FIRST MPG Test- Diesel OMEGA CAR - Video 2 of 3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After waiting 10 years, Casey Putsch dusts off his creation and gets real world MPG data to see if his invention will be the sustainably recyclable automotive industry game changer he envisioned after being angered by the lies of American politicians in 2008. This video is the second of three and is the first MPG test. This was a precise test, but the car was driven without aerodynamic body panels and final tuning and still achieved over 104 MPG non-highway driving. Casey's next goal in to only burn 1 ounce of diesel per mile or to achieve 128 MPG. The third video will be 0-60mph testing against a Tesla Model 3, a C7 Corvette, and a Dodge Viper RT/10. What car will be faster?

    @@MossMini with all due respect I live in south Florida I can travel down the 75 and there are diesel stations at every exit. There are Tesla charging stations but you must wait for your car to charge. This car as it stands will take you 500 miles on one tank. I’ll say this unless Elon musk or the Tesla owners chip in to put charging stations everywhere you are gonna have trouble convincing the average American to pay more on taxes to build the infrastructure for the cars to work seamlessly. I also don’t understand the idea of making putting charger underneath the highways( so the cars can charge while driving) and the cars become self driving because that just sounds like a train to me. It just seems like a lot of work to completely build This new way of transportation, then upgrading the current. I’m not being argumentative I’m just saying what I think. If I’m wrong tell me. I should also say the idea of mining for oil comparative to lithium mines both is digging into the ground to get minerals to run the vehicles. Also used electric cars are the hardest vehicles to sell. Selling new Teslas sure but I already know that any used electric car is almost impossible to sell.

    Congratulations on achieving 104.7 mpg! Many years ago, one of my first jobs out of tech. school was test car driver with Standard Oil in Cleveland. The fleet was brand new vehicles fitted with analog computers to chart mph & distance, and vacuum-in-mercury gauges. I became quite adept at achieving very good, consistent fuel mileage, which ensured my position on the team, and helped me later in racing with smooth throttle application. Your testing & data acquisition with the Omega (which has an excellent Cd) took me back to those days. Now...on to the drag strip!

    It's important to remember that Diesel engines can be adapted to use dozens of different fuels such as methanol, maybe ethanol, kerosene, all sorts of oils even cooking oil without being converted to Diesel, DME, many other fuels if used as a dual fuel setup, ...

  • @paradiselost9946

    @paradiselost9946

    @@vitordelima also bear in mind that the "diesel" as we know it is just the version that survived as it was the simplest to build. theres quite an interesting lineage that led to its final form as we know it... the hotbulb is old and dead... too hard to control under varying load... but we now have nice high temperature, rapid heating glowplugs that can be very easily ran on PWM, for instance... allows for a lighter, lower compression design with lower NOS emissions but still retains the auto-ignition, with constant pressure type expansion phase. auto-ignition has the benefit of being able to run extremely lean... thats why diesel is so good on an idle. only needs enough fuel to kick it over the cycle, petrol has to run rich to get reliable ignition. some ideas such as brayton lacked metals, and devices such as turbo chargers... ICE is far from dead, but its about time some of the bigger companies went back and checked out previously considered "obsolete" ideas if they want to progress... the "otto cycle" is dead... or should be.

    @@paradiselost9946 Interesting. There are dozens of other potential improvements such as mixing water with the diesel or kerosene as a emulsion, semi-adiabatic pistons, different configurations for the pistons including opposing pistons, alternatives for the crankshafts, different methods for valve control, ... despite all the hype their efficiency is still better than most fuel cells, they can be used in gensets for electric vehicles while batteries are still terrible and they have reasonable costs when dealing with a lot of power and energy, which modern technologies don't (or even can't be used sometimes).

    In 1989 Audi drove in the Audi 100 C3 with the 2.5 TDI engine on one fuel tank almost 3000 miles far. The range back then was 138 mp/g. They only achieved that with a bunch of fuel saving measures, like turning off all unnecessary electrical devices, running tires with very high pressures, never exceeding 37mp/h and removing the side mirrors to reduce drag. It's a pretty big car though, which is shaped like a brick and had two passengers on board (The driver and an independent observer from the German Automobile Club ADAC) I believe that manufacturers could build a very fuel efficient combustion engine, if they really wanted to, but for some reason they don't really want to. It's almost like somebody is making lot of money by selling and taxing fuel.

    Great achievement sir! I have been doing research and development with small displacement gasoline V8 engines for economy. I am disabled and have a meager income but I do what I can. I have spent years saving and purchasing used machining tools and measuring instruments and I'm almost to the point I can do probably 75% of my own machining. I believe with precision machining to reduce friction and wasted power along with proper cylinder filling and fuel burning capabilities within the engine can make a significant difference in fuel economy.Thanks for sharing your vehicle and I have subscribed to your channel. I look forward to more videos on it.

I'm super curious about what the manufacturing process was like, and what materials you used, since you mentioned in the last video there's no fiberglass or carbon fiber, and that the goal was to make a recyclable and cheap product. Also, other specifications like the weight would be really interesting to know, if you're willing to share. Keep up the great work! Ok this is fantastic… I’ve been thinking about this type of thing forever. Blows my mind that with all the advanced in automotive technology that weve barely improved efficiencies over the years. It’s understandable that safety standards have weighed cars down so they are fighting that, but still. It’s the reason EVs are so desirable. The cost per mile is just soo much better than anything else that’s available

Also, is there a way to make composite material structures that are suitable for mass production (like having a part spend 4 to 10 seconds in a mold instead of 18 to 24 hours)?

    Pretty awesome man. I was really looking forward to seeing this thing out on the road again. I'm pretty curious about how it is recyclable though. If I was doing it, I'd use an expandable foam and a mould. I imagine you're not doing that, as the 2 part foam isn't really recyclable, but is it something similar that is Biodegradable or something? Anyways, awesome video, great work and all that. Happy to see you suceeding. Perhaps a way forward with some of this stuff would be to make some of the process open source, maybe start a grass roots movement, or a contest for those interested in competing for "Most fuel efficient race car" on a timed course? I mean, if they can do it with battlebots, you might be able to market this as a challenge moving forward...

It was NOT a fast car 0-60, but would top out at 120 mph due to its efficiency. The car routinely got on average 115 to 140 mpg, even got 60 mpg at 90 mph! I was further modifying the engine to strive for 200 mpg and lost interest, since it was a solo project (no partners).
