He was born into a strict religious household but he's gay, so when he fully embraced who he was he knew his parents would disapprove of his lifestyle so "mama, just killed a man " was him killing his self, or the person his parents thought he was. Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975 on their 4th studio album A Night at the Opera. They first debuted Bohemian Rhapsody in full during the tour for their fifth album A Day at the Races. To make it fit for live performances, they cut out the intro section because that section is just Freddie Mercury (Piano and vocals) multitracking himself. So in live performances, they start with the ballad section and perform that live. After Brian May’s guitar solo, the band goes offstage and the original recorded track is played during the operatic section since there’s no way four people could sing all those parts live. After the operatic section, the band comes back on stage for the rock section and ending section which are both sung live. During the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, Queen performed it with Elton John and Axl Rose. Elton John sang the ballad section, the band went offstage for the operatic section, Axl Rose sang the rock section and then Elton John and Axl Rose both sang the ending section. During the early Queen+ Paul Rodgers tour, Freddie’s vocals from the 1986 Wembley Stadium Concert were on tape for the ballad section, Queen went offstage for the operatic section, Paul Rodgers sang the rock section and during the ending section, it switched between Freddie’s album vocals and Paul’s live vocals. During the later Queen+ Paul Rodgers Tour, Freddie’s vocals from the 1981 Montreal concert were on tape for the ballad section, Queen went offstage for the operatic section, Paul Rodgers sang the rock section live and during the ending section, it switched between Freddie’s Montreal vocals and Paul’s live vocals. Now with Queen + Adam Lambert, Adam sings the first verse of the ballad section while Freddie’s 1981 Montreal vocals were on tape for verse two. Then Queen goes offstage for the operatic section, Adam sings the rock section live and the ending section switches between Freddie’s 1981 Montreal vocals and Adam’s live vocals.

Incorrect! The operatic portion was never performed live! The reason for that is that it was manipulated and layered. Auto-tune existed, and it was used. I am a HUGE Freddie Mercury fan, and I am not talking smack. It is a pervasive lie that you're only good if you don't use auto-tune. *Edit: They don't even try to lie about it. When they're not performing they're not on stage.

The name of the song is pronounced Bo He-Me-Ann Rhapsody. The bands name is Queen. Freddie Mercury is the lead singer. Regarded as one of the greatest lead singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. When they first tried to release the Rock-Opera song in 1975 they were told it was too long to be played on the radio. However fans of the song insisted it be played as performed and the radio stations gave in and agreed to play the song in its entirety. The meaning of the song as stated by the writer, Freddie is up to the listener and as result there are many theories about its meaning.

Lynn Hoffman While it’s true that the music executives felt that it was too long and the band insisted it be played in its entirety. It was the devious work of British DJ Kenny Everett who was given the full song on a reel to reel and proceeded to play small snippets of the song followed by playing the entire song multiple times over 2 days that caught the attention of the listeners. When throngs of fans tried to buy the song after hearing the full version they were told that the song had not been released. At the same time the entire song from a copy of that reel to reel was played to US listeners to rave reviews thus forcing the hand of the music exec’s to release the song as written by Freddie. While it’s one thing for a band to insist on how a song is to be released, it’s another matter when the buying public only wants the full song. Money talks

The meaning behind "Mama, just killed a man, put a gun against his head pulled my trigger now he's dead" has never fully been told by Freddie himself but his biographer spoke to the drummer and asked him about the meaning. He said he believes its like he's writing a letter that he killed his past self and became a new person, coming out as bisexual. “Mama” may refer to Freddie Mercury’s former partner Mary Austin, with whom he lived for about seven years. Freddie started work on “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 1972 but really got to finishing it in 1975, the same year he started his first love affair with a man. These lines may be telling Mary that he didn’t mean to hurt her, and that she should carry on with life even if he ends up leaving her; continuing the dispirited, fatalistic theme which resonates throughout the song, with lines like “Any way the wind blows” and “Nothing really matters.”

Close to 30 years after the man who wrote and performed this song died, which also was the end of the band. Hell, most of the people in the audience weren't even born when Freddie died. Brian May the guy with the dark curly hair playing the bass is a PhD in radio physics. He still performs even though his locks are now white. He's about 75 now.

The closest vocal talent has had years longer than Freddie to develop their skill. No one can imagine what beautiful vocals Freddie would've recorded if he didn't pass away and his career continued for another decade or 2.

I know this is an older reaction but it popped up cause I’m a Queen fan. I was about 8 or 9 when the neighbor boy who I had a crush on cause he was like 13 lol put an old school set of headphones on my ear and says “ listen to this!” It was this song and from that moment on I was a Queen fan.
