I've been in KL for 7 days now and it is great. Check out Petronas Towers, we don't have anything like it in the U.S. The food is good, spicy and diverse. Malaysian, Chinese, Western and Japanese and some Latin. The folks are friendly and I get eye contact.

We Malaysians have experienced some negative situations with people of deep color from Africa especially from Nigeria. They came on student visa mostly, rent apartments and live amongst themselves which have had bad reputation such as drunk, drug abuse, scheming and cheating, criminal activities and brought much miseries to the locals. Mostly clashes of cultural values between them and locals. Ofcos it is not fair to accuse all of them behaving as such but the stigma of “black” people of being bad runs deep into the pyche of locals. We are not racist but avoid direct interaction if we do not know them because they are bigger in size and surely they have the upper hand if fists fight ever to happen. So, you are a man of the same “color” might receive a lukewarm welcome from locals. They are not racist but simply uncertain of your behavior due to those negative images inflicted upon their community here in Malaysia. Unfortunately you could be brushed on that negative connotation. We apologies if somehow you’d offended by that but please get to know us Malaysians. We are very hospitable once that barrier broken off.

I think now is getting better and we seldom hear 'love scam' and 'nigerian prince scam' nowadays after its peak in early 2000 which give bad reputation to african people. The african reputation is getting better now, i think. Anyway, that is water under the bridge and hope the 'nigerian prince scam' is now gone 😂😂😂

Yes, Thailanders also see Africans in the same light. Unfortunately, if one does something good, they are seen as an individual, but if one does something bad, they are seen as a collective. That seems to be the world view on blacks (us) in general, African or other.

Went to Kuala Lumpur in 2019 and really enjoyed it there. It's definitely underrated and more upscale than people realize. I'm in a debate right now on whether to head back there or Thailand for my November trip later this year.
