FIRST MAN Theremin Theme
Музыка
The theremin in this video, or rather the music it made, actually went to the moon with astronaut Neil Armstrong as part of the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Here is a quote from the final paragraphs of the book, MOONDUST: IN SEARCH OF THE MEN WHO FELL TO EARTH by Andrew Smith ( the full story of the Apollo 11 moon mission, published in 2006).
"Of more interest to me, though, was Neil Armstrong’s response to a supplementary question about 'the strange, electronic sounding music' that Collins [fellow astronaut Michael Collins] reported him taking to Luna. Armstrong told me that the electronic sound I referred to was the theremin music of Dr. Samuel Hoffman, specifically an album called MUSIC OUT OF THE MOON, which he [Neil Armstrong] had committed to tape from his own collection."
The theme played in this video was written by composer Justin Hurwitz for the 2018 film FIRST MAN. The movie is based on the book, FIRST MAN: THE LIFE OF NEIL A. ARMSTRONG, by James R. Hansen.
The theremin you see and hear in this video once belonged to Dr. Samuel Hoffman, and was used for the recording of the album MUSIC OUT OF THE MOON.

It's like every theremin is assigned a ghost that comes out and vocalizes

The timbre of the theremin is so human at times. Truly eerie.

Theremin was a favorite music instrument of Neil Armstrong. This is why it is so present in First Man soundtrack. So Justin Hurwitz mastered to play theremin for Neil.

@@kamilarikut3638 I guess all that brainpower isn't being used properly. There is enough evidence, to be honest, and, if you think the records are fake (This includes actual recordings, videos, and pictures) I am certain that the primitive tribes are more intelligent than you are. Neil A. Armstrong is not a liar, it would be near impossible for him to fake it at this point, or at any point throughout history. There, have I convinced you enough before you come up with a more lesser intelligent response?

@@kamilarikut3638 I ready have. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. Oh... you are using their expressions and speech to determine whether they are lying right? Sorry for using the assumption card here but that doesn't justify anything. The capsule, suit, stones/rocks, engine, a hundred voice recordings from CAPCOM and the capsule itself, video recordings, images from the moon and space, the computers, the engineers who had worked on all things on the saturn v. Plus, you can go talk to the guy who crafted the computers for the orientation of the rocket. Yet, here you are justifying that the three astronauts whom landed on the moon are liars because of a press conference. Things change dude, especially if they saw Earth from that distance. No doubt about it. I think there is enough evidence for them to land on the moon.
Proof that theremin isn't just joke instrument.

When Peter plays with eyes closed, he's "in the note", in the zone. Mark of a real musician.
I work at a movie theater and listened to the end credits song “Quarantine” and had to see the full film. It is one of my favorite ways the theremin has been used- in film, an emotional soundtrack.

I watched this before seeing the movie. I just finished the movie, and couldn't resist coming back here. If only I could hit that like button again, now that this song means more to me and has more weight.
Better than a human voice, because you can manipulate it to have that eerie and hauntingly beautiful sound!
I wasn't watching, just listening, and thought it was a woman's beautiful voice. Amazing!
I just discovered this instrument last night and am looking up videos about it. It is incredible the music it makes. Haunting glorious heavenly and serene all at once. All you can do is close your eyes and soak it in.
Best use of a theremin ever.
The perfect instrument to play this type of song... so beautiful, ethereal.... out of this world! Your songs truly take me elsewhere!!
Mr. Pringle you have to do a Q&A sometime or some sort of biographical video. Your musical ability with ancient instruments and the Theremin is really amazing, not to mention your voice! Great work
En regardant le film j'ai cru que le thème était "chanté"......Et je découvre le Theremin...... Incroyable💕😍
I've been following Peter's performances for some time and if you're new to his videos I urge you to check them out. He plays many ancient instruments, very well, I should add, and in the manner of how they were plays hundreds, even thousands of years ago. He's brilliant and very entertaining to watch and listen to. Keep up the awesome work Pete.

He is surely an esoteric master. He seems to have grasped some ancient and musical wisdom lost to others. He is more than educated, as he has found a connection between ancient souls and many of our present day lives.

This honest to goodness just shattered me to pieces. Justin Hurwitz's score for First Man is already deeply moving and profound but this rendition just elevated it to another level.
Oh wow! This came up without me having eyes on - I thought this was a real voice - that's bloody amazing!
Such an appropriate sound for an 'alien world' so beautiful - so unique amost like a human voice.... RIP Neil Armstrong.
Be still my heart! From the First Man's hometown, thank you. ❤️. You have a standing invitation.
Haunting and beautiful.
Oh , and thank you for always telling your instrument's story. Always a pleasure, on top of your other worldly music. Just beautiful.
Wow... I never thought the theremin could be such an emotional instrument
There's nothing else like the sound of Dr. Samuel Hoffman's theremin. Beautifully played M. Pringle, as always.
the most sentimental mosquito that I ever heard in my entire life, simply beautiful.
Beautiful, as always, Mr. Pringle!
Big respect, it's clear how much you love music and that is transmitted to your performances and your voice in the videos where you sing.
This was an amazing movie -- filled with the thrill of conquest, humanity, bravery, humility, joy, and pain. The soundtrack was ingenious, and the theremin was a perfect pick for inclusion in the music.
Incredibly beautiful as usual ! the start sounds like a human voice !
Thank you sir, so much. This post is worth the wait. We hope you will post more as soon as you can.
So haunted. hypnotic. underrated. almost a genius. 😍
One of the reasons why I love the movie is this serenely beautiful and unique soundtrack...
