First Play of Yanagisawa S901 Soprano (Nearness of You)
Музыка
Just got a Yanagisawa S901 Soprano. I have been after one for years! It didn't come with the original Yani Mouthpiece So I bought an Otto Link Tone Edge 7' to get started. Not sure I need to change it. What do you think?

Excellent sound, very smooth. Good intonation
It sounds great - don't change a thing. Best wishes with the new instrument.
Superb Kevin! The mouthpiece combo and intonation are spot on. I'm about to buy an SW01.
That's such a great sound, stick with it. I want one. Fantastic!

Merci
Très joli son.
I play a S901. It is great. But, selling it to buy a new S0W01 to get the curved neck comfort. Still playing the S901 (20 years).
That's a great sound, good combination sax and mouthpiece. You make playing soprano look easy, is it? Great tune too, well done.

Well Didn’t set the highest bar but thanks for the sentiment 😀😀 I have been after one for years and it was worth the wait. Should have Kept my Yanagisawa Tenor to be honest.
What’s your opinion on older sopranos? I have a Conn 6m alto from 1941 and adore it but I don’t know if the quality of older saxes apply to sopranos due to them not being as immediately common. I’m looking at one from around 1930 but can’t go out and play it because of Covid. Thoughts?

Hi I haven’t played any vintage Sopranos so I can’t speak with any authority. The metal is probably better than anything you could buy today, In general I prefer modern saxes for the intonation and I like to play with an F# key. I also prefer a soprano to be one piece.
any special reason to use the ligature inverted ?

It’s supposed to give a more even hold on the reed.
