3 slow songs, with a title track that is slow at parts as well, and a hideous unnecessary remix in a mini album was bound to be meh from the start. What were they thinking, these songs are good no doubt, but that's about it, just these songs with an average title track won't cut it. Had it been a full album with other upbeat songs, it would have made for a more versatile album, and also easier for the people to handle this new direction for the group. I know they have more songs, they release a predebut song every album. But regardless my girls are back so best believe I am going to get turnt up on the album. Teddy needs some rest to be very honest.

I'm actually not so sure about that. I mean, it doesn't exactly sound like their other songs, but Hope not for example gives me strong Stay vibes, especially with the "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah". It has kind of a county feeling tbh., and Kick it reminds me of Forever Young...sadly not the good part, though. I do think it's an overall improvement, but they really just need to get out of the YG dungeon.

@@romieonfilm I don't think you got what I was trying to say at all. I was indicating that it actually does kind of sound like the typical Black Pink sound. That's why I was comparing these songs to some of Blackpinks earlier music and it makes perfect sense if you think about it. Pretty much all of Blackpinks music, including this mini album has been produced by Teddy, so of course it will sound kind of similar.

anthony too I personally think it does. Do I think the songs themselves could’ve been arranged a little better ? Yea definitely. I wasnt feeling the chanting chorus parts in some of them, etc. but rosé really got to shine in this album as main vocal with her high notes and range. So did jisoo. And as much as I like rap, i really appreciated that there was a lack of rap, and that Jennie and Lisa got to show that they can be on the same level as the vocal line when given the chance. Do I think is album is better than Square Up? No, I personally don’t, but I really really liked that they got to express their talents here. At the end of the day it all just depends on your own personal music taste

you’re right, rosé is from australia! and jennie is from new zealand. my favorite b-side is dont know what to do for sure (or is it a sub-title track? i’m not sure lol) but i think my favorite will change a few times cuz i love all of them so much. like lisa’s all english rap in kick it (i think that’s the song, fml if i’m wrong lol). i love that lisa sings in DKWTD and they all sound amazing on this track. the other songs are amazing too, i really like this ep. in the last song, drums for the last chorus would’ve been so much better. cam, another youtuber i think you know abt him, said it should’ve been like the last chorus on the truth untold by bts where the vocals went all out and the instrumental got all powerful and it was just amazing. i agree with you, i wish they had this kind of singing in the title track. i love the singing in LKTL but i kinda wanted more if that makes sense. as for the DDDD remix, i’m not sure how i feel about it so i can’t really say anything lmao. with the formula thing, the order of the beginning of their songs, i think it has happened before but it’s very obvious in this era. i don’t have a problem with it but i wonder if there’s a reason most of their songs are like that?

I just don’t get why other ppl doesn’t like this album :/ the Lyrics are so good n relatable n they were able to show off more of their Vocal ability in this album. I mean even my Bias n Jennie (the rappers) can sing. I just don’t get why some of y’all are expecting a really “hard” production in every song of Blackpink. It’s not like they’re gonna stick with that kind of Genre the whole time of their career. But then again, everybody has different tastes in music so I really don’t have the right to contradict with ur opinions.

This is a much more emotional album than previous have been, but it's still so amazingly good. 💖💖💖💖 The albums feel like a good progression to me, with the early ones having a very optimistic almost naive vibe, very youthful, and very upbeat, then came the girl power, on top of the world phase, and now we're at a more mature, emotional phase with "Kick It" and "Kill This Love" feeling like the a bad relationship coming to an end and "Don't Know What To Do" and "Hope Not" feeling like the grieving and beginning of recovery afterward. I feel like "Kick It" is the point where they realize a relationship isn't working because their partner is controlling or such and they're saying "hey, you can't control me, I'm my own person", " Kill This Love" is the end of the relationship and the breakup, probably with advice from friends, with "we've got to kill this love, it's sad but true. We've got to kill this love before it kills you, too". " Don't know what to do is the grieving after, the realization that you're alone fully hitting you, trying to figure out how to rebuild yourself without this person you loved in your life. "Hope Not" feels like the later stages of grief to me, wondering if you were right in ending things, wondering if being with the person you loved might be been worth the pain involved, but ultimately accepting that you really weren't right for each other and hoping they find happiness anyway, even if it's not with you. My favorite song is "Hope Not". It's such a beautiful song and a drastic departure from BLACKPINK's previous work, but not every song needs to be upbeat, not every song needs a buildup and a drop. Sometimes you just need an amazing ballad, and I absolutely love it and this album. As for the remix, it's a remix. Remixes don't generally add much, just change things, and that's what this one did, changing the whole feel of the song to a much more dance-y/club kind of vibe. I was a bit disappointed it dropped the end bit on first listen, but after a few listens I can see how it wouldn't really fit into the feel of the remix as well as it did the original. I feel like a lot of the people disappointed by this album were really expecting and hoping for more of the same upbeat, super hype style that BLACKPINK has done quite a bit in the past. I really think people will appreciate it more once they've given it a few listens and given time for the initial shock of the departure from form from their more recent work that this is to wear off and start to see the songs more for themselves and less for what they're not. I'd love to see a full length album as much as everyone else, and I'm hoping this album paves the way for future albums to have a much wider range to them, with room for upbeat songs like "Forever Young" and "As If It's Your Last", badass songs like "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "Kill This Love", and ballads like "Stay" and "Hope Not."

It's the selections and choices from the company that they made...after making us wait how long and it's ANOTHER EP and one of the tracks is literally a remix... Basically, please stop acting like you're the House of Stark and anyone with some criticism is the House of Lannisters.

They definitely need a new producer. I honestly feel like Teddy is getting a bit bored with creating such repetative songs. Also the fact that he's their only producer is why they barely release any music. The man can only do so much.

Teddy created almost ALL their songs from square 1 up to KTL and all of that was a bop and successful. WHO ARE YOU to disrespect Teddy by saying BP needs a new producer when it's all Teddy's doings that made blackpink this successful? Y'all complain that bp only focuses on heavy drops and raps but now that they have an album which focuses on their vocalis ya'll still complaining. SMH

I get your point tho that the arrangements of the songs can be improved but hey it's Teddy. Nobody knows what's going on on that genius's mind. Atleast bp didn't follow the same formula that MOST kpop groups have rn. It's refreshing and creative at the same time.

@@teddythegodproducermaid4374 Im not complaining about Teddy. I agree that he's made great music for Blackpink but my point is, is that there is only so much creativity he has. Of course he should coninue to write them songs, but yg needs another producer that will 1, make more songs so the girls have more than 4 an album and 2, bring something new to the table. Honestly theyre such a diverse group that there is many genres they could be doing, but Teddy only knows how to do so much.

never thought i would say this but square up was better, and you know what I noticed? blackpink is kinda like a blockbuster group, that's the best description for them! they're super popular, they're cute, they're talented and they can entertain us but that's all! they release a catchy single and an "album" full of fillers (like most groups do, but since they're popular they're the best example of it lol). you can bop to their songs and all but like... there's something missing? they're not musically interesting? it's sad because that's how most companies sell their girlgroups except for sm, red velvet, f(x), snsd all of them have amazing albums, most of them with no skips! and another gg with an amazing discography is wonder girls, reboot is in the top 3 best kpop albums of all time, easily! you should keep an eye on loona too because their bsides are incredible. btw, ktl is better than d4 in my opinion 🙃

I think there is a lot of really amicable discourse happening in this comments section and I’m really happy about that. I love the album! I think it’s refreshing and different but I totally understand where a lot of you are coming from. It’s hard to satisfy everyone’s preferences in the first place, and I think they could switch up producers soon, too. The arrangements could be better, but the vocals by all four saved it and honestly I love it. The songs are catchy. I think the hardest part is the lack of a full album! If we had more songs we could get more vocal-centric songs, harder songs with a beat drop, some rap heavy music, slow songs, etc. we just need more! We wouldn’t feel so deprived then and keep hoping for something else from the 3-4 songs that we get

It didn't work out 🙃🙃 We could have literally gotten a new song fr! I feel so disappointed 😭😭 YG is not doing his job right, he is not giving the girls what they deserve 😔 overall, I do like DKWTD and Kick it, their vocals shining I love it! Hope not is a good song too, but it is not my cup of tea! I hope we get a full album by the end of this year bro 🤧 Anyways stan blackpink, keep streaming kill this love y'all 🔥

I don't know how to express this, but I think what they need to do, is like give sentimental or any kind of emotion, like obviously they got some but It isn't transmiting in a correct way, I think if they could move people with their songs, they will be musically better. I know their fans will argue about this, but it's true. They get so much hate for their music and there must me a reason for it, they need to improve musically. Hope the best for them.
