, please do feel free to correct me

In a 2007 interview with XFM, frontman Dave Grohl stopped short of explaining the meaning behind "The Pretender", but alluded its roots go to current political unrest. Grohl noted: "That's the thing with lyrics, you never want to give away specifics, because it's nice for people to have their own idea or interpretation of the song. But, you know, everyone's been fucked over before and I think a lot of people feel fucked over right now and they're not getting what they were promised, and so something to do with that."

But they did something really cool to get me to notice them, and now I love them. I was really impressed with them when they pulled up on the westboro Baptist church and drowned out their protests, and then later on rickrolled them and drowned out their protests again 😂🤘. I had never given them the time of day before, ( not because I thought they were bad I just hadn’t listened to them ) and now that I’ve listened to them they’re one of my favorite bands. Foo Fighters are one of the most unique band in terms of mixing completely different genres of rock together in perfect harmony. AMAZING

I’ve been listening to the Foo Fighters since I was 4 years old. My parents introduced me to them. They were my first concert when I was ten, and I was front row in a venue of 1400 people. I’ve seen them multiple times since then. I love seeing stuff like this, awesome reaction. 👍🏻😁

If you want more Foo Fighters: "Hey, Johnny Park!" "This is a call" Pretty much all of "The Color and the Shape" as well. If you like these guys, you should also check out Queens of the Stone Age.

Huge ups for a QotSA reaction, I'd love to see that. Most people start with No one Knows or My God is the Sun

...and yet, I'd suggest starting with something like "smooth sailing" instead, as it's fun and funky as hell.

They are a pretty mediocre band, very professional, but mediocre material. They have a couple very strong tracks though, like this one
