    btw if you react to So What, it has a female empowerment message just like Butterfly. In the beginning of the MV someone says "do not accept the fate of the moon." The moon symbolizes femininity in many Asian cultures so that sentences is saying that you can break away from traditional gender norms. It's also interesting because LOONA's entire concept revolves around the moon: their korean name means "Girl of the Month" because there are twelve girls who each represent a month. The word for "month" and the word for "moon" mean the same thing in Korean, and "luna" in Spanish means moon.

  • @keithcraig506

    @keithcraig506

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@TaliseSnyder That's one interpretation, but it's a very limited one. So What isn't strictly about female empowerment or 'traditional gender norms'. It's about being who you are and not forcing yourself to conform to societal norms, whether be it gender norms, the way you dress, the way you express yourself, your attitude, whatever. It's also about not relying on others to succeed. Yes, the moon symbolizes femininity in many Asian cultures, but "do not accept the fate of the moon", goes further than that, especially when you put it in the context of the whole intro. The fate of the moon is that it can only shine by reflecting the light from the sun. It does not have a light of it's own. So, "Do not accept the fate of the moon" means don't settle for reflecting the light of others. In other words, don't rely on others to create your success and don't allow them to set the rules of what 'normal' should be. Create your own light, break free of the 'norm' and rely on yourself. The next line, "Get off the track" is pretty self explanatory, don't be a mindless follower. Create your own path in life and, again, don't let other dictate you what the 'norm' should be. "Reveal to the world the hidden side" is telling us not to wear a mask, not to hide who we really are. Be yourself. Last but not least is "Burn yourself". Obviously, they don't literally mean that you should light yourself on fire. They want us to deny the fate of the moon by 'burning' ourselves, allowing us to create our own light. In other words, they're telling us not to just reflect the things and people around us. They want us to shine in our own right. I mean, they literally (through the magic of CGI) lit the freaking moon on fire which, to me, sums up the intro perfectly. They gave the moon it's own light so now it's not limited to only reflecting the light of the sun.

    I’d say that Loona get more freedom to do dances and songs like this because their fandom is about 80% females (many are also lgbt) and the ceo of their company is also a female which is pretty rare in kpop. So they don’t have the same pressure to adhere to standards that others may have. Also something that no one has mentioned that I personally really like is the way their outfit works with the choreo. Every outfit they’ve performed this song in has a long flowy ruffled sleeve which I think really adds to the butterfly imagery and arm choreo.

    Good to know, I wasn‘t sure if you would react to girl groups or not but it‘s good to know your reasoning behind it 😁👏 I actually never listened to Loona before but I enjoy most girl groups who don‘t do this typical girly concept :‘D I especially like Dreamcatchers music and choreos, they have two pretty talented rappers in their group and I enjoy their darker concept, they‘re also pretty underrated in Korea 😪 But Loona has similar difficulties as Seventeen, synchronizing so many members and giving everyone of them a spot in the spotlight is so hard to achieve and they have to change formations pretty frequently for that, they did an amazing job at that and I like the sound of the song 👏

    loona as a group is something special. before they debuted they would release a new member every month (since october 2016 through 2017) called, "Girl of the Month" that would be in a group and sub unit. Each member was assigned a color and animal. they would get their own song to perform. for example, the first member was heejin and her song is call "Vivid" . her animal is a rabbit and her color is bright pink. loona tells stories to the point many people have theories about their songs, each one has a hidden message. i hope you continue to support loona and their story.

    LOONA has 12 members who were revealed one at a time per month across the span of a year, each debuting with a solo and MV. Their name 이달의 소녀 means Girl of the Month and the first letter of each syllable is rearranged to firm LOONA (i.e. Luna of course) so their English name reflects their Korean name and concept. It's such a good branding and design choice imo

    Whenever someone says "girl groups don't usually" I just know they haven't listened to many girl groups at all. It's sad that so many girl groups are dismissed under that umbrella. Also that women are considered sexualized in skirts while guys aren't when they're often around the same age without shirts, grinding on stage and doing body roles. The view toward women is always so distorted.

    i definitely understand that frustration, particularly because girl groups always seem to be held to higher standards. It's always about being different from the "other" girl groups, which often has a negative connotation (and sometimes that just means being some form of girl crush/hip hop). Boy group songs are about flex/love/typical things too most of the time, so i don't see why girl group songs need to have meaning to be interesting and worth featuring. :/ kind of wish people would be more open to appreciating girl groups for what they are. no hate to jeff though i dont think he meant anything negative, i just think girl groups should be cut some slack when it comes to this. sorry this is inarticulate and long hahaha

    I always enjoy watching reactions especially from people new to LOONA. The different perspectives from different people give me a different feeling of the group, even though I've watched them a countless times. It's nice to see them getting such good feedback from people in different walks of life, industries, professions etc. Thank you for reacting with such enthusiasm and perspective and I hope it would lead you to check their other choreographies and dance covers as well.

    Loona is SUCH a talented group with a huge variety of genres! the members were introduced one by one each month with their own solo song before the groups official debut as 12 with the song 'hi high'. Their latest comeback 'so what' also talks about women empowerment, its very different to butterfly with a much stronger concept. plus they have a whole universe of lore within their music videos, so if you were serious about seeing more of them there is a whole lot to cover! I truly recommend getting into them, they're one of the most talented and hardworking girl groups and they're also just to sweetest girls

    LOONA really are incredible performers. I hope you wouldn’t mind to check out their cover of Love Battery since LOONA became a guest in a show called “Immortal Songs 2”. Its a show where singers/idols will do their cover,revival, or own rendition of kpop’s songs in the golden years. And I hope you would check out, its very worth it.

    Yeah I was really shocked with the high notes too hahha. I think Haseul did that whistling high notes since she has background experiences for that like opera singing and maybe added effects that made it sound so intriguing like it's a whisper in the winds effect or maybe just whistle in general.

    The thing with LOONA(and mostly their older videos) is that the group has a concept it focuses on mainly on music videos instead of just focusing on choreographies,visuals etc. They make it clear that the group is not here for us to follow and be inspired from just musically but in our everyday life too.As you can see, it was made sure that they focused just as much on the concept of female empowerment as on the girls and that's very beautiful to see from artists.They turned their art into OUR art too.

    LOONA are great, it's nice to see that they encouraged you to react to more girl groups. There are lots of girl groups with meaningful empowering songs (especially in B-sides on their albums) and great choreographies, so don't let stereotypes hold you back from getting to know them.

    GFriend have some amazing choreos and syncronisation especially in their earlier days, they are known as one of the best girl groups when it comes to dancing. Would recommend, Glass Bead, Me Gustas Tu, Rough and Sunrise. They also do segments on variety shows where they dance to the songs at double speed
