This has been my experience in raising my past puppies. 👍 When you start them right…life is so much easier for both us and the puppy. I’m hoping I get a good nights sleep tonight because I’m sure it will be my last for a week or so. Fortunately my hubby is retired from a job where he worked night shift for around 30 years so he get’s up every night for a couple of hours, so that will help a LOT. Thanks again for making such informative videos, you have a wonderful speaking voice as well!

I got a 6 weeks shih tzu brought home 2 weeks ago. Follow your advice since the first day she came home. By the 2nd day, she is no longer whine unless she has to potty. I am now still have to wake up every 2.5 hrs to have her use the potty, the great thing is that after potty, I put her back in the crate and she went back to sleep 👍

A truly wonderful, well thought out vlog with such great advice! In another week, we will be welcoming a Morkie into our home. My Mom will be 89 years old this year and I look forward to the love he will bring into her life (I am my mothers caregiver) and I know how dogs make such a positive impact in all of our lives. I grew up with a black Lab and a Great Dane! We choose to get a small dog so that my Mom would not be overwhelmed nor intimidated with the size of the Morkie. Yet, so much love and happiness in a small package, it seems that you agree! I would love to see more of Nova, she is absolutely adorable and you are absolutely beautiful in your heart and soul. Liked, subscribed and wishing all the best for you and Nova, with good health for all!

Omg I just found out about your channel right now, I’m sat with my 12 year old dog, Ella, in my bed. It’s night right now and I found your “Getting a puppy!” video on my recommended! Your so underrated, I love your channel!

Watching this video after taking my puppy out for her 2:30 AM potty. I have a similar crate size to yours but I have a divider. I actually give my puppy access to water 100% of the time. However, I also take my pup out at 2:30, 5:30 every night. I never had an issue with crying as I took preventative measures. I used Adaptil spray which is a pheromone spray. I also used a snuggle puppy, which is a plush that has a heartbeat toy to help the pup settle. I didn’t use the crate the first couple of nights as I didn’t want my puppy to be distressed. I made sure the pup has a positive association with the crate before keeping her in there.

Hi Jeff! Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone 😊 Every puppy is different! I also take proactive measures so ensure Nova’s comfort and only had crying that one night when I slept through my alarms. Now she is able to sleep through the whole night which is awesome! I was planning on getting Nova a snuggle puppy as well but she took to her crate very well with the multiple introductions and positive associations I’ve tried to make and we’ve have no issues! Sounds like you’re a really awesome puppy parent to your fur baby! 😊

There are a lot of options out there and there's always going to be fuss about what diet is best for your fur baby, but ultimately in the end I think puppy parents will do what they think is best! Tip if you want to give your pet water before bed; try an ice cube (sized based on how big your pup is)! This way they aren't drinking a ton but if they need a drink, they can get the hydration

Hi! I absolutely think you should crate train your puppy and strongly encourage you to! In my opinion, it's the best way to ensure your puppy's safety during the night when you are sleeping and cannot keep an eye on them. It will also prevent potty accidents and not give them too much freedom which could lead to behavioural problems later. Crate training is also a great way to teach your dog how to self soothe and prevent separation anxiety in the future. By giving them a safe space that is solely their own you are instilling confidence in them and teaching them how to self soothe. It will also come in handy for example if you have to leave the house for a little while or if you are busy with something and need them to be contained. So many benefits that I want to share in a future video as well and how you can start crate train your puppy! But if you decide not to get a crate I would recommend a play pen. I have both and they are honestly life savers with a new puppy. I hope this helps a little! :)

Quick question, I have a crate for my dog but I was wanting to leave that in the living room and get another dog bed to put beside my bed. Would that work or should not do that ? Ultimately I think it’s best to have your dog sleep on their crate. You could always move it to the living room to do crate training during the day if you wanted but I personally think it will be more beneficial to keep it consistent and have your dog always sleep in their crate

damn my crate is too big, now im worried hell do this when i pick him up in 2 weeks. i purchsed a large because hes a golden retriever so i know in 6 months it would be a good size and didn't want to buy two. might just but a large teddy inside to half it

Hi Erin! Unfortunately I'm not sure what size Nova's crate is because my uncle gave it to me from his previous dog. I'm thinking out of the size options, it's probably the second smallest. I'm sorry! 😫

Ahhhhh! Nova is the cutest! I'm getting a puppy soon. Also, how often should you give a puppy a bath? I know people who bathe their dog every week AND people who bathe their dog once a year. So I need some advice

Omg a year? 😂 I give Nova a bath every 2 weeks. I wouldn't bathe too often because that could dry out their skin and fur and cause itchiness. But I'd say rule of thumb, if its been two weeks and your dog starts to smell its bath time 😂 There's also products that you can use in between baths as well to keep them fresh for longer like wipes, deodorizing spray, dry shampoo and stuff like that!

What about a puppy apartment crate?

I just got my yorkie and he had an accident and I freaked out! And now he’s a lil unsure of me.......but..........I’m sure this will help and make him like me again.😬

Size of the crate?

I plan on making the potty area my backyard but I can’t see myself taking her out at like 2am 😭 I’d like to have a potty pad in my room just for night time the first few weeks. I’ve read that would be confusing... do you have any advice for that? p.s. i really love the puppy series you’re doing it’s helping me a lot!

Hi! Honestly, I am training Nova to go on potty pads, but sometimes I do take her outside. Sometimes just by coincidence we are outside and she goes potty! It's not a perfect science (for me anyways haha) so I think it should be okay during the night as long as you stay super consistent with taking her to the backyard during the day and really putting praise and reward when she goes in the backyard. Now that Nova is a little older, she can hold her bladder all night from 10:30 pm - 5:30 am so I think if you have a potty pad for the first couple of weeks in your room that is okay.
