I heard some Italian say it has a high reving desmo engine. Essentially it has a third cam to close the valves instead of valve springs. Should be interesting!

having and still own a few ducati street bikes, my biggest issue is a actual dealer and support. if it breaks sit back and wait is all you can do and you best learn how to fix things yourself. in NC have to go to atlanta? at the time. and no its 9 hr drive to the nearest dealer. but being a certified suzuki , honda ,yamaha tech i fix them myself. issue is getting the dam parts... i hope triumph and ducati truly succeed but , imo don't even sell a product here if your goal is to have what a few dealers across the country.. i work on a lot of older ducati's can they make a quality machine yes but they best spread there wings and commit.

The Ducati dirt bike will most likely have the trellis frame, excel rims, Showa suspension, standard swingarm (for strength - the single sided unit is better for road applications), production exhaust will be conglomerate from zadi or Remus to meet emissions, whereas racing exhaust will be termignoni or akrapovic (most likely akrapovic). Engine will probably mimic the superquadro design like the hypermotard 698 minus the structural aspect of the engine. And will have a full electronics package through an app subscription like KTM or a mini tft display. Ducati has been a pioneer in production electronics and will most likely make this available - BEWARE of the price tag ! It’ll be 5 figures EASY!

As a former Ducati mechanic I'm stoked on this but honestly Desmo is a non starter for the MX market. People are not going to like, or in some cases be mentally capable of dealing with how extra weird and fiddly the valve adjustments are. On the road bikes back in the day we did 6-8000km valve adjustments, roughly 1/4 the time of a normal sport bike. They've improved a lot in the service interval times for the road machines, but still. MX valve adjustment intervals and Desmo are either going to make dealers a lot of money off of vet class rich guys or lead to a lot of poorly maintained, clapped out bikes in a couple years.

Only problem I see for the Italian series if the got competition that is on 250 2strokes.. and good.. but the Maddi team that is running the Ducati and before the fantic team.. the know they competion and it will be at least a 2-3 position in every race.. if not 1st.. And for the Ducati and triumph marketing I guess it will be like a factory edition ktm with all the extras.. Because to much ppl spent everything on the „powerparts“ catalogue so For this ppl.. they can ride a 15000 bucks bike and spent on a rpm meter on top.. get the sweater and the Ducati baseball cap And good to go..

It is true that KTM became the brand to be on after Dungey was winning over there, but its not exactly the case that nobody was riding them since McGrath. Grant Langston had a lot of success on KTM over here in his lites days and then you had Mike Alessi when he first turned pro running up front on a KTM 450. Also you had Ken Roczen winning the 250 west sx championship in 2013 on a KTM, and in 2014 he moved up to the 450 class and won the mx championship his rookie season on a KTM 450sxf a year before Dungey won his first championship on the KTM. You also had John Dowd in the early 2000’s getting top tens and multiple podiums in both the 125 and 250 class aboard a KTM. So they were definitely having success before Dungey went over there, its just that they completely Dominated once Dungey came over. Def not the case that nobody wanted to be there before Dungey though.

Roczen musquin and all the others you meantioned besides alessi amd lamgston was after that!! Also alessi was on suzuki in his early years then went to ktm after he was dropped by them and he never done that great on a ktm he actually stayed hurt alot more than he did on the rm...mcgrath only signed with ktm race one race that wasnt even a series event and then decided not to race the ktm at all in sx he returned on a honda for his unretirement stent....decoster and dungey made ktm what they are today they was a last resort for riders before they began building it in 2011/2012

@@bobbygilbert6955 sorry youre right but the point still remains that dungey did not win on the ktm until 2015 which came after roczen winning the 450 mx title on ktm, and the others mentioned having success as well. As I mentioned once Dungey went there (and RV retired) he started dominating so that really raised KTMs profile to be the premier brand after that for a while, but it wasnt like they were chopped liver before. They werent seen as an HRC until after Dungey, but ppl were still having success over there.

@@rockman4699 I agree with E bikes needing their own class, but no I mainly mean Gas or internal combustion manufacturers. They make it very hard for new manufacturers to join AMA sanctioned events and it has to be open to new tech and new manufacturers. I mean look how open Moto GP is now or even F1 car racing, and it really helped grow the sports on that end.

Not a fan of the brand, but they are making Triumph look like amateurs with making progress but keeping it to themselves instead of the endless publicity. And it will be THEIR engine!

The sad thing is that only rich people can afford to buy a bike theses day with interest rates so high and the economy the way it is. I'm one of the lucky ones that could afford a new bike. I sure wish you didn't change the time of hour pod cast Johnny. I'm sure the team bike is tricked out and the stock bike will be set up with cheap components and then you will be paying for the brand name which is pricey.

Hopper, for a guy who learned to ride a dirt bike so well, it's surprising how much guffy shit comes out of your mouth about dirt bikes. You don't see a logo on the exhaust? The triple clamps do look like so and so's triple clamps? Do you really think after market companies know more about making the bikes perform better than the manufacturers do? There's a reason a production rule went into effect. There is a reason that every rider wanted a Factory Bike. And still today why only a handful of racers get "factory parts". The pipe doesn't have a logo on it...come on, now.

@adamwelsh5744 Those are all generic items. And sourced by many manufacturers. I'm speaking of the proprietary parts that make the motorcycle a Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Kawasaki, or Suzuki.

@bmotomo421 tons.... forks and shocks, rims, spokes, brake rotors, calipers, master cylinders, radiators, starters, ecu, throttlebodies, handlebars, bearings, clutches, sparkplugs, exhaust or mufflers, alot of times pistons and rods are done by mahle/pankl, Depending on brand size many things can be outsourced some castings like tripple clamps or a whole engine like aprilia used to use rotax engines... Now mind you many of these parts may be oe spec, but many things made by outside vendors. And it's going to vary between mfgs.... honda will be different than a tiny brand like sherco or TM
