Shout out to Trents for always letting you film and use the facilities etc. 👊
Kev, you work for a great company! I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next with this Rover.
Good effort ! Too many cars like this get binned off, when they just need a bit of time, effort and money to keep them going.
Hats off to trents for giving you the use of the facilities! Anyone of a certain age will remember these brand new!. How can you not be in love with this car. Look through the roughness you have an absolutely gem, solid underneath, too!
I worked at Jaguar in the late 80's when the management cars were Rovers. These were available for us to drive if we went anywhere on business so I drove 200's,400's, Maestro's and Montego's during my time there. Never drove a Tomcat but the Montego Turbo - interesting. Totally mild mannered up to 2500 rpm, then the turbo kicked in. Great fun! All the best with the restoration and big thumbs up to Trents for the support.
I'm really glad you are saving that rover
Great video Kev and also a big thumbs up to Trents for letting you have these cars and using their facilities.
You do produce interesting videos, Kev. Keep up the good work 🌞
Great car,I had a 216 sli (Honda engine)and a 216 gti coupe,both Honda engines and quick cars.
This one will be great, it's a beautiful looking car and the exhaust sounds mint
Thank you for saving it Kev!! I have a 216 with coilovers semislicks and I recently swapped a honda D16 with VTEC. Only thing left to finish the project is installing the turbo kit I bought for it! Definitely worth saving this poor beauty
I had the 218 VVC Rover Coupe on a 1998 plate many of years ago in the Cadbury purple colour with cream leather interior. Loved it to bits. They were great cars back then. The K series engine was good and very strong as they did put them in the Caterham sports cars. Just gotta watch out for the bolts in the head as they were plastic and disintegrated. Hence, the oil leaks from the top of the engine. Nice one Kev. Keep the resto going.
Really can’t wait for this restoration to begin Kevtee Pal as I was only 22 so still a young man & just enjoying life Buddy. 👍
There is good money for these. You will as always do a good job on this. Looking forward to the end result.
Definitely 💯 percent worth saving
Got a lot of work to do there Kev but it'll be great to follow the Rover. What a great Firm Trents are to allow use of the facilities. Stay safe 👍🏻
Thumbs up to Trents 👍 Ben nice to see the old gal get a new lease of life, Well done Kev you are a talented guy,
Used to love those wheels. We had a couple of Sterling's we used to service, couldn't resist putting my finger in the little dimples on the alloys
That's a sweet garage! Nice vid bud. And I see we're now doing "love you bye!" instead of "CHEEEERS"
I am definitely buzzing for this restoration, buddy 🙌 can't wait
Looking forward to this series. I did laugh at 19.00 when I heard to cooling fan on 😅
Well done kevtee buddy
That Rover looks great Kevtee
I can’t believe the cars that get scrapped
Loved this! More please Kev Tee!
She sounds stunning mate good looking car aswell dude loving ur videos keep them up
I had a K reg 216GSi as a company car many years ago. Really liked it at the time.
A very good Tuesday evening to you sir
Done my apprenticeship on these back in the day Always wanted a turbo 😊
Nice one Kev a good looking rover
Been waiting for s update on thus kev I'm so jealous you finding this one but more happy you've saved it I'm stunned as to why it got scrapped the value as is is way more I'm sure. I had a black 1 few years back l32 rot t-bar roof Honda engine loved it then had zr after but really looking forward to the resto on thus for sure and great Trent allow you the use and have some off these cars of love to be there but would end up just getting paid in cars lol. Great job and vids
Really been looking forward to this one. Had to make a cuppa and roll a large one so I could enjoy it to it's full potential. I know it's a rover, but that sportier model should never have come with the wood insert in the dash. If it really had to be wood then they should have got some cool black wood or something.
How good do these still look, I love these cars and I really wish I could afford one myself. Well done on finding this
That classic now kev worth doing up it clean car really why don't u doing rover videos we can watch u doing it up
Keep the video coming kev
Well you work in the right place to get parts hopefully, they were a great car
Nice one kev shes worth saving you'd expect some defects as she's an old girl. Look forward to the content 👍
Love that car.xx
I mis mine so much. it was a great car. Torquay to Cardiff iff in 80 mins....
My mam had a 200 or 214 many moons ago and all i can think of is those real metal door handles being fun in the summer lol
Hey Kev, those front tyres on the Combi Lift are a defo MoT fail🤣🤣
Kev tee peanuts, neutrino since day, one who your truck on speaker break for nine the Big Ten. Hope to catch you next program she😎😍👍❤️
Im even older, rover SD1 vanden plas for me. 😊
There is quite a strong following for the R8 Rover so surprisingly you can still get a fair few parts including genuine Rover NOS. Tomcat Headliners though as Matt Furious Driving can attest to can be a challenge.
You need some guts to drive this car fast in traffic, fun as hell, noisy and not very reliable, but hey, coolest European coupé of the 90's... (BMW did a good job at designing the E46, looks just like a modern Rover Tomcat) BTW, the targa thing? come oooooooooon
I'd happily take it, just up the road from you 👍👍

I'm sure you would 😂
La mia prima auto (1996)... stesso colore, stessi cerchi, stessi interni. Solo che la mia era la 216 coupè. Quanti ricordi...
21:52 you need to get the back bumper off and check the crash bar they suffer badly with rust and from what can be seen of yours I wouldn't have high hopes of it being mint 😅
Nice car that's surely becoming collectable. I sure Matt from Furiousdriving would be able to offer advice on this. His Tomcat is the same colour as well.
That Coupe deserves a complete restoration, it has little rust and would be perfectly restored, those cars deserve a second chance, it is an icon of the nineties.
rear arches are the main rust spots, parts are no problem
Amazing find love this car again 😊
Hi Kev . The oil maybe coming from the valve cover running down. Not a head gasket I don’t think. Good foundation for a make over. Maybe has quite a few miles left in her . Some cosmetic repairs Ok 👍🛠🔧⚒💥P. S. Never seen them in Canada from a distance looks like an BMW .
In the 90s i was given a lift home in one of these. A high power one. The guy nearly hit 140 but the traffic built up.

Yeah the Turbo version was quick for a 90s car. Not huge power by todays standards, but then the cars were half the weight back then.
Nice video Kev. Can you not get parts from Trent?
Hi Kevin nice choice of restoration only one gripe please don't fall into the USA trap its a coupe not a coop as in speech chickens live in a coop it's a French word ......many thanks.
Mostly cosmetic stuff then. Sounds great
My brother had one of those, super fast in a straight line, but not as good as my MR2 and VR6 on corners.
I think the bonnet and those front and rear lights are the same as the Rover 400 series saloon from same era. my Grandad had a 1993 420 GSi saloon in Red from new and those rear lights look identical, and I’m sure the bonnet had the little power bulge too.
I had a 214 , if you slammed the drivers door the central locking kicked in ! I only locked myself out twice before I learnt to ALWAYS take the keys with me !
Ebay surely you would use Trents lol
Oil leak around the cylinder head on those engines could be a sign of cylinder head gasket failure, again as Matt Furious Driving can attest to. Still a solid engine though.
There is a sequence to run through to shut down immobilizer before changing fob batteries if it not followed will not sink and have to reset
It’s not a turbo but it still sounds good
Nice many miles left in her yet with a little TLC 😂
Could be worth a good polish and to keep paint to a minimum consider wrapping the roof and spoiler. A carbon look or matt black would work well
Keep em alive 😂 my tomcats 32 this year

And if you’re still looking for a bonnet I’d suggest making it pre-facelift. Only a personal preference but I always thought it looked better than the grill
Rover 200 honda civic mb lights fit it and the door card off a 200 is the same think the bonnet on a 200 touring has the bulge in it aswell door trim will be harder to find as it's 2 door only
Clean the underneath up and repair what's needed and lanoguard it matey and if you can get it in down chassis legs to matey
The plastic piece thats on the handle where the rod attaches on the back will have snapped , rover 25/and mg ZR handles fit ,
Hi how are you
I had one on a n reg many years ago, would love to give this a go, if you want to sell as is I'm interested
Was there a follow up to this video

It's coming.....
I'm surprised they let you use their workshop and film as much as you do. I reckon most employers wouldn't be as cool! :)
Had a 416 GTI on a J plate back in the day. Went like stink once you hit 4 thousand rpm. Those Honda twin cam VVT engines were brilliant. Full leather interior all electric windows and opening sunroof. They were quite a sleeper of a car because apart from the alloys and twin pipe exhaust it looked just like a standard 416. Rear fog light will just have one bulb in, mine did. The left side should just need a bulb fir it to work. Seems they dropped the full leather on the seat for part leather, cheapskates.
All the lovely cars live this are being chased of the road by ulez in London. They'll give me 2k for my scruffy e39 if I scrap it. Result!
this car deserves a stainless steel exhaust with a nice sound or a bypass valve
So could you in theory pick any car at that place to restore? Mate
nightmare...!
Sadly not a tomcat as that is the turbo.
You and car throttle do the same thing buy and repair
This is not a 220, 220 was Turbo, this is 216 that was not 2000 cc, but 1600

Not all 220's were turbo, actually the n/a 220 coupe was much more common than the turbo, feel free to do a reg check 👍
keV tee why don't you borrow the recovery truck and take the rover car to your house and use your foam shampoo on the car and then wash it with your sponge and water then park it up at your house l am positive Trent's won't mind
Could be a money pit ???
Join the Rover Coupe Owners Club.
Want to sell it
above all its a rover
I’m sure you’ve got onto the Rover owners club Kev, I hope you saved this classic. Despite the ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude of Rover’s “workforce” back in the day I think it’s survival has a lot to do with the one owner. I’m amazed the underside wasn’t a patchwork of ugly welding MOT saves 🙄.Any updates Kev? or do you have another channel?
